Ah yeah. I'd forgotten that he hadn't been well. Great to see he's back playing. Saw him about 30 years ago with SLF.

    Absolute legend of the bass!!!

I'm a bit too young to have seen the Jam but I'll settle for Bruce knocking out the "Town called Malice" bass riff at Emo 😀

That's a pretty decent line up, but still going to give this a miss, I enjoyed the last two editions but was absolutely knackered after working two festivals in row. Will just do ATN next year, along with maybe Beyond the Pale and EP.

If you want to get into it, you got to get out of it. (Hawkwind 1982)

If Trinity can afford a band surely Forest Fest can also. Hell if Night and Day can afford a band or Letterkenny next summer then FF can.

People are probably disappointed because they teased big reveal only for it to be band that played 2 years ago. Had they announced James during first reveal and left Madness as final reveal it would have been better.

Curious as to what you think they could have gotten? It's a pretty impressive line up for what's still a small fest.

(it's got to be said that it's a serious sausage fest so far).

I meant the tier above, forest festival not going to afford a new order, Duran Duran, Chic etc from the era it concentrates on.

Is there likely to be an electronic act added for the Saturday night slot?

Anyone Looking for James tickets in the Big Top? 😅😅

When are the tickets likely to increase in price, before Xmas or after?

Would've thought Trinity was really a tier above for the most part. Couldn't imagine Weezer rocking up in Emo tbh. I follow a few of the bands on forest fest and their pretty much on comparative festival line ups throughout Britain.

Saw Doctors are obvious ones. They are playing a much much smaller festival in Night and Day next summer.

UB40 again playing much smaller festival in Letterkenny. These are festivals just in tents having attended both.

Crowded House are touring right now don't think it would cost millions to bring them over.

I hate to use pro wrestling comparison here but yesterday announcement was basically "Savio Vega as the mystery partner" and James are great live but Forest Fest went about it all wrong building them up for weeks like that.

Last year FF had best lineup of any music festival on this island by a country mile. No offence to EATB but they ain't a headline act in 2025 and won't pull a fraction of the crowds Franz Ferdinand or Travis did this year.

Manics, Suede and Madness have all played Trinity in recent years and headlined FF.

saw doctors can’t play both night & day and forest fest as both festivals would require radius clause exclusivity covering the midlands.

Crowded house have no upcoming European shows .
a festival can only book whose around, in their budgets and will agree to play in Emo.

no offence to you but people are often armchair festival bookers and think promoters can just magically book certain acts. Tons of factors outside promoters control that mean they have limited options. it’s especially difficult for independent festivals like forest fest. Agents of certain acts won’t even respond to booking requests outside of Livenation or Aiken etc

Placebo would be a great shout, seen em at Bearded Theory few years ago headlining. The guy is a totally underrated songwriter…

Ah Weezer could easily rock up to Emo given previous acts. They wouldn’t be out of place at all.

Festivals in general are probably a bit over saturated at the moment and they can only book so many acts.

But from a curation point of view, it’s very bland and beige. A bit of Mickeyfest.

James, Deacon Blue and the Coronas on Saturday night is really poor

All reasonable suggestions in size, timing though, they can only book what's on offer and some years will have slim pickins.

James and deacon blue are both great live and have great catalogue of songs so I think they are good acts for FF given its target market. Think the Coronas look totally out of place at this festival but that may be my bias as wouldn't cross the road to see them.

For my tastes, the lineup last year, esp Fri & Sat was way better to this year, but a gang of us are planning on going as a joint 50th shindig. Lots of bands from our youth so far and likely to me more added, so suits everyone

First visit next year as up to know always clashed with family holidays but now they are older not an issue. Have really liked the previous line ups and think this year's is excellent for my tastes but can see compared to other years may not appear as strong but having never gone I don't have that real comparison so probably over excited by it. Having spent a few years giving out about EP lineups great to have one I like, Coronas being an exception look so out of place to me not just because of their era but their "music" also

Sawdoctors are playing in two Connacht festivals next summer the so called radius clause wasn't taken into account there.

I'd like to hear who you think would be good if you think Deacon Blue,James two excellent live bands are poor? Never seen Coronas live so can't comment on them.

Night & day and forest fest are direct competition hence can only do one or the other.
a hometown Galway headline show isn’t and different perceived catchment areas

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,249 ✭✭✭blowitupref

Night and day is held in Boyle Co Roscommon In Connacht I don't see how it's direct competition to a festival in Leinster?

And even it was a bigger festival that is Forestfest than Night and Day should have signed the Sawdoctors up before Night and day over the last five years.

They’re decent bands for sure but hardly exciting acts to see on a bill in 2026 even for a nostalgia type festival like FF.

Compared to last year, you had Manics, Orbital, Therapy?, Peter Hook. A good mix and curation.

To be fair, it’s probably the addition of Coronas that is pulling the whole Saturday line up down for me. Not to mention FLC minus Huey.

All that said, great little festival but heavily line up dependent for me.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,415 ✭✭✭FullBack Jam

I disagree. You say that James and Deacon Blue are not exciting on a 2026 bill, but you then compare that to Manics, Orbital, Therapy and Peter Hook - all of whom have been around for the past approx. 40 years. I think there is plenty of exciting options on this years list. Loads of variety there:-

    Echo and the bunnymen

    Charlatans

    Wedding Present

    These Charming Men

    James

    Deacon Blue

    Sultans of Ping

    King Kong Company

    Power of Dreams

    Fun Lovin Criminals

    Ham Sandwich

    Madness

    Feeder

    Kerbdog

    Black Grape

    Qween

Dunno why people are giving out about the odd band eg Coronas not being to their taste. Trust me even with only half a dozen stages there will be more than enough going on for everyone. If you don't like what you see….just take a short walk around 😊

That's what I did last year and discovered gems like Robert Finley.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,990 ✭✭✭Macy0161

Weezer would fit the music, but iirc at Trinity they were a good bit more expensive tickets than the Manics/ Suede co-headliner (and more than when they supported Smashing Pumpkins in the point).

I'd put Madness in a bit of different bracket tbh as they have the widest appeal of anyone on that line up for non-music heads, so could see why FF would push out for them.

Those going on about the Coronas and how they look out of place well Bell X 1 have played Forest fest previously and would be considered similar to the Coronas.

    Robert Finlay was amazing.

Saw Doctors are a bit shíte.

I wouldn't consider BellX1 and the Coronas particular similar.
