On the bright side, those Russian assets are going nowhere and remain a bargaining chip if a more reasonable person replaces Putin after the war. Europe’s strength in this fight is economic. That’s where the gap with Russia is most obvious. If we can keep the Ukrainian economy going, Russia’s war effort looks set to fail at some point on its current trajectory.

we can believe both at the same time. Russia has nuclear weapons and probably can end Europe and it has a demented leader.

Given their switch to a War economy, I'd say Russia in 5-10 years could very well present an existential threat to Europe. But I'd say this is contingent on them getting themselves out of the quagmire they are in in Ukraine first.

Europe has them too. More than enough to finish off Russia. This nuclear weapons talk is getting old. If he was ever going to use one he would have used one in Ukraine already. It would make no difference at this stage. They're already under the most crippling sanctions of any country ever.

In fairness, there are significant bodies of opinion in all three countries who would prefer a more pro-Western outlook.

The fact Biden implemented a ban on attacking the russian shadow flight is madness. It is the quickest way to force Moscow to end this war

Sure, but you’d still expect the pro-Russian faction to be a small minority.

They are but they are very good at convincing turkeys to vote for Christmas with the promise of lots of extra grain right now and a promise to look into getting something done about Christmas.

I think they take a long time to work. They were a factor in the fall of the Milosevic regime in Serbia in 2000, though so was defeat in Kosovo because of NATO intervention.

Sometimes they don't work e.g. North Korea and its nuclear programme. But that society is so brainwashed, that people think Kim is some sort of god on earth.

New US intelligence reports contradict Donald Trump on nearly every aspect of Putin and Russia

According to reporting by Reuters, U.S. intelligence agencies continue to assess that Russian President Vladimir Putin’s ambitions extend well beyond a limited settlement in Ukraine.

Analysts believe his strategic objectives have remained consistent since the launch of the full-scale invasion in 2022.

Those conclusions stand in sharp contrast to public statements by U.S. President Donald Trump and his envoys, who have said Moscow is seeking an end to the war.

Intelligence officials, however, see no evidence that Putin has abandoned broader territorial aims.

One source familiar with the assessments said the most recent intelligence review was completed in late September.

U.S. intelligence assessments also reject Moscow’s claims that Russia poses no threat to Europe.

Analysts instead view the war as part of a longer-term effort to restore influence over territories once controlled by the Soviet Union, including parts of Eastern Europe now within NATO.

“The intelligence community has always said that Putin wants more,” Mike Quigley, a Democratic member of the House Intelligence Committee, told Reuters.

He said European allies, particularly Poland and the Baltic states, share that concern.

I believe they would…but if I were to choose how fate played out I would prefer Ukraine pulling off some kind of Mossad-esque Eichmann kidnapping and bring Putin to Kyiv for a very public and humiliating trial.

Then, instead of shooting him, I would like Ukraine to jail him for the rest of his life, and while doing so to feed him daily headlines of how Russia is disintegrating…and how Ukraine is flourishing without him

Russia not only launched a large scale attack on Dobrofillia but 4 large mechanised columns. All destroyed thankfully. There is footage on telegram of well equipped Russian special forces used in an assault and seen surrendering. All on telegram but I'm sure they'll be up on X soon.

Are we expecting them to intensify assaults for the years end?

Putin did order them to take Pokrovsk before end of year, so I'm sure some super smart generals are making it look like they're trying.

I've seen the footage too, those Baba Yaga drones are incredible. They went from dropping smaller grenades or artillery shells to dropping 3-4 explosives right on top of a tank in quick succession.

Nukes aren't a factor here. They havent used them all this time for a reason: Only Losers use nukes first and its a crowning act of suicidal stupidity too. If they use them, China will turn on him very quickly, a nuclear conflict is the one thing that would seriously threaten the CCPs hold on power and they wont tolerate that, India would nope the fùck out just as quickly as well, in addition despite the Orange Bollocks the minute they even tried moving for the nuclear option the US would see it coming and they have the option of a first strike if they see it coming and thats not even taking into account the French or Brits deciding to put the boot in either.

The Value of Nukes lies in their deterrence not their use, Vatnik Russia using them in Ukraine would not deter attacks but make them a target, using nukes in a war they started and they're losing would make not just Putin but his entire chain of command enemys of everyone else on the planet and mark them for Death. Putin might try at some point but the rest of his generals might not as they value their lives and the truth is noones coming to invade Russia, they just want them out of Ukraine.

I'm not so sure, Europe is rearming itself quicker now than any time since the Cold War with billions being allocated to new systems, defensive barriers at the russian border, anti drone walls, upgrades and ammunition \ missile build ups.

Europe has the money to do this now, russia on the other hand has a tiny GDP on which to rely on to pay for its military expansion.

Probably needed given the large cages now equipped on their armour.

This is why claims that Putin wishes to sign a 'peace deal' regarding Ukraine in the very near future barely seem credible. Even if he signed such a joke of a document, he could renege on it at any subsequent point because of supposed 'provocations' by the Ukrainians or NATO.

Reports of infighting between Rubio and Witkoff over Ukraine. Rubio feels cut out by Witkoff.

Add to this the current state of what we are seeing from Russia when they are trying their best.

Make no mistake; what we are seeing in Ukraine is the sum total of Russia’s current military abilities. The Wagner rebellion exposed how little they have to defend themselves beyond what is currently on the Ukraine front lines. They are throwing everything they have at keeping that fight going and they clearly do not have the foresight nor objectivity to save some of those resources for a larger continent-wide conflict in 5 years time.

    Also:

    • They are expending Soviet era armor faster than they have the means to replace.
    • The Armata platform is vaporware, making 90’s era retrofits the most modern tank they’ve got.
    • Their most innovative weapon are fiber-optic drones, which the AFU have developed countermeasures for.
    • The Russian professional army is gutted of legacy talent and most of their forces are untrained conscripts. There is no culture of competency at any level.
    • Their airforce is of Soviet vintage and cannot renew destroyed airframes.
    • Their navy has been rendered pointless by Ukraine.
    • Their ability to refine fuel to power their own equipment is progressively being destroyed.

I would take any claim that the Russians could go to war with Europe in the short term with a tremendous amount of salt. Also always consider the source. If they are pro Russian, it’s part of signals propaganda to big up the Russians in the hope of frightening people into peace. Other sources against Russia might use the very same message to encourage armament purchases across Europe as a deterrent.

ruzzian military strength is an illusion. They can make all the claims they like about Armata tanks and Kizhal missiles, the truth is they are sending waves of human meat into battle in cavalry charges.

Negotiations should be stopped instantly. Give the Ukrainians the weapons they need to finish the job and drive the orcs out of their country back to the 1991 borders.

Mmmm … yeah … but what we're also seeing demonstrated in the killing fields of Pokrovsk, Kupiansk and elsewhere is an entirely irrational behaviour on the part of the Russians.

It doesn't really matter what state of bedgraggled incompetence might be their army, navy and airforce, if there's one man in the Kremlin who's being fed a stream of lies telling him that everything's great, then there's a non-zero chance that at a future date of his choising he'll order his generals to invade (say) Estonia or Lithuania, and those generals will lob a barage of missiles, drones and donkey-riding conscripts over the border because that's what they do.

It's like being a Certified Safe Driver - you can be as careful as you like piloting your own vehicle, but there's feck all you can do about the boozed-up, coked-up idiot that's about to T-bone you at the next junction.

All very true, what we are seeing from Russia now is all they have. The Russian army of old would have taken a sh*thole of a country like Ukraine in weeks, now it cannot manage to do it in years!….. its laughable that anyone would think Russia could be a threat to Europe and NATO. They have not been a superpower in over half a century.

Apparently - 1 of the main reasons that Russia invaded Ukraine is because of European Russia's dreadful demographics ,

Except now they're likely less 2 or 3 million young men - between dead , wounded or fled the country - and yet they continue to throw their youth into the meat grinder ..

The efforts of the armed forces of Ukraine to disarm putin's terrorists continue with a drone launch site targeted.

Also a boat repair facility mysteriously catches fire probably due to careless smoking I guess.
