I would say that it's the consequence of masses of people worshipping one of the worst human beings of all time as a god. My Dad does this though he'd struggle to find the US on a map and has no idea who JD Vance is.

I dont know what people think life in the US is like right now but the vast majority of people dont spend any of their time talking about trump and politics. Literally none. Shocking to some I know.

I can't believe you actually posted it. The US is on the road to full blown fascism and you genuinely don't think people are talking about politics at home, at work, in social settings or at protests and events?

The wide array of political satire shows like The Daily Show and Last Week Tonight alone would disprove this rather silly comment.

Feel free to provide proof that "literally none" are talking about politics though.

Trump's lasted efforts in pursuit of Project 2025 see him looking to strike a whole host of careers from the list of "professional" jobs. This matters when it comes to being able to access financial aid to pay for education.

    Included in the group are

    Nursing

    Physician assistants

    Physical therapists

    Audiologists

    Architects

    Accountants

    Educators

    Social workers

These jobs just coincidentally happen to be fields with high numbers of women, and also ones that are mandatory reporters for child abuse.

They didn't even say to disobey them, but to seek legal clarification or representation if you think an order is illegal

Absolutely untrue for the dozens I know. But hear this nonsense regularly from maga types.

What part of the US do you live that nobody is talking about it?

Agree to it by Thanksgiving Day is some next level stupid sh*t, even by Trump’s standards.

The recent No King's protests would suggest that it is very much a talking point.

But even is we take your point as reality, isn't that deeply troubling that in a democracy the vast majority of people aren't the slightest bit interested.

'The price of freedom is eternal vigilence ' would appear to he have completely forgotten in the US.

If the majority of people really don't care then they deserve to lose everything as they clearly don't value it.

You contradict yourself in one sentence right there. Impressive.

I had a US friend here in Ireland recently and she did not want to talk about it, but it was because she was on holiday and was so totally stressed out by the situation she wanted a break from having to deal with it. From the little she did say I gather that this was how her circle of friends were dealing with it, they felt helpless and depressed and churning it all over again and again was not helping. I think if it affected me directly - if I lived there - I would feel the same.

By all accounts the Turkeys are having a hard time raising the $2m in needed to buy the Thanksgiving pardon.

I work with my tonnes of Americans, plenty of them have voiced concern to me about Trump. Equally I have a pretty large US family and plenty of them discuss Trump and are deeply concerned. So I'm calling bullshit on that tbh.

The dissatisfaction caused by the U.S Coastguard decision to lower the restriction level accorded to those devices had an effect in senior office levels there. Following is a Coastguard update from two media sources…

WASHINGTON — The U.S. Coast Guard has released a new, firmer policy addressing the display of hate symbols like swastikas and nooses just hours after it was publicly revealed that it made plans to describe them as “potentially divisive” — a term that prompted outcry from lawmakers and advocates.

“Divisive or hate symbols and flags are prohibited,” the latest Coast Guard policy, released late Thursday, declared before adding that this category included “a noose, a swastika, and any symbols or flags co-opted or adopted by hate-based groups.”

“This is not an updated policy but a new policy to combat any misinformation and double down that the U.S. Coast Guard forbids these symbols,” an accompanying Coast Guard press release said.

The late-night change came on the same day that media outlets, led by The Washington Post, discovered that the Coast Guard had written a policy earlier this month that called those same symbols “potentially divisive.” The term was a shift from a years-long policy, first rolled out in 2019, that said symbols like swastikas and nooses were “widely identified with oppression or hatred” and called their display “a potential hate incident.”

The latest policy that was rolled out Thursday night also unequivocally banned the display of any divisive or hate symbols from all Coast Guard locations. The earlier version stopped short of banning the symbols, instead saying that commanders could take steps to remove them from public view and that the rule did not apply to private spaces outside of public view, such as family housing.

Personally speaking, I'd say the decision of a uniformed branch of the U.S military to lower the effective ban on the devices concerned probably rang out loudest when relatives of camp survivors and victims living in the U.S heard/read about it, given that the device was worn by the persons putting the boot into them.

So Fox News is broadcasting to absolutely nobody?

When I lived in the US, I noticed that people didn't discuss politics openly with people unless they felt comfortable with that person, or there were in a situation (a march etc) where politics were the core focus and so motivated people of each side to voice their opinion. Like if you were talking to someone in a waiting room or wherever, it would not be brought up.

My company even had some mandatory training on how to avoid being involved in discussions on sensitive topics such as politics and religion and not only how to not start them, but how to end them without offending the other person. And this was for avoiding such discussions both in side and outside the company as in with colleagues, suppliers, clients etc. I always found this training funny in the Land of the Free and which claims to be such a proponent of Free Speech but in what is a very polarized country (Politics/Religion/Race) where people feel very strongly about their own allegiance, I can see why they did it. In my time there, I didn't once hear an open conversation about politics in the office but a couple of the people I was friends with would then discuss them in depth outside the office in a personal environment.

And everyone I ended up being close enough with for them to open up about such topic showed that politics was very much on their mind. And I'm met and was friends with Republicans and Democrats (and one Libertarian) So I'm pretty sure the vast majority of people in the US have an opinion on Trump and politics in general, but that doesn't mean they are discussing it openly.

In day to day real life, no they aren't. Internet forums and talk shows aren't real life. In work, out and about, at the bar etc, people tend not to talk about stuff like that. At the family dinner table maybe but probably not if it's a large gathering with people of different political persuasions. Obviously at a protest they would since that's the whole point of being there but plenty of people would walk past and keep their heads down without engaging. The "literally none" applies to time people spend talking about it on a daily basis, not that literally no people are. Just that it's not the hot topic and source of constant discussion for the vast majority of people that people on here seem to think

"No one talks about it" is the new "I'm not a Trump fan but"

At the family dinner table maybe

But that still suggests that you acknowledge that most people are discussing this and paying attention. That's different to your earlier post.

Talking about Trump is actually barred in some relatives homes, doesn't mean they don't talk about the effects of the cult.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 44,414 ✭✭✭✭ancapailldorcha

They are talking about it though. I'd say it's the overwhelming majority of people as well.

Love him or loathe him, surely everyone could agree that he's probably generated more media content than any other human being currently living.

Maybe they just don't talk to him 🤷‍♂️

Barring it is talking about it. Only proves how big a topic it is due to its inflammatory nature.

I was on the phone to my opposite number in the US yesterday and it was he who brought Trump into the conversation. He wasn't very complimentary about his president.

In the same way Germans try to avoid talking about WW2

we have a family group with some US members and it is completely banned because otherwise we will all fall out. It’s so divisive it’s beyond discussion.

This Russian peace plan is just a huge 'look over there' distraction from domestic issues in America
