Gusting up to 63 knots (117 kph) now in Dublin Bay and with high tide due imminently a lot of over-topping along the pier in Dun Laoghaire.

Some very strong gusts hitting Galway city now - was very quiet all morning (the odd puff here and there), we even got some sunshine.

All of a sudden, within 10-15 min, the gusts have begun and can feel the windows shaking with the large ones.

Was absolutely dead in Westport and now a few squalls. No wind, though it was breezy a while ago.

Will be interesting to see if we get impacted.

Noticed the roads were quiet today and no shortage of parking spaces. Still some folk out and about shopping undeterred.

Funny ould day in Cork City. Had a couple of big long gusts mid morning that reminded me to secure the garden furniture (something slid 5m down the deck). Then some calm, and it's really picked up and got angry in the last 45-50 minutes. I would say less strength to the gusts in my garden, but they are blowing far more frequently and they are more sustained.

Not surprised, very wild here in central Co. Wexford and must even worse further south. I lost power there only for about an hour, the first time I've lost power due to a storm since I moved here a few years ago.

The long suffering 20 year old timber fence we "inherited" a couple of years ago has finally given up the ghost today (far SE coast).

It survived Ophelia and Eowyn amongst others although has had plenty of patch work over the years.

Definitely feels red level here on the far SE coast. On a par with the likes of Eowyn in terms of impact and damage, albeit to my untrained and unknowledgeable mind!

Dunsany is 975hPa so you're baro needs calibration!

The schools etc. that closed today were correct to exercise caution. On SM I see reports of trees down (some on top of cars), and roads flooded. Met Eireann was taking a beating last night on SM that premises couldn't legally close unless they declared a red warning, yet schools here closed on orange. These people need to take a breath and a step back from phones and keyboards. We're all inconvenienced but if the storm doesn't kill anyone or do significant damage, both are good things to take from it.

The wind has died down considerably. Let's see what happens when it goes westerly

It's quite clam here (Longford) at present after being quite wild around lunchtime. I presume the worst is still on the way. Still have power, which is the big surprise for me. We used to get cut off within minutes of the first big gust!

Was there a massive shift to the South/South East in terms of track for this storm?

Even when I was going to bed last night it seemed the consensus was the West was very much in the firing line with a heavy glancing blow on the South East.

Now it seems the S/SE is baring the brunt, or is it simply a timing issue?

SW Laois, suddenly gusting again from SW direction after a lull of about 90 minutes. Accompanied by horizontal rain!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,256 ✭✭✭Storm 10

All timing as the storm moves from the South to the North some gusts in Galway now

The punch seems to be dissipating here in Cork harbour.

Thankfully I was able to upright the wheely bins and find my way back to the couch without having to resort to eating a sleigh dog.

Yep, just picked up big time in Galway city a few minutes ago.

I'm a few miles up the road from you Darwin and can confirm the uptick in wind and horizontal rain which caught me off guard out for a walk on my lunch break 😓
