Epic Mickey is great fun IMO. I had both games on the Wii and bought the remastered for the switch. Great value for €20 when I paid €60!

Is that gif from an opening scene of Ace Combat 6?

I played and thoroughly enjoyed Atomfall. Its a slow burner, less runny gunny than you'd expect from the trailers. Lots of talking, multiple choices that do matter, or you can just kill everyone for the craic, multiple endings, great voife acting, good story beat that makes you want to find out wtf happened. I'll never play it again, but I got my monies worth. €30 you'd get bang for your buck.

The best thing about Epic Mickey is that you know there was an Irish person working on that team sniggering to themselves every day and saying nothing.

You'd be delighted to add it to the CV in fairness.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 36,762 ✭✭✭✭Penn

I added it to my CV and I'm not even in game development.

Man it's so hard to get teaching jobs these days…

And just read they're gonna cost €80... they put some effort into it. Someone had to decide yes, say yes to the final design, etc. Not saying those people would have been developing games otherwise, but its still effort on something that deserved none whatsoever. As one comment read, "perfect way for Xbox to die out, clown shoes".

Ive never played it, but at least it was still a game, not crocs with PS buttons...

Gas stuff. Reminds me when Penneys carried some Mickey Mouse attire and there were kids t-shirts with slogans along the lines of 'I'm a fan of Mickey' or 'Mickey is my mate'.

Have started slowly tipping along with Ghost of Yotei. Enjoying it for the most part. Still far prefer combat rather than stealth, though it's a pain in the hole getting shot with arrows or bullets from off-screen because the indicator/warning for it is just "guy shouting".

The main annoyance I have is getting on the horse and the screen changes to a more cinematic one with black bars at the top and bottom and the camera zooms out a lot. Can't seem to find a setting to turn that off. It looked cool at first, but then it's just kinda pointless (I also turned off most of the camera wobble sh*te when running because I hate that in games… the character running does not mean the screen has to shake, especially in third-person view). Also the new ability to pick up some enemy weapons with R2 and throw them is cool, except when you're trying to change your own weapon/stance which also requires holding R2 to start. I also find myself skipping some of the minigame stuff for lighting a fire, cooking, painting etc. Fun uses of the Dualsense, but after the first two times it feels pointless and unnecessary. Found a coin-flicking minigame before I finished last night which uses the adaptive triggers on the Dualsense, that was pretty good.

It's decent so far though. Don't think I'll platinum it like I did with GoT though that might depend on how much busiwork is involved, maps, how engaging the side stuff is etc, but the combat is still so good.

I rolled credits on GoY a couple of nights ago and spent a few extra hours with the few remaining trophies. I've no idea if you'll be the same but the first part of the game was a bit of a slow burn before it really took off.

I really loved the game and its easily one of the games of the year for me. I thought the story was engaging and whilst it wasn't the most earth shatteringly original tale, there were enough surprises or divergences from typical video game storytelling that I enjoyed it throughout. Loved the style of the game too and it really is a visual masterclass.

Loved how each region has its own unique type of enemies which kept it fresh for me. The integration of the wolf was very enjoyable and not overplayed. And the bounties that you pick up throughout the game were great as most of them feel somewhat unique in who you're hunting down (either in story/character or style).

Press R3 when on the horse. Changes between cinematic, far and close iirc. Fantastic game, and I cleaned up as I went so had very little to mop up. But it was a joy to just explore. Beautiful game, I took a hape of screenshots which I never do.

Played the demo of Ball x Pit and liekd it enough to buy it. Only €15 so not bad. I'm 12 hours in, 2 levels left to unlock but I'm getting kinda bored of it. Would lend itself better to smaller screens too, looks grand on the C2 but could look a lot better. Would be nice to get an upgraded graphics version at some point.

LMAO saw the end theme to the old DS game Aliens Infestation doing the rounds on social media and it's truly superb. Make sure to stay until the lyrics start.

They've played that on retronauts a few times. It's pretty mental especially considering tone of the game.

Marvels cosmic invasion game is a riot, you can tell it is the same studio who did the Turtles shredders revenge game

Booted up Sektori last night and it’s glorious. Twin stick bullet hell shooter with a Gradius-style upgrade system… plus a rogue like additional upgrade system on top of that. Incredibly intense but joyously made. Pretty much essential for anyone who has lost hours to Geometry Wars, Super Stardust or Resogun over the years. One of the best games of the year IMO.

Some mixed reviews of Metroid prime 4. Eurogamer and Metro game central giving it 3 and 3.5 out of 5 respectfully. Seems like a fun game let down by stupid design decisions to try and make it more like modern dull sludge triple A games.

Pretty much the ‘good, with caveat’ response anticipated after the previews.

Actually sounds more like a classic Zelda game in its structure and story presentation than a Metroid one.

I'm mostly playing Assassins Creed Unity recently. I feel a bit bad about asking chatgtp for help with some puzzles, as the challenge (and some are very very hard) is part of the games longevity. I'll try to cut down on that.

Eurogamer pointed that out with an open world with dungeons off of it, bit like ocarina of time.

After beating Dread and currently playing Samus Returns it's bizarre that they want to shoehorn in characters and dialogue into the games.

I don’t understand why modern games can’t just have an option to turn off hints from NPCs.

It seems bizarre to put it in a Metroidvania where getting stuck and unstuck through exploration is part of the fun, so trying to decide when the player has had enough and needs some help is going to be very tricky. If a player really hits a wall there’s always the internet anyway.

More annoying still was Metroid prime had this. If you weren't progressing after a while the game would point out where you need to be. Even if you knew where to go, getting there was the hard part. And you could turn it off.

Sony games are the absolute worst where in God of war or horizon you are presented with a puzzle and before you can take it in and plan it out the NPC or inner monologue tells you the solution. It's no longer a puzzle then.

Reminds me how Soul Hackers 2 took a lot of flack for its hint system making it look like it was taking ages to load, only for one pioneer to realise they were entirely optional and could be turned off from the get go.

God of War is one thing, Horizon was even worse. At least with GoW and others there's an NPC giving you hints. With Horizon it's the character you are playing as telling you what to do. That's just egregious.
