To paraphrase the R.E.M. quote, I hope next week she's number zero.

There's just no reason for Cher, Aerosmith or Kiss to exist. Thanks, stupid American record buyers.

Didn’t know Dave Fanning was a member of Darts.

Did Gavin Friday get him the gig?

Greatest basslines, new three part series starts on Sky Arts 9pm tonight.

(It's 'hit me with your rhythm stick' by Norman Watt-Roy of the Blockheads if you ask me.)

Sky Arts turns up the groove with new three-part documentary, Greatest Basslines, airing 28 November | Sky Group https://share.google/YjbpXLrwgvg4mrvRi

The one I am particularly interested in is the episode with Peter "Hookie" Hook - tonight's one I think. Former bassist with New Order, and Joy Division previously.

One can never tire of ‘I Feel For You’.

One of the greatest pop records of all time.

It wasn't until I was 10 we got a radio in the house that could reproduce anything approaching a bass frequency. Up until then all we 'ad was a MW/LW transistor with a case made out of vinyl covered cardboard.

    We 'ad it tough.

But my grandad had one of those lovely 60s Ogle Design Bush transistors (the ones that took the massive PP9 batteries that used to be used in prison as weapons) - this pic is a modern fake, not the real thing, sorry.

His one had three buttons - LW, MW, and Radio Luxembourg! not that he used the last one.

I'd love to know what happened to it - I expect one of my cousins flung it into a skip.

Posting this for two reasons -

    • I like the song, always have
    • The absolute cringe of the intro and outro with you know who.

Now, don't keep asking me why, Reg!

Not sure how the rude words in the arse end of that song got past the RTE censors (nothing but RTE Radio, which later became RTE Radio 1 was allowed on the House Radio.) Maybe they didn't understand them, or maybe it was Mike Murphy who got away with quite a bit due to his massive popularity.

He used to think it was gas to play "Erika" by the SS Panzer Regiment

My mother learned to speak German pre-war and loved that song when it came on the radio O_o

    Greatest Basslines?

Just make a three-hour documentary about Bernard Edwards from Chic.

[Orson Welles voice] Probably the best bassline in the world.[/Orson Welles voice]

It's such a shame that Nile hardly ever shows up on our shores. 🙃

And ya wouldn't be let get yer baps out like that on the RTE Symphony Orchestra I can tell ya.
