Driving test routes

    Hi all,

I recently got my drivers license and found it a great struggle to find accurate up to date driving test routes as most of the apps never worked for me or others.

So I ended up making small site that uses google maps for real test routes so you can practise them turn by turn as you'd drive them on the day, no apps needed just the phone!

    the sites called driveflow

Not trying to sell here - genuinely just interested in hearing if this is something others would find useful or if theres anything I'm missing.

Happy to answer questions or take suggestions.

    Thanks,

    Liam

I think it's a good idea, but without being able to try it out, I wouldn't personally buy it. My Daughter will have her test soon and my Brother will also be doing his soon. What I would suggest is that you offer a 90 day license for one test route and for an extra couple of euro, unlock all test routes. Reason being is the vast majority will pick and keep only one test centre, but others will be open to cancellations and will take any test centre.

You should also give a couple of free trial drives, either time limited, or limited to a couple of drives. An APP would be more attractive imo.

Does testroutes.ie not already offer this ?

I tried to use theirs when learning but their tracking doesnt work - that's why I made these, they use google maps tracking software instead of a gimmicky one. Their cost was 15 euro a month… for routes… your joking.

That is a very good point. I'll make test route 1 free for all users, then from there allow them to purcahse the full thing if they like it - so no wondering how they work. I could make the app version however it seems quite useless as of right now because all that would be on it is links.

I will also add that deal of buy one route get the next one for alot cheaper

Thanks so much for feedback I could give you the test centres your Daughter is doing them in for free as a thank you.

The problem with sites like this, is that the routes become too busy with people doing test drives, and the testers alter the routes.

I know of one route where learners were using a housing estate for the corner reverse, locals complained, and the testers stop using it.

Long and short, if you have specific info, use it, don't share it.

If you are a good enough driver unfamiliar roads really shouldn't be too testing I'd have thought.

ah yeah but people would obviously prefer to ensure a pass first time instead of having to go back through the whole system again hence why set routes are so popular!

I had replied to this, but it seems it deleted.

My suggestion about paying a bit more for more than 1 route was to unlock all routes Give people a 6 month or 12 months license to use 1 or all routes. You could localise it to centres within a certain distance of the main chosen centre, but that only adds more work for no gain to you. The "all routes" option is for those who are open to cancellations at any test centre. Few people will buy it and even less will use it, so it makes sense to charge a small fee extra fee for the flexibility, as there is no loss on your end for the license. Most likely, the person will end up only using their chosen centre for practice and if they take a cancellation at a different centre, they are likely to only use the service a couple of times.

I'd be happy to look at the Finglas and Raheny routes if you want to PM me. Appreciate the offer. Would be interesting to see how it works.

Interesting thread - I built something in this space recently called Test Day (testday.ie). Different angle though: instead of just showing routes, it generates a personalised practice plan based on your test centre, how many weeks you have, and which manoeuvres you want to work on. Covers all 7 Dublin centres, 43 routes, Google Maps turn-by-turn. Free, no app, no signup, works on your phone. Still early days so genuinely after feedback if anyone's prepping.
