according to ben jacobs (well his understanding of the situation) mainoo knew and endorsed his brother wearing that t-shirt against bournemouth.

33.40 mins in the below vid for anyone interested.

I said it during the game, the ball is horrible for many reason, like shae goes on an overlap bombing forward, dalot doesn't play the pass, waits and then plays a **** pass to Bruno, if he at least played the **** pass and starting running back it'd be something, the lack of footballing IQ out players have is head wrecking.

All he has to do is play shaw on the over lap and hold his position or fall back to cover shaw and we are set defensivly.

His pass takes himself, shaw and Bruno out of the defence on a counter

I've said for years our scouting seems utterly abysmal. We never seem to be anywhere near getting a Munoz type middle-age ready to plug in and play immediately at a high level. Its either extremely expensive big names or just kids nowhere near ready.

Just to point out that there's loads of "Munoz type middle-age" players signed each summer to the league. Most don't go on to be as good as Munoz.

Utd's scouting should be doing better but it's also not as easy a task as just picking out the good ones.
Our eyes are always drawn after the fact when a player is doing well down the league and we ask "why didn't utd get him".

Also, moving to palace and moving to Utd are very very different moves.
You don't get time at Utd to find your feet to the same level you do at Brighton or Palace so on

Perhaps but theres a clear gap between unproven kid a world class expensive star. We never hit that middle area. Just wait for them to quadruple in value elsewhere.

Supposedly we are meant to be eyeing up Neves who has decided he wants to quit Saudi Arabia. He only has 6 months left in January so Hilal are putting an 18m price tag on him. Ourselves and Newcastle apparently fighting for him now.

While Saudi league would be a bit of a red flag he seems to have kept up his high standard for Portugal so that appears an interesting opportunity that has popped up.

You’re missing our real specialty. The unproven kid who’s priced like a world class expensive star.

    So leaving behind the midfield debate what do posters make of our Christmas fixtures;

    21st Dec Villa (A)

    26th Dec Newcastle (H)
    30th Dec Wolves (H)

    4th Jan Leeds (A)

Villa are the in form team at the minute but like ourselves they've been conceding goals 1 clean sheet in 7 against Wolves I think we will definitely score just the usual defensive frailties to worry about.

I'd like to think we will beat Newcastle and Wolves at home- We are 4 points ahead of NC at the minute and its a big game against another top 6 hopeful.

Leeds have Liverpool away at Anfield on New Years day so we should be fresher- Be a hard place to go and win, Leeds will be up for it against us.

In total out of a possible 12 points I'd like to think we could get 8 or better. Squad rotation will be important and some big games coming up to look forward to!

Sorry, neglected Burnley (A) 7th January- Easy three points!!😂 So i'd be hoping to get 11 out of possible 15- I know its optimistic and its the hope that kills you!

I'd expect wins against Wolves, Burnley, Leeds anyway. I dont think Newcastle are getting anyone back before we play them and Burn has joined the injury list so we should also beat them imo. Forget Villa.

I think if we play to villas strengths they could beat us well but via versa if we invite them on snuff out the few creative players they have and just hit them on the counter we could win well.

Id like to see similar game plan as the Liverpool one but with more attacking threat and better defending.

There is a blueprint there to beating them similar to Liverpool so hopefully That's the route we go and we execute it.

Newcastle are a hard dirty team there performances can be all over the place at times but they always seem to raise their game against us

They are in bits at the back though. Pope might be back but Livramento, Hall, Burn, Trippier, Krafth are all out so they dont appear to have any fit full back left in the squad.

Ah fair enough didn't realize they were that badly off, so a good time to be playing then for sure, nice to happen for a change,.still absolutely hate playing and watching them since Howe became manager.

They do a have elanga too for the ex player magic :)

We are missing a good few ourselves and always struggle against Newcastles physicality and intensity and Villa should be too good for us.

Really hopeful of 9 points from the other 3 so that’s 9 points from the next 5 games.

I expect Wissa will probably be ready to start by the time we face them so that could well be a problem aswell. It certainly wont end 0-0 anyway.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,173 ✭✭✭Caustic

Be interesting what they do with Wissa and Woltermade actually when they are both available. Don't Newcastle normally play a 4-3-3.

Don't think we will ever see a 0-0 again

need to be coming out of those 5 games with 9 at a minimum. with newcastle's injuries, you could say 12.

Wolves is the only match I'd be confident about

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,406 ✭✭✭✭bucketybuck

We only won 2 of the last 7 games in our "easy" run, so I don't know why people expect the win rate to increase now that the games get harder, the schedule tighter and the squad smaller.

Yeah exactly, I wouldn't be predicting a points tally for the next 5 games with any degree of certainty. There is no consistency of performance to do that with any confidence.

Listening to Andy Mitten on TOTD and he thinks United are going for 2 in CM, CB and another player (didnt give a position)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,406 ✭✭✭✭DrPhilG

In January?? Or just as the next targets now or in the summer?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,773 ✭✭✭SteM

Has to be targets for next summer I would imagine. Not sure about this list tbh, we need 2 CMs as things stand. Casemiro & Ugarte will problem be gone in the summer, Bruno looks like he might be eyeing the door and who knows what's going to happen with Mainoo. If they were all to go we'd need at least 3 to replace them, especially if we have EL football.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,080 ✭✭✭✭Zeek12

Villa will be very difficult. Form team in the league, and our already weak-ish midfield is hit by a suspension.

I would expect to beat Newcastle at home. Obviously Wolves should be the same.

I really don't fancy the Leeds game. They're putting in some big performances at home lately and Calvert-Lewin has hit some form. Wouldn't be very surprised if they beat us.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,474 ✭✭✭Quags

He didn't really say timeframe, Just United are looking at it. Also with them saying that they wouldn't be surprised to see Bruno be gone and if Saudi come in it be cash up front they think which would be great.

Mentioned that Anderson has a list of suitors and United will need players like Cunha/Mbuembo to make it clear to their clubs they want United only

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,474 ✭✭✭Quags

2 to replace those, Mainoo to replace Bruno (lets just say), Kone at youth level promoted with Lacey. Again, we could be back here on Sept 1st and all wrong

It would actually be sign of progress for me if we buy 2 top quality CMs next summer.

We possibly might even need a third to strengthen the squad.

Its the one priority next summer with new FB also.

The way things are going I wudnt be surprised if Bruno, Mainoo, Case and Ugarte are all gone by next July

I saw United linked with midfielder Ruben Neves, who might have had enough of Saudi after two years. He's still only 28.

It might be quite a sensible move actually if the fee wasn't too high, and we know that Amorim loves Portugese players…..
