Yep, a friend of mine in the US was actually messaging me about how she encountered a guy being taken from his car by ICE yesterday. This was prior to the shooting and she found it incredibly upsetting. Post shooting, it's hitting differently for both of us.

Also just to reiterate, any minority group will feel threatened by ICE. In this case, it was a bisexual woman. If she had anything like a rainbow flag on the car, I can't imagine ICE not behaving inappropriately. At least there's some degree of standards with the police but ICE are a pretty unknown quantity.

It would need one hell of a virus removal programme as well.

Precisely. He pulled his gun out for zero reason, she was no threat whatsoever. If anything, it could be argued the other officer storming out of his car shouting at the woman and attempting to open the door is culpable for needlessly raising the temperature of the situation.

The idea that there’s precedent here that suggests he shouldn’t face justice is total fiction. If these were police officers they would be certain to face justice as there is so much wrong with what happened, not just that he was briefly standing in front of the car.

-She wasn’t a target of law enforcement. She was a citizen expressing her right to observe ICE. She wasn’t blocking the road as the video shows one car going around her before she was shot.

-An actual law enforcement officer would be trained to de escalate. If he wanted her to move her car, he would tell her calmly what they need her to do, and what will happen if she doesn’t comply. He doesn’t go near the person trying to grab them or scream aggressively - that would be a serious breach of protocol.

-And for the shooter, obviously someone properly trained doesn’t stand in front of the car, and certainly doesn’t reach for their weapon that quickly. Anyone who fires a shot will be spending significant time in interviews, doing statements and potentially in court to justify their actions. Also - leaving the scene of the shooting is unheard of.

I’m not saying that the cops over there are perfect, far from it. But any attempt to justify the murder if this poor woman by suggesting the guy was legally justified because he was in front of the car briefly is completely pathetic and massively downplays the severity of what actually happened.

They were advertising for rapid recruitment recently enough - lord knows what headbangers are being employed - the skills involved in this role have nothing to do with policing - it’s essentially broad daylight kidnapping - so pretty much any American born thug has the natural qualifications for the job- I’d doubt they have a section on maintaining the publics trust and respect on the 1 day induction course no less inclusion and diversity.

    @Manic Moran

    The one quote I always come back to is from Obama;

"Imagine if I had done any of this. Let me just - I just want to be clear about this. Imagine if I had pulled Fox News's credentials from the White House press corps. You're laughing, but know that this is what's happening. It's unimaginable that the same parties that are silent now would have tolerated behavior like that for me, or a whole bunch of my predecessors."

To expand on on that with an extremely short list..

    Imagine if any democrat president;

    1. Accepted a $400 million USD boeing from the Qatari's, which will cost the taxpayers billions for it to be repurposed as an Air Force One backup, in exchange for allowing a Qatari military base to be commissioned within the USA.

    2. Launched their own cryptocurrency, allowing millionaires funnel money to buy influence directly from the President.

    3. A presidents family member launched a elite private members club. Charging $500k joining fee which offers access to cabinet members and top administration advisors.

    4. Blantantly acted as a salesman on the south lawn of the white house, breaking multiple laws.

    5. Mass firing of Inspector Generals without the legally required 30-day notice to Congress, removing internal checks on executive power.

    6. Pardoned an Crypto exchange CEO who was convicted in court of money laundering, and he denied knowing Zhao is. Autopen much?

    7. Pardoned former Honduran President Juan Orlando Hernández, a convicted drug trafficker, sentenced to a 45-year prison sentence after being convicted for using his position to smuggle 400 tons of cocaine into the U.S. in 2024.

    8. Cozied up to Putin as the expense of NATO allies.

    9. Threated to stop, and actually stop federal funding to Republican states only.

(hypothetical) 10. Issued an Executive Order creates a task force to wipe the internet of content deemed harmful to public health or democratic integrity (anti-vaccine rhetoric or challenges to election results).

    11. Weaponised the DOJ to target political opponents, enemies, and those deemed disloyal, of critical of the president.

    12. Wanted foreigners to disclose social media handles on visa applications so that the government can analyse posts, and prevent entry because of content deemed critical of the current US president.

I could probably write 50-75 such examples for the 1st year of his 2nd term ALONE.

How on earth anybody can defend this thug, pedophile, rapist, gangster, sociopath, narcissist, and 34 count convicted felon is simply mind boggling.

South Park did a good parody of them last season, including Noem's obsession for shooting dogs.

Going back to the current event. An ICE agent walked from the open car on the right across the front of the victim's car (as we look at the rear of the victim's car) and to the left of it. If she had wanted to attack the ice agent she could have just driven right into him, but she didn't, she reversed so she could turn her wheels away from him and get through the narrow gap between the car on the right and the agents on the left. I don't think she touched the shooter, he did not lose his balance or stagger before he shot her. He could very easily have taken a step back if he thought he was in danger, but he didn't he concentrated on shooting her through the windscreen and the window.

this shooting will serve as a distraction from the seizure of tankers, which was a distraction from the kidnapping of maduro, which was a distraction from the non release of the Epstein files.

As said many times here and in the media, parody of Trump and this institution just doesn’t work any more - watching them live, in action, daily on our screens, is more entertainment than what could be dreamt up by great comic script writers- unfortunately it’s all real, not imaginary - very hard to laugh at it these days given the consequences and impact on the world

BUT when it came to when and HOW the US was going to kidnap Munduro the US spent months drawing up EVERY DETAIL of the plan - involving hundreds of soldiers , ships , helicopters, etc, etc, etc. this detail included tracking Munduro and wife months.

But when it comes to what happens after the kidnap , WELL !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!?????????
As Marco Rubio said ‘ the guy was arrested only 4 days ago and this kind of planning takes time’ . !!!!

A question I’ve asked more than once - where are the Democrats?
Very silent- very passive - not just the politicians, the voters too.
I would have thought given ICE’s behaviour, no less Trumps, there would be riots in the streets. I’m not advocating riots- but large scale lawful protests involving 10s of millions should be the starting point

I think that the Black and Tans were British soldiers that had served overseas - so they had training, field experience in very alien territory and were battle hardened. I stand to be corrected

Lawful protests would just be shooting fishing in a barrel for ICE agents. Utter insanity.

They're Trump's version of the Sturmabteilung.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,615 ✭✭✭fergiesfolly

They're biding their time to see how this plays out. Their social media warriors and friendly news and entertainment outlets will let rip, but they'll hold their tongue for now bar one or two outspoken politicians ie Raskin, Sanders, AOC.

If the USA public can live with owning Venezuela and benefitting from oil sales, the Democrats will keep it going once they get back into power.

If when the uproar about that woman's murder in Minnesota dies down and the public accept ICE, the Democrats will keep that going too.

Because at the end of the day, most politicians in the US are cut from the same cloth..stay in power and keep as many people as happy as I need to, to stay in power.

I'd love it to be different, but that country is just a cesspit and that's not changing soon.

Someone above said unplug it and plug it back in again. I agree with half of that....

Absolutely, apart from the fact that the democratic party is partly responsible for having trump elected by failing to put a credible candidate forward they are simply leaderless and weak at present. Trump and his proud boys(ICE) are doing as they please. As for Europe they also are simply cowering in front of the monster trump.

In terms of Europe, I was just thinking this morning, if Boris Johnson was leading UK, he’d probably be in agreement with a lot of what Trump is doing- we’re stuck with the Hobsons choice of right wing EUR governments sucking up to Trump or left of centre ineffective government or burying their heads in the sand

Immediately after the shooting, the first thing the ICE thug who was trying to open her door does is bail and make sure his ski mask is up as high as possible so that he doesn't get identified.

F*ck America at this stage and f*ck anyone who supports or defends this administration

Lived there for 5 years in the 00s before moving back to Ireland. At the time I wasn't sure if it was the right move but looking at it now it's one of the best decisions I've ever made. I would genuinely hate to live in the place now.

I had no idea the thread's resident G.I. Joe is actually Irish. All I'll say is, America is welome to him.

I've been following these Trump threads for years and I've occasionally contributed.

Over the past few months I've read the thread, felt that things were at rock bottom and feel despair for the honest people that are suffering through all of this in the States. I've always thought, "Surely things can't get any worse than this?" And week by week they do.

But honestly, how can their country sink any lower than this? My heart breaks for anyone innocently affected by what's happening over there and I've no idea how it can be addressed.

This excuse again. The Democrats put up a competent administrator while the Republicans put up the best friend of the most famous child sex trafficker in history. Americans made their choice.

Nationwide mass civil protest and unrest is not sustainable. People need to work and live. There are a lot of localised protests happening around the country but it doesn't reach MSM or make headlines all the time.

"Flood the zone", works in the sense that it turns shock into exhaustion for prospectice voters.

Some democrats are speaking out all the time but the party is leaderless. Those trying to grab power within the democratic party(Jeffries) are not the best on offer. AOC, Mark Kelly, Spanberger, should be leadership imo

At this point, the future is bleak.

The US administration is maniacal, insane.

What happens if and when Democrats win an election, if that is possible/ will be allowed?

Will it be another 'steal' that must be stopped?

Even the premise of the 'Civil War' film seems plausible at this point.

Will the right decide that they then have a tyrannical government and decide that is the right time to 'exercise' their 'rights' to shooting and bloody mayhem? They seem very happy with the current government, which is not tyrannical at all, no siree.

Was thinking about this scene in that film: 'what kind of American are you'?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 44,376 ✭✭✭✭ancapailldorcha

Americans have been voting for this for a very long time. The Republican party's goal is to eradicate the values of the Enlightenment while creating a dominant upper caste which is above the law. It will say and do anything to realise this objective. Trump is just a more honest version of what the GOP is.

As for sinking lower, history provides ample examples of where totalitarianism leads. ICE have gotten away with this so they'll just feel emboldened in future. Americans just seem to be completely supine before an administration that is actively hostile to them. At the very least, I think NATO is doomed and worldwide recession is a certainty if Trump moves on Greenland.

    This crap again.

The Dems lost, that doesn't make them responsible. If you want to blame anyone for this mess, it's those who empowered Trump in the first place. They are a bunch of cowards.
