Does anyone know if GEY is due back anytime soon.

Seems to be in the south of France since July 14th, so I presume it had maintenance done and is now probably in storage.
Or is it’s further pending on those 2 x A330’s possible coming back into the main fleet from Manchester should that base close.

Do we know when the new route announcement is due?

Cork depends on return of 4th based. I assume the current 3 were fully utilized last summer.

Yes more or less, I think there was some downtime on Monday when neither BOD/BIO operated. And on Sunday the AM departure to ACE wasn't until 8am. So I guess with a bit of juggling they could squeeze an extra couple of rotations out of the two.

I would be surprised if the 4th based returns next summer, probably in S27. As TheBetsy said previously there was a bit out downtime on Mondays and Sundays. If they do add something, possibly run on a W pattern?

I’d be surprised too, I doubt it will get the 4th this summer, especially if they are going to be down an a320 with -DEG most likely scrapped

Anyone know what's the story with EI200 to Manchester. It's operated a few days recently but doesn't seem to be on sale, and usually departs around the same time as EI204. It's an XLR this morning but it was an A330 a couple of times during the week. Doesn't seem to be a positioning flight as it returns to Dublin.

Its to move passengers to from Manchester to get around strike action there

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,829 ✭✭✭john boye

    Ah right that makes sense.

Might all be worthless at this stage but Aer Lingus UK maintained relatively good loads in September at 75% which is level with the same month last year on a slight increase in the number of flights offered.

The pilot strike doom and gloom “no more aircraft for Dublin” didn’t last long when the strike ended. Same will eventually happen in Manchester.

Cabin Crew in MAN have been served notice of base closure.

With the rumours that QR want EI to take over the DUB-DOH route combined with EI-GEY not being seen in quite a while…it might be true.

I can't imagine EI being able to meaningfully compete against EY/EK for connecting traffic to Australasia.

For that reason alone I can't see QR giving up their DOH route.

I develop Superior Solitaire when I'm not procrastinating on boards.ie.

I don't disagree, but they’ve had Finnair do similar in recent years. EI would feed DOH on a QR booking, QR (or someone else) would take you onwards.

it is very interesting. As for GEY, it seems to be in storage down in Perpignan since mid July. It’s future would seem to be unclear for a few reasons. It’s not owned by EI and they only get charged if it’s used. I think it’s further will be determined should the Manchester base go ahead and close because then those 2 A330’s will get integrated back into the core fleet

@KB77 they’ll need all the 330’s including GEY they can get, with the added frequency to JFK/BOS out of SNN/DUB, Nashville, Orlando frequency with addition of Raleigh-Durham, taking up lots of the 321’s, 330’s will be all flying

Wasn't GEY planned as a 'hot spare' for next summer? It would do some minimal flying but otherwise sit around as a back up until returning to the lessor some point later in the year. If not, and it's leaving before summer, have they really been paying for an aircraft to sit around in storage all this time since its heavy maintenance just to never use it again?

I was under the impression the current planned summer schedule is covered fleet-wise, the two additional XLRs providing the boost. Was GEY included in that too?

If MAN closes before next summer that's two additional A330s they need to find work for, or one if GEY was planned to be used and will now be leaving instead.

S26 requires 12, they have 13 with GEY. Only two slots within 12 are free.

YYZ returns to A330 for S26.

GEY might just be staying in Perpignan until needed. Cheaper to park than DUB.

If MAN closed and GEY goes that would be like S25 in terms of capacity on hand. I do think two free A330 daily is a lot.

Heard Cork will likely get somthing to southen Europe (not previously served). It should complement one of the routes added last year.

Based on last year, hopefully they might be announced over next 2 weeks.

DUB might get minimum 3 routes but usual caveats apply.

GEY under went base Maintenace C check and then its engines during this time have been given one to an EI 330 and one to an Iberia 330 meanwhile, the hot spare was in reference to this summer’s schedule but they opted to give it a fresh C, as capacity arrived with XLR’s, nothing mentioned for S26 regarding this, the new routes and extra daily flights with the A321’s are mentioned since but they also haven’t finished the 2026 scheduled for Europe so maybe you could see a A321LR flying around on busy routes such I.e mid day ACE/TFS/AGP , 330-200/300 doing the flight to the states with demand during summer schedule at some point such as GEY/G-EILA/G-EIDY, rumoured 4 new routes to be announced in Europe, as there is no increase in 320’s for next summer

the late ORD is going to an 321 XLR in march 26, allowing capacity for another 330 elsewhere

it’s always good anyway to have one hot spare during peak summer with aircraft going AOG to avoid rebooking, even Etihad is accelerating its widebody strategy with the reactivation of additional A380s—𝘀𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗻 𝗶𝗻 𝘀𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗶𝗰𝗲 𝘁𝗼𝗱𝗮𝘆, 𝘁𝘄𝗼 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗶𝗻 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗮 𝘁𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗵 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗲𝗱 𝗮𝘀 𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝘀𝗽𝗮𝗿𝗲

I believe GEY is on a power by the hour lease, so EI only pay when it is in use (excluding parking charges etc) which is an absolutely ideal situation for a spare airframe.

Years ago when the original lease to EI was signed, the lessor (Castlelake I think) likely envisaged the airframe being converted to a freighter around now, but the market for freighters has since shifted; they generally max out on volume/space rather than weight now due Amazon/Alibaba/Temu etc. packages being so light on average. As such, the A333 is a far more attractive conversion nowadays and with limited facilities able to do this conversion, A332s are less worth spending this money on.

Everything depends on what the leasing contract says but it might not be possible to just "drop" GEY even if the two MAN 330s are coming home without punitive penalties owed to the lessor.

The late DUB ORD is showing as a 333 for the summer. The 321 is operating it for two weeks just in March

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 724 ✭✭✭Nibs05

EIK also has issues, it’s had a high flight cycle, can only fly certain times I understand.

A few months ago I heard a rumour that both Madrid and Lisbon were being looked at.

They have done Lisbon previously so if it’s a city not served before from ork then it could be Madrid

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 258 ✭✭TheBetsy

They actually did serve Madrid previously in the 00's so maybe not that either?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21 KB77

that’s interesting, thank you. if it’s happening we should here about it soon enough. When I here of southern Europe I think of the likes of Malta etc

  • Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 4,355 Mod ✭✭✭✭Locker10a

Or could it be Santiago to compliment Bilbao.

Relative shorty flight time too, easy to slot into the schedule

Something to think about and hopefully it happens, but EI might need to add serious capacity next summer if Ireland reach the world cup. Now it's a long way off yet, but hire ins etc might have to be considered.

Just a thought given the conversation above about what frames are where for summer 26
