Crowd didn't help , the silence was shocking.

Extremely disappointing game again today . I miss seeing genuinely intensity and pace in our attacks . I really don’t enjoy watching us the Moment .

Very strange season so far. Only 2 teams in top 10 won this round of games, Arsenal and Everton. Everything seems to going Arsenals way at the moment be in that crazy run of OGs that kept them top , results elsewhere etc, set pieces of course which is our bane. We are keeping clean sheet now but we are still giving very good chances . A DCL leg away from losing 0-1 tonight.

I think Slot have 3 different RBs In15mins between Bradley , Frimpong and Szobo. Chucking on attackers that having little to no impact or coherent strategy. Fulham and Arsenal away next I have to say I worry about . I really losing faith in Slots ability to turn us back to title contenders .

when you compare that to the Sunderland match there place was rocking

So a lot of people seem to be accepting that Slot is gone at the end of the season. If that's the case then why wait? The results are going to get worse as the teams we play get better. Performances are stagnant at a low level. We could lose champions league. We are not likely to challenge for it this year either playing like this.

Surely we should sack him now and try and salvage something. Who would benefit from just waiting until the end of the year? The club certainly wouldn't

From the eye test we are terrible but as we know Edwards/Hughes use statistics. We can only guess what the stats/models are showing, beyond stuff like today's that we had 1 shot on target in 2nd half playing towards the Kop, and that was Szob from outside the box.

Maybe lots of numbers are down, or up, but it's because of new players, new system, Jota, injuries whatever it is. They are happy to explain them away. But there could come a point where the stats are really poor and it will point to poor coach performance and Slot will get the boot.

From what we know, their history, the Ian Graham book etc Edwards/Hughes are ruthless, if Slot's stats dip below a certain amount for a prolonged period he will be gone. Who knows the decision could already have been made and they will start sounding out replacements between now and June.

That "is" the narrative because that's how the structure works and that's what Slot has confirmed. If you think any manager, especially a PL winning first season manager, just rolls over and accepts whatever team changes and new players Hughes and Edwards force upon him then you're buying into a lot of conspiracy story rubbish.

It's hard to love the style of football Slot is currently playing but IMHO he's earned the right to find a way through this season where there's been a lot of challenges not least related to Isak and Salah. If he gets top 4 he dserves to have another crack next season when new player integration, a fit Isak and Salah's future are no longer hanging over the club.

If with a fully fit and integrated squad Slot doesn't get a PL challenging tune out of them then, and only then, should FSG consider looking for a replacement but even then we need to be very careful not to become Man Utd V2 constantly moving managers in and out through revolving doors.

His job is to take risks. Didnt work out for him today for sure, but sounds like you’d prefer him to pass it back each time to get 100% pass success rate

Anyone who judges players on pass success rate hasnt a notion.

We didnt create a whole lot today, but in hindisght, were more likely to create when Wirtz was on the pitch. His partnership with Eki and Isak is only beginning. We’ll have 4 - 6 years of that trio causing chaos in opposition defences, all under the supervision of league title winning manager Arne Slot.

I don’t know if you can say it’s an anomaly. We played well rode our luck and some other teams had their own issues.

I think slot cannot risk the pressing as the players don’t have the legs and he is worried about injuries

That is in my top 10 of worst games of football I've seen.

there are no good managers available and any that would joint would take time to implement their plan.

There were rumours that they might go for nanglesmann when he leaves the German job.

barring a complete disaster, he is here till the summer.

reactionary managerial sackings are not a good thing so they probably won’t sack him

There are 2 sides to the game though..

We're terrible on the ball as has been said, but we're also terrible without the ball - there is no organized press, no intensity to our game, no shape to what we're at. We're so easy to play against, Leeds played through us at times today and were so comfortable, we put zero pressure on them.

I'm not personalizing it on Slot, but this to me points to poor coaching. Him and his backroom coaching team are not producing and IMHO they are on borrowed time; the team is getting worse by the week and has been since Easter.

Snap, gave mine away after winning a pair last month. Made someones day by giving them to an older fan who couldn't afford to pay match day prices. He couldn't say no to free, though he may have cursed me afterwards.

I'm not getting into sackings or not but this is absolutely woeful stuff.

    Our identity is lost.

Next few games could be dodge. Arsenal are going to really put the boot in.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,084 ✭✭✭✭McDermotX

Fully expect us to turn Arsenal over.

Cliche, but I'd be worrying about the next game.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,442 ✭✭✭shamrock55

The crowd can only respond to whats going on infront of them though tbf.

The team should count themselves lucky that the place wasn't empty with 20 mins to go

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,535 ✭✭✭brevity

I was watching the first 5 minutes of the anfield wrap’s post match pint and they said it was a typical New Year’s Day crowd.

If the football isn’t very entertaining then the crowd are probably going to be quiet. That’s another thing for Slot to worry about as if he loses the crowd and the results/performances are **** then he’s not gonna last long

Joel Ordóñez looks to be on the way. CB from Ecuador.

    That was awful stuff today.

Wirtz who I thought would kick on today, was very poor.

Szoboszlai was average. Frimpong was decent first half, got into some good positions and had the beating of his man.

It's all very slow and predictable though. Not much energy and it's not exciting to watch from the stands. Chalk and cheese from the Klopp football which was exciting. This is fairly dour. If the results were good it would be tolerable at least.

Teams know how to play against us and Slot nerds to change it up quick. There's a lot of talent in our squad and they look a bit lost in this set up.

On my way home, poor enough performance. Frimpong and Hugo the only real bright sparks, needed to use Frimpong more but didn’t.

How has he played in the CL this season? It's good to get someone in at CB, badly stuck there at the moment.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 88 ✭✭GreatScott2024

I also think Leeds never gave him a minute when on the ball as they knew he was our only threat.

Klopp football was at times absolutely **** dreadful

Remember the winter after we won the league..

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,796 ✭✭✭✭Fitz*

The winter after we won the league when every senior CB in the squad was out with a season ending injury, playing the main CMs at CB, and the new high profile creative midfielder also missing with a long injury?

Yes I remember it. It was bang in the middle of COVID lockdowns, with no fans at games. We were in 1st position on Christmas Day and finished 3rd that season overall.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 428 ✭✭redoctober

The winning part of course was good. But i think older Liverpool fans have been around the block. We've seen lots of managers come and go. So the fact slot won it without changing much was great but you'd need to see his own team and how he wants to set it up. Last season looked like slot tweaking klopp's team. And to be honest a lot of the games weren't that exciting if you look back but the results were good. Admittedly there was a high bar coming from klopp's style (which yielded some of the best football we've seen).

This season we've seen a lot of change and to be fair to slot that would take time to gel. I think the concerning thing for many fans is the manner of play which has generally been awful. If he was a new manager who had just come in we'd be saying this guy hasn't got it. But he has time rightly because of the title last season which was built on klopp's team.

And we will come minimum of fourth this season

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,069 ✭✭✭✭noodler

I'm not sure about that at all given our performances to-date.

Next two games could easily be lost.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,530 ✭✭✭jones

I really don't know where this optimism is coming from that we'll come 4th. On form we are no where near the 4th best team in the league this season.

Something is very broken at Liverpool and has been for a long time now. I can't work out if those who think we'll "come top 4" or even worse saying just write this season off altogether as we won it last season (wtf?) are too blinkered to see the decline or wums.

We're a shadow of the team we were and each week that goes by Slots stock is falling for me. The coaching has been non existent as far as I can see and that lands separately on Slot.

Gavin Cooney said in October/November that Liverpool look the worst coached team in the league and I think he was and still is right.

It is disingenuous to reference the drop Klopp had after winning the title to this drop off.

That squad was playing well until one by one every CB got a long term injury , we then emptied the midfield into centre back to try deal with this and it meant there was no rotation from the intense football we expected from our midfield.

That team had done three near perfect seasons to finally win a league and the squad was exhausted and depleted.

This team has one notable possible starter injured but has stunk the gaf out of it football wise for months.

We took a team that scored 2+ goals every home game to one that can barely manage one goal at home.

Took a team whos aggression in attack fed the crowd , who in turn fed the team back to create a cauldron at Anfield , now its just a lot of bored and frustrated punters.

I knew when Klopp got some CB's fit we would return to our best , I have no idea if this team under this managers direction can become that force again .

We're currently in 4th, and on the form table we are actually the 4th best team too (Leeds are 5th actually) so it is a reasonable expectation to continue that through to the end of the season unless we have another total collapse.

I think if he is able to maintain that position the club management will allow him to stay in place, and I imagine there are major financial penalties if they sacked him from fourth. Essentially it is all about getting in to those champions league places, and they would pretty much have to pay off his full contract imo, which they will be hesitant to do.

Something had certainly switched in the team, personally I think it was the lazy end to last season, with the players taking holiday's etc. and dropping out of that winning mindset and rhythm.
