It was weird. The long wait in the cold and the fact the gig was a glorified rehearsal, with tech issues and playing issue thrown in, meant it took a while to get going. Kevin did say they'd only been together three days I think? Thought both the band and the crowd hit their stride in the last half hour. Looking forward to Saturday.

Loads of technical and sound issues. I swear KS was figuring out bits during some songs to remember them again. He didn't seem happy all rehearsal (it wasn't a show that's for sure).

When it was good it's was amazing . Looking forward to Saturday now too.

Yeah it wasn't a finely tuned band, lots of tech problems and restarts of songs, a couple of songs that sounded shyte but there were some real high moments in there - when it was hitting highs it was very good. I didn't find it too loud at all. I'm looking forward to Saturday.

yeah same feelings, queue was a joke, one tiny door letting people in, open the other door and hire an extra body ffs, i enjoyed the set, i thought the setlist was stellar, though K was being a bit of a diva, dropped one of my faves when he didnt like the sound, yeah, its a warm up but theres a paying audience… though his anctics were too much, the others were like wtf as well, a lot of work to do before saturday!!

In the queue for an hour, was just delighted to get into some warmth. Most definitely a 'work in progress'. Thought Kevin was grand and in good form tbh. He said he hadn't played in seven years and had three days practice. I took my earplugs out halfway through the first song and they stayed in my pocket for the rest of the gig. I'm sure they had an ex-Masterchef winner on keys and extra guitar! Also, it was nice to be able to see who was playing what on stage. Overall it was ok but they definitely need to up their game for Saturday.

Queuing was a disaster, rare to see that level of incompetency at a gig these days. Really enjoyed the show, thought it sounded fantastic, glitches not withstanding.

I thought it was great, took the stopping and starting as to be expected, great to see them up close after so long. Colm in flying form and Kevin had some good banter and wit despite the increasing trouble with his equipment.

Lovely sound level, Absolutely no need for earplugs, mix was pretty good where i was just in front of the sound desk, bit disappointed that the jumbo jet section of Realise wasn't longer but it was never going to top what they did at Electric Picnic in 2008, so...ditto to here knows when..

shambolic re entry to venue, you could say they went on later than they might have due to waiting for the venue to fill but knowing them they probably would have come on at exactly the same time even if the venue was full an hour before hand

i was very happy anyway (i love the national stadium, had so many great gigs there)

Was at Billy Strings in the Stadium a few weeks ago and the queue was down to Leonards Corner so it wasnt just last night.

Did Shields really say he hadn’t played in 7 years and they only started rehearsing 3 days ago? Saturday will be a disaster if that’s true

I heard it as they hadn't played in seven years and hadn't rehearsed for three days. As in their last rehearsal would've been at the weekend. Could be wrong though

It's a bit mad when you realise (no pun intended) that Bilinda Butcher is 64, Shields is 62, Colm is 61, and Debbie is 62. And there they are, making this mad loud crazy music.

I already have hearing loss in my left ear so there was no way I was leaving my earplugs out for that gig. I found it insanely loud and I wasn't risking my right ear for it. The queue gave me the chance for a catch up chat with the brother so didn't mind it too much although it was bitter out. The gig was as I expected in terms of some stopping and starting. When they got into it, they sounded fantastic. I'm glad I got to see them in a smallish venue and it's a band I've always had an interest in seeing ticked off the list but I wouldn't have any real interest in seeing them again.

Pete Kember and Jason Pierce both hit 60 yesterday.

Note to anyone expecting to take the Luas on Saturday - it's still out of action between Connolly and the Point.

There is a replacement bus from Connolly but lots of people unfamiliar with the area will probably all head for it, so it'll likely be jammed. Probably better off trying one of the normal bus routes.

I was over the left side all evening but sometimes go to the right side towards the end for a quick exit and bathroom visit if needed at the top of these steps in the stadium. You can get a great side almost facing the crowd view. Someone grabbed a pic of just some of the guitars he used last night. The poor guitar tech had his work cut out alright never mind the sound engineer.

Yeah, i don't think i'd seen so many guitars around a stage since the days of Sonic Youth.

    and

    https://www.hotpress.com/music/kevin-shields-objects-to-noisy-neighbourhood-2846673

'Angered by the existing noise levels, the ex-My Bloody Valentine man told his local paper, the Camden New Journal: “As a musician I really object to being forced to listen to music I don’t like while someone else makes money. The worst are Dido remixes.“It’s a classic case of they don’t give a damn. When I built a studio in Camden I spent £70,000 getting it soundproofed. They pump their music out at 120 decibels.”'

was great to hear "Honey Power" off the Tremelo EP… a personal favourite

i thought the other night was like something out of Spinal Tap - the unnecessary earplugs and walls of amps and guitars, the massive sound desk …. The queue beforehand was ridiculous, whilst Kevin was uninspiring- comparing the quiet crowd to a Japanese one. They have a hired gun in to beef up the offering (guitar and keyboards ), but musically it was very poor. I really hope tomorrow night goes well, but God almighty, lads get it together.

Is their legacy a bit overestimated? Even Loveless ?

I sold my ticket for Saturday night, thanks for the memories mbv :)

It was a hastily organised glorified rehearsal in a decrepit old venue, I'll give them the benefit of the Saturday gig before deciding if Loveless is overrated.

The band aren't responsible for the Stadium's inability to organise a píss up in a brewery

    Dump of a venue.

And a good or bad live performace has nothing to do with a band's legacy

    Clear you're on the wind-up.
