Zelensky is simply my hero, one of the most inspiring people in my lifetime, and Lord knows he has enough important things to do but I wish somebody would advise him on the pronunciation of ‘peace’ in English. The ‘e’ sounds too like an ‘i’ at the moment.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,936 ✭✭✭wandererz

    Give him a break.

He could barely speak English a few years ago.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,212 ✭✭✭Ardillaun

True, he has made tremendous progress in English. This is the most minor and juvenile of quibbles.

Ah no he should leave it, a funnyman like him could really kill with an adapted version of the old Carry on line

I once talked peace with a Sioux, but you can't trust them. One moment it was peace on, the next it was peace off.

    The Historical Betrayal Of Ukraine

Comments on Irish social media pages this morning are depressing. Apparently we're selling out the Irish people to pay for Ukraine. Have none of us learned from history? That to appease leads to the strengthening of the aggressor? Putin must be laughing this morning, a weak US because of trump and a weak European union( militarily).

This is not going to end well

Well if anyone is looking for a reason not to vote for a “left wave” next election, they have it

Social media is full of Putin fans, I wouldn't put too much stock in it

A fair point- it’s taken some time for Europe and the world to get the measure on Trump - I think they’ve done that now - praising Trump as “the man” would certainly put him in a difficult situation - if he truly is the all powerful Oz, then why not kick Putins butt? 😀

Unfortunately I think Trump wants to get into bed with Putin - who knows he may already have.

From The Telegraph ...Russia to win the war, possibly Ukraine to ultimately win the peace

Sure Trump's "peace plan " had more about money than anything else when you read through the 28 points I think it was .Europe just has to take the lead and side line America as much as they can till that country wakes up and comes to its senses.

    Disappointing news from Moscow.

I would have thought that getting Putin and Witkoff in a room together would have led to an immediate ceasefire + sustainable peace solution agreeable to all. Especially with Jared Kushner being there too.

    Oh well…..

Well people of that view tend to get banned here, plenty of pro russian fanatics about, they tend to be trump fans also, either way the vast majority of people aren't, but are less likely to be shouting about it on social media.

The Ru negotiators ,because they come from a very DIFFERENT set of ‘negotiating rules/ different understanding of what is true/ different ideology/very experienced at deflection / trick of coming up with impossible conditions / skilled at drawing out negotiations/ skill at threatening opposition/ Eric, etc, etc, etc’ , CONTINUE TO RUN RINGS AROUND THE US negotiators.

All of the above allows Putin to continue to ‘inch ‘away for Ukr land.

Putin puts ABSOLUTLY no value on his soldier / equipment losses as he thinks that he can out manoeuvre Ukr on this front

In his mind it will all be worth it when he is ‘left ‘ with at least the Donbas, Crimea and Luhansk Oblasts.

Ru needs a win so the following idea. Trump could ‘promise’ Putin that he will pump billions into the RU economy, repair what Ukr destroyed, do massive trade deals , help it the extract its rear earth, etc, wealth , have returned all its ceased assets and not be responsible for the damage it has caused in Ukr IF, IF, IF, Ru stops the war immediately and withdraws back to the pre 2014 boarders within one week.

The above plan should be shared with the Ru and at least it’s a document for ‘discussion’

Russia HAS NOT THE SOLE RIGHT/FRANCHISE on coming up with challenging proposals/ ones with laying down ‘very tough’ conditions.

The above plan has big wins for both sides and significant losses for both sides

Kushner is we’re schoolboy looking and has a luck of being caught looking at very bright headlights,. While Stephen always has the look of a very compliant individual with that lapdog look. Their looks/ ‘stare’/ stance alone does not inspire me to have confidence in them as negotiators in this very serious matter in front of them

Maybe the above is the very reason that Trump chose them as his representatives to ‘ negotiate with Putin.

I find the Putin /Stephen Wirciff meetings highly unusual . Are the meetings at this level held at pres to pres level? Should Stephen not be having these negotiations with Lavrov and feed the outcome back to both pres?

There was a wave of them on Boards yesterday and noticed similar comments elsewhere. Not the usual anti-NATO crowd - it was a "dem foreigners" shower. Definitely mobilised or dodgy.

Trump should give Ukraine the tomahawks now in response to Vladimir rejecting a peace deal, but he won't. I know others have said it, but the only way this ends is if he is made to realise he can't win on the battle field. The tomawhawks would be a good start to forcing that realistation. We saw how he sudddenly made the phoney gambit to Trump when he feared the Americans were going to give them to Ukraine.

It seems there was no Agreement in Moscow yesterday. This time Kushner was with Witkoff.

Different opinions on the presence of Kushner. Sources before the meeting said that unlike Witkoff, Kushner likes to take notes. Maybe this way there will be some verification of what was said.

Critics though see it as more evidence of the Trump admins corporate goals from these talks.

I do kind of wish the various media groups would finally clue in to the fact that while Donnie is in the picture all of these "talks" are essentially Russian-driven pantomime with a sprinkle of Donnie's now-dead Nobel Prize ambitions.

Donnie's White House lacks leadership when it comes to a strategy….because it lacks a leader. Donnie inhibits the office…but he has no plan or opinion beyond what will give him personal kudos or enrich him. So thanks to that the various characters the US sends over to Moscow do so with little in the way of objectives or requirements. Probably little more than "Go get a Deal!" from Mr. Art of the Deal™ on the way out the door.

    So the following happens:

    • Russia give the US their wishlist.
    • The US barely Yandex-Translates it correctly to English (or worse..they use the Kremlin's Yandex-translated English version unedited).
    • Europe pretend to have "crisis meetings" to give the impression of taking the "Russia talks" seriously…although they likely know where this is going.
    • The various Cauldron Clubs online get exicted and use the "talks" in an attempt to boost Russia as a reasonable partner. (While ignoring everything else)
    • Europe pledge to continue supporting Ukraine as usual.
    • Ukraine pretend to consider the deal but ultimatly reject it because the Russians want something unreasonable.
    • Russia reject their own deal and blame Ukraine for being unreasonable.
    • Rinse and repeat.

It's a wasteful merry-go-round of non-diplomacy, but it keeps running because Donnie still wants his "peace" kudos, and the Russians live in increasingly desperate hope that one day Ukraine might say yes and save them from an eventual disintergration of the Russian state.

I suspect that these talks with keep happening and we'll have many "Istanbuls" right up until Donnie leaves office, but that nothing will actually come of it.

I don't take much interest in this 'peace' deal. It is just a football all of them are playing.

It looks like history is starting up again.

At the start of a Cabinet meeting just after noon ET on Tuesday, President Donald Trump made his seemingly obligatory reference to “Sleepy Joe” Biden.

    …….

Even as his Cabinet was assembled to engage in one of his favorite activities – singing the praises of Trump – he repeatedly appeared to doze off.

    Good list !

You forgot the part where Trump, Vance and other US sources will tweet cryptically about a deal being very close, great productive meetings, significant progress and so on. Sometimes even announcing ceasefires.

Just prior to the last step of Russia eventually gaslighting them.

    Rinse and repeat indeed.

Considering he said yesterday that he’s ready for war with Europe, I held out zero hope - maybe I’m just too cynical in my old age

A MAGA senator came up on my TikTok feed yesterday explaining why Ukraine is at fault over the war in the first place - it’s not limited to just unemployed idiots - this was a serious attempt to sway people away from supporting Ukraine

The Senate Republicans overall tend to be more pro Ukraine. The term is 6 years there so less fear of Trump though still some.
