I looked into the technical side, won’t bore yous with the details (unless you want to!) but I’m struggling to see how Wi-Fi calling could work for them at the moment. The usual tests don’t work.

I asked customer service and this is what they said!, I told them it was posted on the official 48 account on Instagram

"Thank you for waiting, just to inform you we don't support WiFi calling, and this add shows many incorrect information about 48."

"Yes, I totally understand your concern on this there is different between unlimited calls and 5000 minutes calls. On the advertisement you can see both are mention which is false advertisement."

The ePDG server (used for Wi-Fi calling) uses a standard domain name:

    epdg.epc.mncYYY.mccXXX.pub.3gppnetwork.org

If the phone has no carrier file, or the server isn't specified in the carrier file, this domain is used as a fallback. This is why Wi-Fi calling worked for some phones on Sky even before they released carrier files. IIRC, 272-11 is the 48 MCC-MNC (shared with Tesco Mobile). epdg.epc.mnc011.mcc272.pub.3gppnetwork.org doesn't resolve to a valid IP address, so that wouldn't work. If you lookup the Vodafone, Eir or Sky MCC-MNCs in the format above, you'll see them resolve to IPs within their respective networks.

However, Three don't use this standard for some reason, they use epdg.three.ie as the ePDG domain name instead. This means that you need to have a Three Ireland carrier file in order for Wi-Fi calling to work on Three. Since 48 don't have any carrier files, they can't use a non-standard domain.
