I'm much less of a news junkie that I used to be. Also worth bearing in mind that there are a lot of people dying and suffering in conflicts around the globe, most of which don't garner 1% of the attention Israel/Iran/Palestine gets.

There's no obsession at all, however their hypocrisy is continually worth highlighting. Of course there's a 'West' - did you watch the NATO summit - Rutte, a clown at the best of times turned into a moronic fool blowing smoke up Trump's backside. Trump , when it comes to Israel or US interests is fundamentally no different to what became before him - he just lacks the filter and in some cases the intelligence that others possessed. The Saudi's have a lot of supporters in the west, it didn't take Trump to come along.

If China or India or anyone else made any moves to intervene in Gaza there would be immediate response from the US - look at the way Ireland is being portrayed in the US, the insidious economic threaths yet the Irish gov who let's face are an irrelevance in geopolitical circles have done nothing bar issue a few harsh words to Israel.

Let's not fool ourselves, the odds of Putin, any other CRINK alliance dictator, or the heads of any of their proxies ever seeing the inside of a courtroom are basically zero.

Regarding Russia, the best we can hope for is that Ukraine survives in some form and their special forces spend the next few decades hunting down Russian war criminals the way Israel did with Nazis in the decades after WWII. We can also hope that the Ayatollahs' regime collapses or is destroyed.

"International law" is great in theory but the "axis of upheaval" and their allies wipe their proverbial rear ends with it. That needs to be understood as part of or before criticism of Israel.

International law is ignored by the big countries East and West. And those they protect such as israel. There is no single axis ignoring international law more than others.

It's just funny that the ICC was considered an acceptable international body when it goes after African, Middle Eastern or Russians but now must be sanctioned by America when it goes after Israelis.

That must be Nigel with the brie...

Once Bibi is out of office there is a very good chance he will see the inside of an Israeli courtroom on the corruption charges. Israel has form for jailing very senior politicians.

It is really scary that you don't see the difference between Western democracies and evil regimes like Russia, Iran, Afghanistan, North Korea that inflict suffering on their own people. Does failing to condemn such regimes make you a supporter of them, in the same way that you label those who don't spend their time on here criticising Israel non-stop as Israel supporters?

Am I bothered by UK, France, US having nuclear weapons? No. Am I bothered by North Korea and Russia having nuclear weapons? Yes, definitely. Am I extremely concerned about the prospect of Iran acquiring nuclear weapons? Most certainly.

There is argument here that "International Law" was not created to protect countries. But to maintain that status quo, and world order.

I honestly don't know how "International Law" experts work in the field with a straight face. To me it has to be the most farcical pointless fields of law there is.

What is the point of a field of law if -

    1. It is ignored when it suits (By the big countries and their allies)
    2. It is (in the vast majority of cases) unenforceable.

Guff about stuff, and stuff about guff.

It’s unenforceable because there is no one to enforce it (and UN was deliberately setup to not work) and that suits countries like Iran quite fine until a bunker buster bomb falls on their heads in retaliation

Then they cry about intentional law

We in Ireland go out of our way to spend nothing on military, making us easy to to dismiss and laugh at when we start going on about international law

Let me know the name of the only country that has used a nuclear weapon against a civilian population, twice. That same country has a corrupt and mad leader currently happily promoting ethnic cleansing and entertaining a man wanted on war crimes and who is leading a country (which also has nuclear weapons in defiance of intenational law) that is daily murdering civilians.

I don't want anyone to have a nuclear weapon, full stop, but if asked by a country "why cant I have one of these weapons when these other guys have", I could not give a good answer.

This is what happened just yesterday

to the only country to have willingly given up nuclear weapons and put trust in “international agreements and guarantees”

Most of these 700+ drones per day are of Iranian design

No sure how that counters my comments. They are all evil regimes - Russia, Iran, Israel, and the US in its current state, but some are allowed nuclear weapons and some not.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 839 ✭✭✭poop emoji

I am not sure how having more fucked up theocratic backward authoritarian regimes (that crush their own people and fuel wars abroad against people who done nothing to them) getting nuclear weapons can be spun as a good thing. The world is burning with the dozen or so countries that do have them as is.

I was clear it was not a good thing but when just as fucked up and evil countries already have them then who gets to decide who does/doesn't.

The best thing is for all countries to decommission but we all know that is not going to happen.

According to updated Chinese satellite imagery it appears Iran took out CENTCOM’s Radome which operates regional operations, satellite communications, UAV control, and missile warning systems.

Looks like Trump was lying again.

The E3 signatories to the JCPOA Britain, France and Germany have notified the UNSC imposed snapback mechanism on Iran. Gives diplomacy 30 days to resolve the problem, if not Iran get's extreme sanctions reimposed on it.

Seems to be a very complicated resolution and legal process.

It's very early days, but a long-overdue collapse of this regime after nearly half a century would be a brilliant New Year present.

Protests spread across Iran for third day after currency hits record low

We can always hope the regime falls. If so, it will be 1 CRINK regime down, 3 to go. World would be a much better place.

Protests are spreading with regional offices and government buildings occupied. Still very early days and could all fizz out very quickly. (Like last time)

Things are escalating in Iran. The next 24-48 hours will tell a lot. The protests will get to a critical mass and change Iran forever, or the security forces will simply kill the demonstrators.

Not many folks who are usually on the airwaves pontificating about human rights have mentioned Iran either, by the way.

I see the US have threatened to intervene- its a pity they don't threaten the same when other nations are killing protestors( including their own citizens

Worst thing that can happen now is Israel/USA get involved and cause people to rally around the Despot.

If the regime is to fall, Let it fall naturally by the people. Can become a positive historic narrative for a new nation. But not if stained by Israel/USA actions.

The US is likely already involved, TheValeyard, but perhaps you meant overtly involved?. I have a feeling Bibi's meeting with Donnie involved getting the ok for further strikes on Iran. If this is the case it could likely lead to what you suggest.

Its mad how peoples hatred of Israel leads to people somehow thinking Iran are good.
