"Whiskey-adjacent" but had finally opened up one of last year's Christmas presents - Two Stacks Double Cream Liqueur.

    Dangerous stuff!

I remember reading the tasting notes on the first bottle I got when it was newly released. It sounded too good to be true, but was actually spot on. Fantastic when it's available at €30.

I'm a big fan of the Powers rye. Great drinking for the price

Yeah, when Powers Rye is on sale it's great value. I use it all the time for Old Fashioneds.

try it in a Vieux Carre, sensational.

I've used it for those before. Only thing I didn't have was the correct bitters. Even tried Celtic Whiskey during the week but they didn't have any Peychaud's.

I had to buy Peychauds from Master of Malt in the end because absolutely nowhere that should have stocked it, had it. That was a long time ago when MoM stuff never had customs trouble, though.

Hoping to get into town tomorrow to pick up some Old Comber. Is the 200th Anniversary one worth the price tag over the standard? Might just get the regular one first, and see what it's like anyway.

You might get lucky if its Celtic Whiskey Shop as it is one of the newest releases - suss out what bottles are open for tasting and put that question to them.

They had both in there, but didn’t realise they might have had it open for tasting. I’ll check again tomorrow.

I remembered the latest Three Drams set had a sample of the Old Comber 7yo SPS anniversary edition... I knew I wouldnt hold out until the tasting on 8th January so this post triggered its opening.

Have to say was expecting more from a €120 bottle. Very strong flavour of plums (least that's how I register it). Havent had the regular Old Comber 7yo single pot still so my point of reference is the Echlinville 'The Beginning' pot still which I thought was lovely.

If you do manage to taste any tomorrow please share your thoughts!

Always had a soft spot for Knob Creek!

I have a 10 year old Bushmills, Ardara at 46% and a basic Buffalo Trace on the go this Christmas. Normally I would have a really nice higher-end bottle picked out as a treat to myself for Christmas, but it just didn't happen this year, I lent towards wine instead.

I was gifted, as seems inevitable at this stage, a pair of Redbreast 12s. Whoever just keeps steering gift-buyers in the likes of O'Briens towards Redbreast needs to take a break from it and branch out a bit!

    50% Knob… 100% Balls.

How's that for an advertising slogan? 😀

BTW I'll happily take one of those excess Redbreasts off your hands Black Sheep…

I got an Micil Inverin today! Happy to try something new.

Very similar to the Dark Silkie and Midnight Silkie.

Starting this evening with an Aberlour Casg Anamh, hopefully finish with a Johns Lane CS.... maybe just a small one

Opened my Christmas Ardara this evening and I'd agree with your summation!

The smell is quite fumey but the taste is surprisingly mature for a three year old. A little sharp but some very nice creamy vanilla in the middle, and charred wood at the end. Very happy with it, and excited to taste more mature versions in coming years

They hadn't either bottle open for tasting, so I got the regular bottling. Managed to get the last one in the shop. Really nice whiskey.

Tried Jameson single pot still lads

Just wow it's a stunning drop

From the original bottle or the rebranded Distiller's Batch?

It is supposed to be same liquid but I'm paranoid when bottles change.

Getting stuck into a Scotch single malt Ardbeg.

Quite smokey, an acquired taste but very nice.

Jamesons dropped to the table at midnight, courtesy of the bar owner. It's so much nicer when its free.

December purchases and gifts included Talisker 10, Chivas 12, Powers Three Swallows, Crested, Teelings Small Batch and Black Bush. Nothing particularly fancy, but the cupboard is stocked for the first half or so of the year; at least until the Easter sales.

I tried the original bottlings of Jameson Single Pot Still and agree it always felt like a premium, good effort at the style. I don't think it ever really got much traction in the range though, which could explain the rebranding.

I'm not sure it was ever going to convert pot still fans away from elsewhere, and a lot of Jameson drinkers were never going to pivot to it versus other core offerings in the line-up.

I picked up two spare bottles

Yes I found it very tasty indeed

The new Distiller’s Batch is on offer in Dunne’s at the moment. Can’t remember seeing it there pre Christmas, but I might be wrong. Picked up a bottle anyway.

Got a bottle of the 10 year old anniversary Green Spot in the duty free for €71. Have only tried a cask strength of it, so hoping the same tasting notes come through in the lower ABV.

Let us know what you think of the Jameson

Same juice or different and if different any way good?

I got a bottle of the original when it was released, but to be honest, I won’t remember the details for an exact comparison after a couple of years.
I liked the original, but it wasn’t as good as I was expecting, so I’ll see how this feels on first sip.
