I think its naive not to regard welfare as a pull factor, especially when its at levels of upper-middle class salaries in the Global South. I dont know much about the US welfare system. I know its less generous than in Europe. In Ireland, our welfare rates are at levels of middle class salaries in parts of Eastern Europe. Now - I accept as they are EU states we have to abide by our obligations on that, and I quite like Eastern Europe and their economies are likely to eventually catch up with some western countries possible in our lifetimes. There is no conceivable way Somalia will.

It is wrong though to single out one nationality as Trump is doing.

You'd imagine that the govt would be pulling out all the stops/tricks to not have him here, it would be a Security/PR nightmare. Id say Martin is dreading paddys day again as well.

Ah as horrible as it is, you are better off to have him. Better to be a target than God forbid, irrelevant. You take some flack, you slide his member in your mouth , gurgle, smile and you tell the media how delighted you are to have the opportunity. This is what they are paid to do, politics is a **** game. The news cycle will move on from whatever scandal the **** a cyclone that is the trump admin drums up within a couple of days anyway.

My guess, Russia funneled dirty money to him via Deutsche Bank and on another occasion there was an underage prostitute and a videocamera involved. I would go so far as to speculate said prostitute was killed and evidence against Trump manufactured.

Trump wouldn't care about a simple pee tape, it's naive to assume that's all there is.

So there are only Somali households and 'native' (?) households in the US according to that graph. You could prove anything at all with graphs like that.

The worst part of this is that it's been so normalised that this would barely make a headline. A former top government official using language straight out of a KKK rally.

Tangentially, it's interesting to watch how this language filters through the American right wing. It spreads from the pundits on the periphery, percolating inward, testing the waters, and seeing if it meets too strong a pushback. Never mind 10 years ago, if you even contrast what's being said by the current Trump admin vs the previous one, it's utterly unbelievable. How long before the current rhetoric of Nick Fuentes becomes the script for Trump's press secretary? She's not quite at the 'Hitler was cool' point yet, but it can only be a matter of time based on the current trajectory.

You're guessing into the same direction as myself.

However I don't think it was "only one" prostitute. A night with "only one" wouldn't be a scandal for Trump, it'll be the "expected norm". I'd say if it was sexual, it would have been a night with more than one, plus a videocamera, - contents in the hands of Putin, the KGB, or both. ( ah, yes, they are one and the same anyway….)

Trump was also in dire financial situations every once in a while, and Russia could have helped him out, - some kind of a short term loan, or an interest free loan, or a loan which would never have to be repaid…….

All not beyond the most likely choices of speculation.

Either something sexual and more than one woman ( under age or not) or something financial to keep Trump looking a strong business man and "dealmaker".

Incidentally, the twitter poster who Flynn quotes is Katie Miller...

"Miller served as a deputy press secretary under U.S. President Donald Trump at the United States Department of Homeland Security from 2017 to 2019. She was the communications director for Vice President Mike Pence from 2020 to 2021 and acted as his press secretary from 2019 to 2020.

Miller was an advisor and spokesperson for the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) from January to May 2025, when she departed DOGE to work for Elon Musk in the private sector. She is married to presidential advisor Stephen Miller."

In other words, she is an amoral political hack who is prepared to work for a fascist and f**k a Nazi just to further her career.

Were there any official representatives of the U.S Govt present to meet Zelenskyy when he arrived in the U.S for an official visit to meet Trump?

Trump is a debased and immoral animal.

There was a time when America saw death in defence of democracy as a sacrifice. As a necessary and high price paid to oppose tyranny

Indeed as FDR said whilst USA was still neutral in WW2

"This nation will remain a neutral nation, but I cannot ask that every American remain neutral in thought as well"

Leaders in America have long recognised that their citizens would stand against oppression almost by default. Yet now? Not only do American leaders not see that necessity? Nor do many of their citizens.

To demean the loss of brave & principled Americans, killed by Russia in a war of aggression in a manner such as he has?

Demeans the office, the country and indeed the very idea of what "America" means.

That shining city on the hill?

Has become a sewer, led by rats!

He has referred to fallen American military personnel as suckers and losers so why would anyone be surprised when Americans are killed fighting for another country?

Like Senator Geary in Godfather II? Quite plausible, in my opinion.

As regards Deutsche Bank, if I remember correctly there are powerful, tremendous links between them and Trump. They seem to have kept the fucker from finally going under when no other bank would touch him with a barge pole. If one thing seems to be clear, though, it's that when the KGB induce someone to treason they actually end up having to bribe the traitors very, very little. It's usually literally buttons. Probably because they have already assembled juicy kompromat on them.

Quite why Deutsche Bank is said to have bankrolled the moocher Trump is something of a mystery, but Deutsche seems also to have taken on Epstein after his previous bank told him his custom was no longer welcome.

Back to gathering kompromat, due to the West German government's decision to open up the inner workings of the Stasi, it has been revealed exactly how they, and by extension their KGB mentors, operate. A typical scenario would involve a Western businessman drinking at the hotel bar and being approached by a charming, friendly lady. It would go from there and the video evidence, grainy and very low quality as it was, would be recorded back in the hotel room.

If anyone is interested, this documentary concerns the Hotel Neptun on the Baltic coast of the DDR, which is reputed to have had spy infrastructure built into its very plans. It's in German, but it can be watched with English AI subtitles. The documentary was broadcast by NDR, a German regional public service channel.

Mightn't be an official state visit, but the Irish Open is at his golf course next year, he might swing by if he's in the area

It's easy to understand the US welfare system; there isn't one. You get assistance from the Feds based on your income level, it's very slight. And, you've no guaranteed health care at all - you can go to them emergency room and they must treat you, but they'll find ways to charge you as well. Likewise, Medicaid is no guarantee the doctor you're seeing will take it, it only provides minimal health care, and again, you'll be charged for things.

Food assistance is via SNAP benefits, which are very low and regularly under attack.

Two things seemed to pop up at the media briefing post the Zelenskyy and Trump meeting. 1: Trump was in a pessimistic mood, no rubbish rhetoric…. 2: Zelenskyy spent a deal of time, when Trump was speaking, to looking down at his rostrum stand as if he was looking at a live feed on a screen there [maybe with interpretation of one sort or another] or a prepared script of Trump's expected speech. It seemed that either Trump is more downbeat and realistic on what advances might be made there or he is keeping his attention more on his meeting with Netanyahu today as more important to/for him politically.

He'd gotten his orders from Putin earlier that day. He might have been weighed down by the fact he can't just announce whatever he wanted and that he's not actually in charge any more.

I didn't see the press conference. Zelensky sounds upbeat about it. Personally, I'll believe it when I see it(an actual cease fire I mean).

Hopefully the Somali linked fraud in Minnesota gets fixed and all the people involved and the public officials who facilitated it get punished i.e. deportations and jail time.

However I suspect the republicans will do nothing because they like spouting off about stuff rather than taking action and the democrats will do nothing because they're knee deep in it

Can you imagine the nauseating outpouring of welcomes that would be made if he did travel here. Someone would get the idea of renaming Obama Plaza to Trump plaza which he would like.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,193 ✭✭✭✭banie01

    ah now...

Surely we'd follow Don's precedent and double barrel the name the name to Obama - Trump plaza as long as we make sure he knows we put the bigger man 1st 😉

I think for the Kennedy Centre, he knew the only way he'd get away with it was by double barelling it. It also bears the name of Kennedy which relates to one of his supporters RFK. Anything Obama-related he would want the name scrubbed off and replaced only as Trump Plaza.
