Friday Jan 2nd onward, very cold with snow potential: Event buildup/discussion

Cheers Kermit. You got a whole load of shite for setting this up from the get go, accused of ramping etc and claims not a single flake below 250/300m in Ulster would fall and there was no need for the thread.

In fairness you’re opening post states warning level most likely is yellow and most likely area NW. Main risk elsewhere cold. Which is how it panned out and a yellow snow warning is hardly a ramp to begin with.

It’s a pity this spell wasn’t more extensive, the pattern shifted further east, we had higher pressure and not as unstable as it once looked. IMBY a sugar coating Friday morning which melted, a dusting Saturday morning and snow on ground since then which grew overtime in to a thick blanket yesterday evening. Expect a slow thaw over the next few days. I hope the next spell is an easterly.

ok there is something building towards N Dublin.

Some hi res models did have some precip getting towards Dublin for tonight. That area straddling the east coast currently is a little too far north for me (just inside the M50, D9). Looks mixed at best anyway, less cold air has been taking over above us since this evening.

I am well aware what was on the way and highlighted the situation here before in relation to the build of snow over a 2 day period , its the simple fact if this kind of weather happened anywhere else across the country it would be all over the news and warnings would of been much higher. Met Eireann issue warnings based on thresholds and impacts. Lucky enough people in Donegal know how to deal with this weather than other parts of the country because we get it nearly every year.

No precipitation of any sort seems to have fallen.

Thanks Kermit . Still not convinced on Thursday Friday though snow chances are remote. Milder weather seeping in then with short colder reloads. Might see more wintriness as month goes on.
