no new threads...

… I really wonder: there are almost no new threads, maybe one or two a week? but a lot of posts everyday in always the same, for years going threads…very weird, how come people post but are only interested in the same lame stuff: what annoys you , what makes you happy and so on. Human beings need to discuss the every day new upcomimg topics and that's how it was, let's say still 6 years ago. That's what After hours was for, and on the humorous and lighthearted side. Now it's all very serious, post like specific intersections should be mandatory fitted with special lamps…wtf? This is not AH.

Also, it's mainly always the same posters posting in every thread.

Anybody for answers?

You could start one yourself, plus a kind of snarky element has crept into AH in the past couple of years, and a slightly nasty element who is mainly interested in what happened to such and such journo or minor celeb. I think that puts posters off.

thanks for that. Yes, I was thinking of opening one or even more, but then exactly what you described here hold me off…and every thread has to be dragged into some pc discussion ending up people accusing/justifying themselves.

seems there's nobody left from the real and decent people here.

but where are they all?

Oh and the mods have made up something called a 'threadban' which no forum software has ever felt the need to implement because most forums let threads die a natural death.

I pisses me off to see a thread that looks interesting on the homepage and then to click in and realise I've been ckickbaited by a title that was relevant 8 years ago e.g. the Big drop in heating oil one

Last one I started was about the Dutch election result. I was hoping people with more knowledge of Dutch politics would post but it kind of died out. Why, possibly because there's not a lot of people who are that familiar with the subject or because it's a bad-news story for the anti-EU, anti-migrant types? Probably a bit of both.

If I feel the urge I will start another.

They don't die a natural death because the type of posters that have been encouraged are obsessed. They'd argue with a rock that up is down. They'll repeat the same argument in every thread regardless of title.

let's face it, this site is nothing more but one big propaganda tool like all the other medias be it TV, 'newspapers', Netflix, you name it to stir the society in the 'right' direction. Additionally to promote/introduce mainly new tech/data stuff to get the mass surveillance going. Here's some example to bring up the need for dashcams like from the poster 'litlefeet', who funnily posted here some minutes ago..https://www.boards.ie/discussion/2058423354/dash-cam-for-every-car#latest surely prices and models being thrown around…but nooo, no advertising it at all…

that's one thing, but I really wonder where are all the nice, decent, posters gone? because everybody is banned, fed up with it and left for good, right? But where are they? sitting at home, watching netflix ? or playing playstation. pubs are mainly closed also, or too expensive and everybody afraid to say something regarded as one 'wrong opinion' and get canceled from friends/society, right? woa, what a world this has become in a timeframe of only 6 years. 'well done' the real scum is thinking.

There is very little engagement now on most areas of the site. I think it has become very noticeable over the past few months, even over and above the general decline that occurred after the Vanilla switch a few years ago. A lot of the big threads are just chains of individual posts on a common topic but with little interaction or discussion. Just very recently I have noticed 4/5 prolific regular posters are site banned too, whatever has gone on.

alright. next to a politics forum there it belongs, yes. but you mentioned another thing, this site is, as I experience it the last years, most probably just working with AI. Be it opened threads, posts and 'moderation'. And threads which are 'not wanted' will get no answers, no posts. That's it, so they 'die down'. Next thing this will happen with this thread or it will be deleted in a few minutes I would say…nothing which should be written from real people in this new out in the open full ravaging like never before Stasi/Gestapo/1984 world, you name it..or it's shadowbanned anyway, perfidious methods are endless…but, noooo, wait it's all my paranoia, there's no AI operating, I'm making all this up…waiting for this to to be written from someone..😅🤣

There are posters on this site with tens of thousands of post who rarely/never start a thread but are In Like Flynn with snark and sneers when someone else starts a thread. "Attack the OP" has become even worse than it used to be. Cowardly keyboard warriors stalk the site looking to be the first one to put the boot in and harvest as many Thanks as possible. That then adds meaning to their pathetic lives but it kills the site.

I don't think it's quite as bad as that, but nearly. My favorite are the posters who are busy trying to shoehorn their particular cranky obsession onto posts that have nothing to do with their obsession slight free pass if they are not nasty, even they have greatly diminished in number.
