I’m not sure about that, you’d probably need to contact them to find out.

The small & medium business number is 1800 940 062

VM Business have two ways of providing a static IP. They can provide a /32 for free, but it only works with the provided router in router mode. If you want to bridge the router, you need a /30 and they'll charge €10 per month (ex VAT) for that.

End up ordering a new bband with...Vodafone !

VM will not allow a second installation at the same postal address and, even with a business package, they cannot guarantee me a static IP4 address on the new fibre type package .

What access network are Vodafone going to use? Just be careful in case it’s Virgin FTTP as then you’d be hit with a €150 cancellation charge for Virgin if you’re in contract.

    not sure i get it…

I have Eir and VM ,suppliers using their own fibre patches from manhole inaide to my home, separate equipment.

Vodafone= new installation "installed" by their own installers, separate equipment.

Need two providers with two static IPs. Eir has it,VM said no,Vodafone said Yes (need to get it email confirmed, otherwise ten days cooling off and cancelled).

Vodafone are going to take over one of those connections unless you also have SIRO available to you.

The access networks are open eir, SIRO, Virgin FTTP, NBI.

Vodafone use all access networks to connect people. If you ring them back, they should be able to tell you which one they are going to use.

You can check which access networks are available at your address here -

Per map, i have only OpenEir and VM.I dont want to cancel / migrate any of my curent two lines !

He did checked my post code before setting up the account and emailed me the new order, told i have two lines,he said we are using our own.

I'll call Vodafone back tomorrow !

    Thank You !!!

Sorry, nothing to do with this VM...

Does anyone have any issues with getting Smart DNS type services to work for BBC iPlayer? My LG tv was working perfectly with getflix but after I changed over to VM and at same time I also swapped by netgear orbi to an eero 7 max it has stopped working.

My modem has an ipv6 address, could that be the issue I wonder?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,447 ✭✭✭NotShero

Yeah I’d say it might be connecting with IPv6. Have you set the DNS settings on the LG TV itself?

Once you have, go to Settings > General > Network > WiFi Connection or Wired Connection > Advanced Settings > Disable IPv6

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,241 ✭✭✭digiman

Yeah, the tv is set correctly and the getflix ip address has been updated after I changed to VM.

Do you mean to disable ipv6 on the VM router or the TV? I couldn’t find a way to disable it on the VM router, do I need to ask VM to disable ipv6?

No just disable IPv6 on the LG TV to see if it works first. You’d have to ask Virgin for “IPv4 only” which they may or may not do, but disabling IPv6 on the LG TV might work.

Though actually I only realised you have to enter your IP address on their websites for “Smart DNS” services and because there is CGNAT by default on Virgin FTTP, you’ll need to ask Virgin for “IPv4 only mode” yes, as I said they may or may not do it.

With CGNAT your IP address is shared so that’s the issue I would say. Asking for “IPv4 only mode” gets you your own dedicated dynamic IPv4 address.

The only other option then is to remove the Hub 5x altogether with a WAS-110 or switch ISP, if your still within the cooling off period.

You could instead get a Google TV certified box / stick or Apple TV and use a proper VPN instead -

Thanks, I’ve got an Apple TV but it does have BBC in 4k, so it’s a backup that works already for me, but having it on the tv is a much better user experience

I eventually got smartdns working by connecting my LG tv to the VM WiFi network and bypassing the eero WiFi router. I didn’t make any changes to the Lg TV, IPv6 was disabled in both scenarios.

Delighted to have gotten a work around to get it working anyway

Hi, VM left a note to say our apartment building was upgraded for fibre a few months ago but 5gb is still not listed on the website. Do you have to call them or does it eventually appear on the site for those who ordered?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,447 ✭✭✭NotShero

It still could be quite a few months before it's live afaik, but give them a ring and see what they say.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,109 ✭✭✭feargantae

Got a letter through the door from Virgin Media Wholesale to say they're upgrading their network to 10Gb in my area. I'm assuming this is more so an "up to" thing that the network is capable of. But it's crazy to think that maybe some day soon 10Gb could be available in Ireland!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,447 ✭✭✭NotShero

Yeah as it's XGS-PON it's up to 10Gb/s, i'd say the 8/10Gb option will come very soon though.

Then things will slow down as all the networks will need to upgrade the OLTs to 25G/50G PON to move past 10Gb. The fibre will remain the same though.

It's great to see Ireland having some serious speeds available. I just wish now we'd be more like our neighbours across the EU and had symmetrical upload speeds! Even half the download speed as upload would be better than what we currently have.

Hey, anyone with the 5Gbit plan, can you check if you are still getting 500mbit Upload? Mine has been apparently changed to 200mbit 😑

    Thanks!

Yea same here…. Anyone get onto them about it?

Also are people on VM's hub getting the issue? I've removed it from my setup and use a WAS110 with my UDMP. But it has been perfect since I set it up.

    EDIT**

Just got onto tech support there. Its a known provisioning issue on some devices. They are looking into it. Worth contacting them to inform them that your device is experiencing the issue so they can look at your case specifically.

Contacted them. Did some tests, they said will need to send a technician. Here I go removing WAS110 and returning Hub5x back to activity…

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 791 ✭✭✭PixelCrafter

it’ll take one of the competing infrastructural providers: OpenEir, Siro or Virgin to break the line and offer it. At the moment they’re all milking very expensive symmetric FTTP products for businesses.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 498 ✭✭tazzzZ

I dont know why they are sending a tech tbh. Since its so widespread at this point. Its defo nothing to do with your line as such. Although I am curious if it has anything to do with the WAS110 being in there.

The dude I spoke to went and spoke to others in the tech call center and they seemed to think it was a known issue. So who knows.

When you re attache your HUB let us know if it resolves the upload issue.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 498 ✭✭tazzzZ

Any joy from the tech? I was looking at my speedtest history to try pinpoint the change and it was at 200Mbs since at least the 14th. Thats when my speedtest history stops on my UDMP. I plugged my Hub5x back in to test if it gets the proper upload speeds but it doesnt.

I lost internet the day I contacted VM and assumed it was them trying to get the link to re provision at the correct upload but still the same.

Never managed to get near 5Gb on LAN, no matter how much time and miney ive thrown at it.

Have 500Mb upload with constant good time while around 1.5Gb downloads and gave up trying to improve.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 498 ✭✭tazzzZ

Good to know it is isolated about the upload issue. I remember you having the issue earlier in the thread. **** that it couldnt be resolved. I get perfect download speed to the UDMP. obviously I lose a lot of bandwidth due to IPS/IDS being turned up to max. I end up with roughly 2Gb down when I try speed tests using my web browser.

I noticed degraded upload speed over the weekend and after being contacted by a friend today who took the same package as me. I then contacted a few other fibre service users I know (South and West Dublin)and sure enough they all have degarded uploads. I have no problem with temporary changes if there is an infrasture problem but it should be communicated along with an fix ETA but there has been zero offical communication. All customers previously where getting 10% plus uploads, it's now below 5%

There has been a change somewhere in the infrasture but Virgin's customers, support staff and Technician where not made aware of this change or why.

Anyone who bought the top end packages soley for the increase in upload speeds are not recieving the package they signed up for. If you are affected by this I suggest you complain to Virgin and look for an update as to why the decision was made and how long the degraded service will be supplied to customers.

Didn't came yet, scheduled for next week. In the meantime I've tried to connect Hub5x, it didn't came online - apparently my Hub5x is not aware of the IPv4 mode and refuses to connect on DS-Lite. I'll try hard resetting it but i'm afraid of resetting IPv4 mode provisioning when I do so. Will do a day before tech comes.

    @tazzzZ @Thor @SeanPammer @digiman

Sorry for the tag but can you guys check and confirm if your upload speeds on the 5Gb have been degraded too. Mine have been cut to 200 from 500 so less than 5% up. I spoke with a virgin service engineer and he stated that was now going to be the maxium upload.

Afterwards I was speaking with Virgin customer/loyality team they don't seem to care that they have changed the upload speed to less than 50% of what it was because it's more than the 50 up they gaurantee.
