Careful on any concrete paths out there tonight and in the mornjng. I can feel some frost underfoot and see glints of ice after being outside just now. It’s fine at ny location in north Clare at the moment but it’s freezing hard and there’s more moisture in the air than last night so things will get worse as the night goes on.

Is there a school not opening tomorrow!? lol compo culture have a tip/crash heading to school, I know we'll put a claim in against the school. I remember back in the day we would 'slide' to school….and with any luck the teacher would let us head out to the hall and dry up against the BIG old radiator.

What was the loest temp recorded during the past week at a Met Eireann station?

For weather conditions like the current this is nothing we certainly didn't get a day of school for frost or a bit of frozen slush in Cork. We got days off school if there was proper snow or a dry cold spell where it was ice days for days on end and the pipes froze.

Heavy snow just north of Castlebar heading South so expect a few pics of snowy West tomorrow.

Just went out onto the driveway and did well to keep my balance. A lot of frozen slush basically. The morning will be messy alright.

Between the snow and the thought of going back tomorrow there'll be very little sleep tonight.

South Mayo after that heavy snow shower

Looks like that shower that made it over Galway City around 2am was my closest chance of a dusting, nothing but hard frost here. Have to do a run into Galway shortly so will see if it delivered.

Light dusting that has turned the paths in Galway city white, Motorway does not appear to have been gritted, yet, inside lane is fine, passing lane is white in patches.

GFS track for Thursday appears to have shifted south about 50-100 miles which would put the (still hypothetical) snowfall across the inland south (5-10 cm indicated), tapering down to 2-5 cm midlands. Meanwhile GEM has shifted slightly north although still around 200 miles south of GFS track. As it's early morning I will probably post an edited version to comment on ECM due in soon. I have a hunch the solution may be a further compromise to a south coast track for this low (almost where GFS has it now). Met seem to be dismissing chance of this altogether with only rain in forecast. I don't feel like the balance between mild and cold is going to change that much before this event sets in but all solutions are possible.

(later edit) ECM is still further south, the low enters France so only the northern extent of its precip shield over-runs south coast. I think this is going to take a day to resolve. No telling which model has the best track at this point.

Dusting of snow here in rural west Galway. Roads are ok (better than yesterday) but the compacted snow will make them progressively worse. -2C

    Remember the poor birds.

roads fairly lethal this morning if the radio is anything to go by in Cork, take it easy if driving! Some cars absolutely flying down the hill outside my house.

Cold fresh morning in North Dublin. Clear skies. Beautiful. And trains on time. All good.

The bullsh1t radio presenters spout is amazing. They literally will repeat any crap some eejit sends in on text without any form of moderation. Local radio in particular is riddled with such rubbish.

Basic common sense will tell you that local roads will be icy as gritting concentrates on main routes. But some types of people almost expect gritting to be done right up to their driveway and they whine to local radio about "the council" because they have the inability to use a very basic level of common sense.

Its icy. Temps will be near freezing all day. If you have to drive and are on local untreated roads, drive slowly. Simple

usually agree but unfortunately, the roads are lethal this morning around here. No real whining about “the council” just black ice reports to help others out on their way to work. Thank you

    Likewise here.

Fully get why posters don’t want to get a blow by blow on Cork traffic issues but, in answer to a few criticisms, just to say that as someone who has lived in Dublin and Galway, and knows Limerick, what differentiates Cork from those cities in black ice conditions is that Cork is infinitely hillier so there are far more consequences in terms of bus cancellations, crashes and falls. The whole metropolitan area is really one big, high valley surrounding the Lee and harbour.

Anyway, back to the actual weather and agree Thursday is interesting with the lack of model consensus on the track of the low.
