So as the title mentions looking at a Philips Smart TV and not sure if RTE Player/ VirginMedia Player come installed, if not can they be from the Philips app site?

I read that the Philips OS, Titan I think, is quite restrictive. They opted for the own OS and not Android.

    Thanks folks!

Id be VERY surprised if they came pre-installed.

So the follow on question is can they be installed, is this TV also aimed at the Irish customer or is it only UK based so does the Philips app store only feature iPlayer etc

I have a Philips 60 inch with the os system. Couldn't get the rte player in their apps store or download it. I had a firestick anyway so used that to get it. At the price it was a good value tv so I figure it was worth it.

Tha is a bit disappointing. How about the VirginMedia app?

Yes I can use a fire stick which is a workaround. Is your 60" an ambilight version?

Yes, I don't use it though, I find it a distraction. But it has various display colours

Yes they do. I got a Philips tv last year that had the player, but it lost support a few months ago so don't count on it.

The only brands I have come across with all 3 apps, RTE, VM, TG4, are LG and Samsung, the Vestel sets generally have only RTE player and if bought here generally,in my experience, are like geolocked so the likes of C4 player can't be added.

Likewise the RTEplayer wasn't available on the firestick, some on here may know of a workaround. I had bookmarked it on Google and saved it but it was a bit tedious. I find a NOW stick handier for apps but I can't get it to work on a universal remote.

I know not related to the op's general tv question but if you have a firestick or if anyone wants to know all of the Irish apps (rte, virgin and tg4) that actually work on a firestick they can be got from downloading the Aptoide app store. It's an app store containing apps for android tv compatible devices and doesn't require Google play services to work. It currently has the most up to date versions of the apps (that have the watch live tv option) that work perfectly on firesticks

Most people may already know some of this but here's how I got them all working on mine.

Ask Alexa to "install downloader" and press get when it pops up.

Once installed go to settings on your firestick and go to my fire tv then click about and then press on fire tv stick(the first option) multiple times until it says "you are now a developer" go back a page and open developer options and turn on ABD and click on install unknown apps and turn on downloader.

Just ask Alexa to open downloader and type this in

    tv.aptoide.com

Click on the orange Download Aptoide TV icon.

You can install all the apps you want from there app store.

To save space on your stick you can uninstall the Aptoide app after you have installed the apps if you want.

I know you can ask Alexa for virgin media play and tg4 but I just installed them from Aptoide as I was there anyway getting rte player.

The channel 4 app can be got by asking Alexa to download channel 4 as the app on Aptoide is not as up to date as of posting this.
