"... it's the price of a can of coke and a couple of chocolate bars in the difference of them all."

So true. But the bigger reality is that all plan pricing is based on the current and any announced near-term changes, but not changes that occur throughout the course of the contract. It would be interesting to look back retrospectively when the year is up to see how a chosen plan compared to the others, but life's too short :)

Flogas fixed still cheaper for heavy night rate users like myself - heat pump, etc. But yeah the price differentials are small compared to what they have been in the past.

Anyone whose contract has expired with Bord Gais they are currently offering €75 cashback along with 32% discount, SSE working out slightly cheaper. Rural 24 Hr Meter.

switched over to flo gas yesterday evening and received an account number in an hour. The ETA for switching is showing as the same date of my application. Is this a glitch or did they switch over my connection on the same day?

Could have done. But then it's Flogas

Anyone know if the Flogas BWG deals are still available? I'm with them for gas, but not electricity and my contract is up this week. Don't remember what their electricity rates were on that plan so thought I'd check here.

But just clicked on the link - Flogas BWG Affinity Rates - and it's looking for my email address, which is new. No information available otherwise.

Are those rates still better than their other current plans, does anyone remember?

Single Electricity 30% Discount + €150 Welcome Credit - Unit Rate 27.75 Cent per kWh & Standing Charge €275.39 (incl. VAT @ 9.0%) PSO Levy €26.29 (incl. VAT @ 9.0%)

Fixed Electricity - Unit Rate 24.09 Cent per kWh & Standing Charge €275.39 PSO Levy €26.29

Also, can you use Energy Pal or any of the other such sites, if you don't have a smart meter to upload a data file from?

    And, if so, how?

    TIA.

How are they offering this ? I got the mail my contract is up next month, but they didn't offer me this.. I think it was 20% they offered, which would not be enough for me to saty.. 32% is what I have now, and I'll happily stay

I submitted my details via energypal. It's suggesting FloGas Smart 24 Hour Smart 30% Discount + €150 is my best option. My contract with energia up in 2 weeks. WHat's the best way to proceed if i want to change to flogas? wait until energia contract is up and then contact flogas? thanks

yes you instigate the switch the day after your contract is up 👍

    The internet isn’t for everyone

If I have received the welcome letter from Flogas with a contract start date and an account number, am I in the clear with regards to my old energy supplier charging me a fortune after my contract end date?

I've got the letter from Flogas but radio silence since then (about a week ago). My Energia account is still accessible even though the contract ended the day after I signed up to Flogas.

Anyone got any experience from a similar situation?

log into your account and it gives the option of selecting a new contract offer or ring them and they offer the discount along with €75 bonus. 01 5143988

there is usually a final bill to come from the previous energy provider

Energy pal suggests same for me although I am currently not on a smart plan beware if you are not on a smart plan once u switch to one u cannot switch back

Other than that if you are happy to go with Flogas switch online day or two after your contract is up. Energia retention team will probably call to make u an offer to stay

Dont worry as it's a known issue. It happens when you quote 2 consecutive posts.

Any existing Flogas customers get the €150 bonus when renewing with this plan?

As far as I can remember (when the plan details were still immediately visible at that link) there was no welcome credit incentive to sign up. It was all about the preferential and (supposedly) fixed rate. Although, we all now know it wasn't, in fact, "fixed" at all.

Just tried to input my email address (the one I already used to sign up for gas with them via this plan, twice) there to see for myself and it said that the "email domains do not match", so I'm unable to access the plan information.

Has anyone been able to access it? Or do you now presumably need an actual BWG email address to do so?

My electricity and gas contracts with Energia are expiring tomorrow. I am having solar PV installed 8 kW system next week and Pinenergy is suggested as the best deal via energypal.ie

Do I wait until the new solar PV is installed or I can switch tomorrow?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,858 ✭✭✭bren2001

The answer to your query is sign up the day after the contract expires. So sign up on Wednesday.

Pinergy is an odd company to go with. I'd be avoiding them

Thanks for the feedback on PinEnergy.

Second best suggested deal is from FloGas.

@bren2001, do you have solar PV/Battery? Curious about the comment re pinenergy? They have 6c 3 hour overnight rate and 25c feed in tariff currently. If you have solar pv and batteries they are a great option if you know how to optimize it. In winter I run my house on circa e1 a day from grid, 6c * 17kwh charged to batteries in 3 hours. Excess solar will be exported at 25c. In summer you can build up a lot of credit too. Its defo not for non pv/battery users as their standard rate is very high but the key to it is minimal draw from the grid outside of the cheap 3 hour 6c window. I do have 18kwh battery storage though so can cover pretty much any days requirements bar when the house load exceeds the inverters capacity at 5.5kwh. Their 1st couple of bills make no sense (will charge ya e300 but then once they have a few mths data a large credit hits up and it normalizes then, you have to keep e200 credit minimum on account and they have no problem paying excess credit back to your bank account. Its a niche offering that solar PV owners ideally with batteries can make the most savings on.

Are you getting battery storage also? Pinenergy is a very good option in certain solar pv setups.

Looks like one of the Flogas offerings (Fixed Electricity [24.09c inc VAT] or Single Electricity 30% Discount [27.75c inc VAT] + €150 credit) will suit me best.

Just out of curiosity, what are people actually being offered from their Retention Team to stay with Energia?

I had a look through their Renew My Contract portal on my account and all that was offered was a paltry 25% off, for 31.99c (inc VAT) - which is a bad joke considering I'm currently getting a 41% discount from them. Even more so, when you factor in the 12% price increase in October.

So that risible offer for the next 12 months, would effectively be a whopping 42% price increase from last year's signup rate. Give over!

Their new customer offering isn't much better tbh (29% discount @ 30.28c) but at least that's almost, somewhere near market competitive.

Is that really the best they've got?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,220 ✭✭✭masterboy123

No battery. Just 8kw solar PV system. Battery was extra €3000 and cant afford for the moment.

I am with Energia at the moment.

The best deal for me is FloGas:

Smart Dual Fuel 30% Discount + €210 Welcome Credit.

Just to be clear, the risible offer you referred to for existing customers is only 5% more than the 'near market competitive' offer for new customers. Also, base electricity prices have been rising recently so it's not fair to compare current plan pricing with that from last year.

Ok, run a mile from pinenergy then, without battery storage it's a non starter
