I went with Its4Women, same benefits as GSG (both backed by AIG, practically same website). I rang 123 but weren't willing to budge which I also don't get, surely 440 to them is better than no business. Although I guess they can't prove I really have that quote unless you submit.

I'd pay 50 quid extra not to use its4women. They couldn't get our address correct despite numerous attempts to correct it then wanted my wife to fill in a form stating she had lost the documents which never arrived. Every time we contacted them it took about 48hours to get a response. You get what you pay for never again.

Wake me up when it's all over.

The piece of paper is in the window screen, hopefully won't need to contact them.

Renewal from 123.ie on my '08 520d came in at €460. No change in circumstance and no claims. Got a quote from 123 again as a new customer and was offered €337 TPFT or €408 fully comp. Opted for latter. All done inside 15 minutes this year. No way I was getting anything to beat those prices so saved myself the hassle.

Quote of 607 from AA for 151 Suzuki Swift comprehensive. No claims ever, been with that company for years. Couldn't be arsed doing the 'oh I spoke to the supervisor, here's 50 quid off ' dance so went with Outsurance for 442.

Why would you risk losing your NCB for the sake of €165 by going with Outsurance? The fact that you never had a claim is not a guarantee that you won't have one in the next 12 months. Outsurance is for risk takers & those who have zero years NCB.

Why would you lose NCB by going through another insurer? Even if out surance are a hassle to deal with your NCB stays with you for 2 years from previous insurer...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,890 ✭✭✭Gooser14

Outsurance do not provide NCB protection cover so if you have a claim against you while insured by Outsurance your NCB will be gone. Is that not the case?

Of course it you didn't have NCB protection cover with your previous insurer then insuring with Outsurance makes no difference.

Ah, I see what you mean. Strange that they don't offer it as it's statistically an easy moneymaker. The NCB protection/step back can be a bit if a pain still as it's only tied to current insurer and I know people who had their original premiums magically increase to end up not to much lower than if they didn't opt for it. Granted that was many years ago and things may have changed.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,890 ✭✭✭Gooser14

Yes, the NCB protection cover doesn't stop the insurer from increasing the basis premium but it does mean you protect the discount percentage.

I had a claim for almost €8k in 2019 at which time my discounted premium was €548. The following year my premium went up to €609. Not a huge increase. Had I not had NCB protection cover my basic cover would have increased to €1375. Since then my premium has decreased & is currently €422 with full no claims. I shop around each year but have yet to find an offer that betters that of my original insurer.

Due to losing my licence in 019 i have to go through brokers, which ends next year, my insurance is with Axa, €790 last year, this year €730, full 7 year NCB and no penalty points.

Must be the car. Mine has been roughly the same for about 5-6 years, as we have the same car. (€330-413)

I tried for a quote for a 232 Civic, and they quoted me €582, vs €334 on the 07 Civic

I got charged €68 for changing over with 6 weeks left on a policy. From a 2006 2.2d to a 2006 1.6 petrol. And now the renewal has gone from 412 to 700 odd. Allianz. Dirty frigs.

Juat did a quick scan and QuoteDevil was worse than useless. Outaurance wouldn't quote me. Its not the job, or full ncb or 27 year licence. Its got to be the car.

Outsurance the lowest for me this year and last.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,890 ✭✭✭Gooser14

I got a quote from them last year & they came in the cheapest. Being risk adverse I didn't go with them because they don't provide NCB protection cover.

Said I’d post again this year as I do most years…

    Age 29 - Driving 10+ years

    Car 2021 Mazda 3

Renewal with FBD - €790 (reduced to €720 with a phone call, still up nearly €200 on last year - changed car mid year, but current car is newer and has less power than previous car)

    Some of the highlights:

    Zurich - €660

    AA - 640

    AXA - 670

    Red Click - 534

    Allianz - €546

123.ie - €419 - went with 123 as nobody was getting next to near them this year…

didn’t try Outsurance as I’d be a bit hesitant without the NCD Protection

Leaving FBD after 5+ years as they were consistently cheaper for me in that time… not the case this time

My renewal came in from Chill/ Invernia up from €550 to €880 now I did change from a 231 ID4 to a 252 ID4 in September, (I posted then about having to pay about €180 to change) Aviva €490, FBD weren’t too far away from that as well so went with Aviva. I called Chill and told them, they knocked €30 off so told them to get on their way which was quite satisfying!

2 years ago on my own €503

Renewal with Allianz this year for both of us €430 🤝🏻 Didn't even bother shopping around

2004 Peugeot 406 HDI bought in 2004, driver 76 years old driving 50+ years, 18+ years accident free, retired, driving 10,000 km per year with no commuting.

Renewal with Aviva comprehensive cover €686.56, up from €507.76. These were the quotes I received from various insurers.

    Allianz

    415.83

    Coverinaclick

    515.00

    123.ie

    576.95

    Aviva

    686.56

    Acorn

    696.20

    AXA

    704.28

    Chill

    717.36

    Chill

    787.34

    Chill

    1410.85

Allianz figure includes a number of items at an extra cost, full NCB cover, windscreen cover, driving other cars cover, open driving for persons between 30 and 70 with a full licence and my permission, personal accident cover and cover for towing a trailer.

I bought the Allianz cover and was pleasantly surprised to be quoted by so many insurers for such an old vehicle which is my daily driver.

About Outsurance, bit of an experience with them not long back.

Long story short, shoppped around, Outsurance were the cheapest. I personally have an issue with 'commuting' being not considered part of the 'domestic' use, but they're all at it now, but we included it in the proposal.

    I digress.

Anyway, came back to them to proceed with cover. Ran through the details (again), all seemed in order, including the use for 'commuting' into Galway. We were asked for the postcode of where the car is parked during the day. Thought this was odd, but I looked it up and gave it to them anyway. That's when the 'Switch' kicked in: they said that would add €40 to the insurance. When challenged on it they said is was because of the location. Can I point out that the 'location' is inside a barriered, private, car park which we rent annually, and is off the public road, not on the street. All sorts of excuses given and when we pointed out we got quoted to include 'commuting', no postcode was asked of the employer (city centre retail, not that it's relevant anyway). We said straight up that this felt like it was a 'Bait & Switch' job - which of course, they deny. We asked therefore if we parked it in a different spot in Galway would it get a different price ? Mumbling occurred. We went further : we asked if they were penalising 'us' because of our occupation, as clearly if we worked in a different part of the city at a different job, we'd be getting a different, and maybe better, price ?

Anyway, all highly suspect to me, and I'm not convinced of the no NCB thing - time will tell in 1/2/3 years time when people want to move to other companies on how they'd get treated.

Anyway, long story short, went with one of the main players at a bit more €€€ because we felt the experience left a lot to be desired.

    YMMV, as they say.

“And my existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, generates funds to the exchequer. You don't want to acknowledge that as truth because, deep down in places you don't talk about at the Green Party, you want me on that road, you need me on that road. We use words like freedom, enjoyment, sport and community. We use these words as the backbone of a life spent instilling those values in our families and loved ones. You use them as a punch line. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the tax revenue and the very freedom to spend it that I provide, and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather you just said "thank you" and went on your way. Otherwise I suggest you pick up a bus pass and get the ********* ********* off the road”

All that over €40. How much did the "main players" charge you? My first year with Outsurance is ending in early May it'll be interesting to see what my renewal will cost, last years €324 will be hard to match.

You have a poor understanding about the risk factors that insurers take in to cosideration when deciding to accept and rate a policy. Each insuer has different criteria based on their own loss experience, in addition to the cumulative results for all insurers. It may appear odd or irrelevant to the general public, but it will have a basis in fact

I will agree that the current knowledge level within insurance call centre staff is well below what I would consider adequate for such an important subject

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,890 ✭✭✭Gooser14

That's cheap. But I wonder what it would be if you were unfortunate to have a claim against you with Outsurance not providing NCB protection cover.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,630 ✭✭✭✭CoBo55

Like them all, my premium would rise on renewal, that's the risk I'm taking, along with every other motorist who bothers to pay for insurance.

2013 Ford Focus male full licence full no claims discount renewal from Zurich €450 up from €396 last year and €330 ISH the year before car valued at €5k.

Did a new quote with Zurich using One Big Switch promo code came in at €464 for identical comp cover €360 3rd party f&t

At what point is it worth dropping comp cover for 3 rd party?
