I am shocked that the Russians have been lying about their advances

Seems like Pokrovsk has faded from the news now. I want to remind all good people that Putin wanted the whole of Pokrovsk area taken by November 15th and that three weeks ago Pokrovsk, as told by the Russian Ministry of Defense, was almost fully surrounded and ready to fall in days, thousands of Ukrainian soldiers were to be taken prisoner, etc, etc.

Pokrovsk holds. I am not sure if holding it is the best strategy, but at least it shows that even with enormous efforts, Russia still cannot take this small city since July 2024.

Denis Davydov saying the Russians are failing to encircle Pokrovsk.

Sky News analyst Michael Clarke says he believes we are headed for a major breakdown between the US and Europe over Ukraine. Says he expected it to happen last Summer but now it may actually happen.

Clarke says that what Russia was telling the West it wanted in 2021 was not only about Ukraine, but also that Russia wanted limits on the freedom of action of a number of countries on Russia's eastern borders. That can only mean, in my opinion, the Eastern European EU and NATO member states.

That is unacceptable. And shows that Trump considers Europe to be vassals of both the US and Russia. Council President Antonio Costa (ex Portuguese PM) and Commission President Ursula von der Leyen just had a press conference and say Europe wasnt consulted so they cannot comment on what has been announced by the US and Russia. But also said "nothing about Ukraine without Ukraine".

If a guy like Ledwidge is saying this ,given his background I think its fair to say things are very bleak

Sounds like he got a phone call from Trump and was told to put a positive spin on the capitulation - sorry, peace - plan

Is that analysis correct. If so most commentators in the West have either been unintentionally delusional or instead deliberately deluding us.

Ex Reform UK in Wales leader Nathan Gill being sentenced now for accepting Russian bribes. Sky News is showing the sentencing now.

His activities included making pro-Russian statements about events in Ukraine in the European Parliament and in opinion pieces to news outlets, such as 112 Ukraine.

“He said that he was travelling to Russia by invitation to attend a scientific conference in Moscow and that he had been invited to act as an observer in the Russian state Duma elections in the middle of that month.

“He also said that he had performed the same role on two previous occasions,” the prosecutor said.

Gill’s mobile phone was examined and messages were found between him and Oleg Voloshyn, 44, a pro-Russian Ukrainian government official before 2014.

Mr Heywood said: “The communications between the two men showed that an established relationship existed between them.”

WhatsApp messages between the pair included references to “promised x-mas gifts”, “postcards” and “5K” which was a reference to payments, he said.

After speaking from a script at one debate, Voloshyn told him: “Impressive… you are the perfect orator”, the court was told.

Leaked files show Russia's plan for aggression against more European countries.

Small DRG groups now at the outskirts of Hryshyne north west of Pokrovsk. Southern part of Myrnohrad mostly under control after video footage was shown from the mine captured last week.

Every term of the draft is a disgrace.

Corrupt Trump is looking for a distraction, any distraction, to his failing presidency and potential criminal involvement with Epstein.

We've seen more of it today with this nonsensical bullcrap below from the US state department.

Honest to God, the European block needs to tell Trump that if his only strategy is to sell Ukraine down the river, he should be told by all Europe to butt out and f**k off.

There is a corruption scandal in Ukraine but we have had corruption in Ireland and that wiuld not have justified invading and occupying us, let alone the attrocities Russia has committed in Ukraine. Russia is 154th on Transparency International's Corruption Perceptions Index. Scott Lucas (video below) says that Zelensky was elected to fight corruption and "to an extent he says, but only to an extent".

Scott Lucas yesterday said that Erik Prince (formerly of Blackwater - the mercenaries Bush hired in Iraq when president) spoke to Witkoff and this contributed to the path to this proposed deal. Also says Jared Kushner is one of those supportive of the proposals.

I support aspects of DEI that increase freedom from discrimination for citizens of minority backgrounds, but I strongly oppose versions of DEI that are about spreading theories of "White Privilege" also known as Critical Race Theory. There may be White Privilege in the US, but Ireland has no history of slavery or segregation based on skin colour. We have a similar history to many non White and White colonised people who were driven off our land, segregation, state induced famines, cultural genocide like suppression of the Irish language, Penal Laws against Catholics before 1829 etc.

CRT has contributed to the rise of Trump for the resentment it has caused.

I do welcome the debate on DEI but I am not deluded that Trump is only interested in going after the excesses. This administration is opposed to anti discrimination laws, except for when conservatives of the MAGA kind feel discriminated against in Kim Davies types of cases (a non existent right to deny marriage licenses to gays).

A Caudron Report to cover up the mess of a new "Istanbul" you were getting so excited about?

Since you are so kind to offer this sort of screening service for the Russians, perhaps your kindness can be extended to help explain why it is OK for the Russians to bomb children in the homes and schools? Surely you have an explaination that can exhonorate the old "RF"? Would you like to give it a shot?

Or perhaps silence can continue deliver a clear message about the moral standing of the "Orks"…and their fans….

Reports EU officials scrambling to call crisis summit on this in the next few days . Were in danger of becoming spectators as America and Russia decide our borders.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 1,898 ✭✭✭Apiarist

A crisis summit to voice concerns about not being consulted? Nobody is going to take Europe seriously, unless the EU takes a serious action. By serious I mean something that really helps Ukraine to defend itself.

No need to go all in and send soldiers to Pokrovsk. Just do what Ukraine always asked. Close the skies over Ukraine, shoot drones and missiles coming from Russia, send planes into Ukraine to patrol the sky and to shoot any Russian planes (the last one is theoretical, as no Russian planes were seen over Ukraine is years). That would show Russia that the EU must be consulted. Not another crisis summit.

Relax Ozy, this is just another chapter in the BS production that Donnie's people let themselves be a part of every couple of months. Ukraine aren't going to accept a Kremlin-written "Peace Deal" like this and Europe will continue to back them up. We've been here a couple of times already.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,852 ✭✭✭Wolf359f

You have to be realistic, no EU/European country is going to start shooting down Russian planes over Russia or attacking SAM sites within Russia.

That is what would be required in order to close the skies. If that country is in NATO, article 5 can't be called upon if Russia retaliates.

It's just pie in the sky stuff.

Lots of concerned posters. Russia pushing for a peace plan… all sounds to me like Russia is in deep doo doo… also selling off their national gold reserves.

Yeah seeing a lot of concern here, legitimate or otherwise.

This deal is a nothingburger. It's DOA. Ukraine are not going to accept it and neither should they. Europe will not force Ukraine to accept any of that ridiculousness, it was designed to be unacceptable. EU states may as well commit seppuku if we gave in on any of that Russian wishlist. Any sensible amendments(and nearly the entire document would need to be amended) will be rejected by Putin. Then the whole thing starts over.

The only question that remains is whether Donny will cut off the PURL initiative or lift the recent sanctions he put on Russian oil. The EU is paying billions of dollars into US pockets for weapons and surveillance so we'll see if TACO strikes again once the counterproposal is in.

This was leaked by Russia right now because of energy sector corruption scandal in Zelensky's government and the sketchy situation in Pokrovsk in order to pressure Ukraine more. And because the rotting pumpkin pig is looking for any distraction from his upcoming kid fiddling scandals. It's not a negotiation for peace its a tool of war. A propaganda move.

Going by history we'll be back where we were 2 weeks ago in the 2 weeks from now. If I'm wrong and its different this time round then so be it. Ukraine still can't be force to surrender. Which is what this document is.

His analysis is so bleak it warrants a review of his bank accounts to check for any unexplained credit transfers lately. The TLDR version is "Ukraine is out of options" (he repeated that so often in the interview that it sounded like his personal mantra.

IF, and it's a very big if, Agent Kraznov manages to force Zelensky to sign even a watered down version of this "deal", it virtually guarantees decades of paramilitary fighting in Ukraine.

Military / political analyst on Sky News saying his second year students at uni could have produced a better peace plan, suggesting it is 'unbelievably amateurish' and full of contradictions.

Maybe I missed it but the only concessions I can see from Russia is that they mightn't invade Ukraine again in the future?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,447 ✭✭✭brickster69

Flags raised in Kupyansk as those Ukrainian troops who could leave on the western side have mostly done so. Those on the other side of the river have no option but to surrender now. Amazing that just a couple of weeks ago we were told by Zelensky that only 60 Russian troops were left and mopping up was underway.

Could be propaganda like, you never really know who to believe do you ?

It is the most realistic plan, actually. Turkey shot down Russian jet coming from Syria. The result? Russia huffed and puffed, then shut its gob and was very careful not to provoke Turkey after that. Russian mercenaries tried to take over a site in Syria and tens or hundreds of them were wiped by Americans. The result? Russia denied all involvement.

Putin understands only direct action. He folds when confronted with force. If the EU shows its teeth, then Putin will treat it with respect, and you will see him squirming trying to appease the EU.

If the EU continues to avoid direct action to punish Russia, there will be more and more hybrid war escalations in the EU itself. Trains bombed, airports closed because of drones, underwater cables cut, hacker attacks, assassinations and so on.

Turkey shot down a Russian fighter jet some years ago in its airspace.

this putin plan simply rewards russia for invading their neighbour - it will only have them licking their lips for more - who will be next moldova, khazakstan or european countries like latvia with its large russian population

with absolution for war crimes thrown in to boot surely this violates the terms of the international criminal court

this is somewhat like hitler being appeased in ww2

Citing two sources familiar with the matter, Reuters highlights two factors:

    Washington wants a framework of the deal signed by Thanksgiving, which is next Thursday (27 November);

The US is threatening to withhold intelligence and weapons as part of pressure on Kyiv.

Russia is denying knowledge of this plan. Could be smoke and mirrors again.

Also Kremlin propagandist Maria Zakharova spreading conspiracy theories about Irish neutrality being for the chop.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,711 ✭✭✭Virgil°

Of course they are. They want it presented as the "US peace plan" so when Ukraine\Europt turns it down they'd really be rejecting Trump and not Putin's demands.

Seems like the US is pressuring Ukraine with cutting weapons and intel unless its signed quickly now too. Europe better be ready to stand its ground here. That sh*t hasn't been flowing for free since Trump got in. We are paying for it all.

The fcuking state of that tweet. If that's where you get your news updates you can be safely ignored…

I think, and this is a danger for those who believe Russian is about to collapse as most as those who believe Ukraine is about to collapse, that any expert voice that you don't agree with is a Putin Puppet or a NATO mouthpiece. Ledwidge has a strong pro Western /NATO pedigree. I think he said he was in Ukraine very recently. Reuters now reporting the U.S saying they may cut off arms ,Intel if Ukraine don't move towards a peace deal

Have you considered that maybe the US have an actual proper understanding of what is going on at the moment ?

I must admit, considering the US has been the main instigator of this problem going back decades, it's sickening to see them acting the as a neutral peacemaker and trying to be the good guy and gain from this. Europeans just jumped aboard the Biden express when most of them knew deep down it was not a good idea.

The Europeans and Biden should of made some sort of effort at diplomacy though, at least pick up the phone.
