Making my way through episodes of Winter Walks at the moment. It’s such a beautiful, relaxing, subtly-uplifting watch, and a merciful change from so much of what’s on television. The footage is filmed by the celebrity ‘walker’ themselves by holding a selfie stick with a 360-degree camera on the end (alongside some aerial drone shots, which I’m a bit iffy about). It might once have been a gimmick, but camera technology has advanced so much that it works extremely well. There’s an intimacy with the walker and you feel like you’re there on the walk yourself.

I’d love for RTE to do an Irish equivalent. They do have Tracks and Trails, but it’s just a standard format travel doc, with segues, voiceovers and background music. None of what makes Winter Walks so special.

Enjoyed bits of the Michael Aspel programmes last night - especially the Kate Bush appearance

Michael Palin Remembers… East of Ipswich

    23rd December 2200

Followed by East of Ipswich itself. Excellent 1950s period coming-of-age drama I saw when first transmitted in 1987, looking forward to seeing it again

    Also…

I didn't know he wrote the theme tune, played the theme tune… He was often on PlayAway, Play School and various road safety PIFs

Today at 2000 followed by an episode of Bod

    I'm partial to your abracadabra
I'm raptured by the joy of it all
