Would you want to have honour of teeing off first on the 18th? I'd rather go second if I was Rory. And that's the way it is.

And he puts it in the water. No need this time for the big dog

    He f*cked it again

And that's the end of that. Rory in the water it seems. They were saying on commentary that the wind picked up as Rory was taking his tee shot. It probably made the difference.

Good chance a par will tie the hole

Fitzpatrick with another massive break. He could have gone in the water himself with his second shot.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 22,896 ✭✭✭✭sligeach

No pressure on Fitzpatrick, huge break for his 3rd. Rory will do well to get up and down for par from the bunker.

But wow, Fitzpatrick makes a mess of his 3rd shot.

That was a shocker from Fitzy

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 22,896 ✭✭✭✭sligeach

The poor shots from Rory take the pressure off Fitzpatrick. He finally gets one of his 4 shots right.

Lost to a par, but OOM no 7.

Monty looking over his shoulder now

That's that. From eagle to bogey for Rory on 18. Very anticlimactic.

Rory doing Rory things, surely no8 will keep him focused next season; he'll want that record

Unbelievable stuff again from Rory this week, his consistency is amazing. Outside of Tiger he's by an absolute mile the greatest I've seen.

So stenson has applied for his European tour membership back. If it was me I’d tell him to go earn his spot back by playing on a lower tour. He couldn’t care about the tour so you’ve made your bed so you can sleep in it now

Puig rejoins tour and wins first event of the season

Some someone finds value in paying dj to turn up in Dubai desert classic. He’s done very little in recent times and find it strange someone thinks he’s worth a pay day. I wonder are Liv looking to get their players some ranking points to help boost their events with they get owgr approval

Not much of that matters in Golf....it's all about the names and stories. People will watch him and like myself included will watch Vijay at the Sony this week.

Funny hearing the comms saying it’s cold in Dubai. Must be terrible to put a jumper on. Come back here and they’ll know what cold is.

Dustin with a MC. There’s a player who’s happy to stay at liv as he’ll struggle to retain a tour card on pga the way he’s playing

    I've been wearing four lairs!!

When you acclimatise, 15 degrees feels like 5 degrees at home.

Busy weekend, so just spotted Patrick Reed winning again. With him playing full time on the DP tour this year it will make it interesting to see if Rory can eclipse him in the Race to Dubai. The last few seasons were a procession for Rory, so it could be an interesting finale this year.

He did well, such a weak field (only two others from the Top 100) but he still brought it home

Thoughts on the Race to Dubai and who will get the 10 PGA Tour cards? Jordan Smith got the 10th card in 2025 with 2,203 points, Tom McKibbin got the last card with 1,897 in 2024 and Ryo Hisastune won the final card with 1,964 points in 2023 so really players need 2,000-2,200 points at least to be in contention.

Already, Patrick Reed after winning two events and a T2 in the last three weeks has 2,259 points secured and has essentially locked up his PGA Tour card for next year but will look to secure the first card as it comes with the exemptions in Pebble Beach and Genesis like Penge has received this year but also he has a great chance of winning the overall Race to Dubai.

Additionally, Jayden Schaper is a clear 2nd with 1,808 points after winning Mauritius and the Alfred Dunhill which followed a T2 at the Nedbank in the last three weeks of 2025 and was top 5 in Dubai Desert Classic and top 10 in Qatar so he has basically wrapped up his card too.

After that, there is only one other player over 1,000 points so far - Andy Sullivan on 1,022 points who was 2nd in Dubai behind Reed and T8 at the Nedbank which both have elevated points so he has a good chance.

Daniel Hillier is 4th with 878 points and I think a very heavy favourite to get a card after a 2nd place at the Dubai Invitational and has three other top 10's to his name already. After Dan Brown got Laurie Canter's card when he went back to LIV, Hillier ended up being the first player out but I think he'll be on the PGA Tour in 2027.

After that, the only other players in the Top 25 of the Race to Dubai last year without a PGA Tour card this year were Martin Couvra, Angel Ayora and Joakim Lagergren and I definitely could see Ayora winning a card while Couvra also has a decent shot but needs to be more consistent.

Of the returning PGA Tour players, there is Antoine Rozner, Thriston Lawrence, Niklas Norgaard, Paul Waring, Matteo Manassero and Rikuya Hoshino while Jesper Svensson has a conditional PGA Tour card so will be back and forth but overall what a poor 2024 class they proved to be with only Rasmus Hojgaard and Thorbjorn Olesen retaining their full cards. I think it will be hard for some of them after such bad years and so many missed cuts last season but I think Rozner and Lawrence could make it back next year.

After that, players on my radar would be Julien Guerrier who was top 3 in both Dubai events and has another top 10 so is already playing much better than last year, Calum Hill who was runner-up the last two weeks, Shaun Norris who was top 5 in both South African events and has two more coming up, former top amateurs like Wenyi Ding who was runner-up at the Australian PGA and Jakob Skov Olesen was T3 in Qatar last week, Oliver Lindell who has been playing better with two top 10's in the last fortnight, and Eugenio Chacarra who won last year before falling off a bit but already has a top 3 from the Alfred Dunhill.

I know other players like Freddy Schott and Nacho Elvira have gotten wins this season but I don't think they have the consistency to accumulate the points. It also must be said that a player with a PGA Tour card this year may lose it and win it back through the DP World Tour like Alex Noren last year or Thorbjorn Olesen the year before.

My predictions for the 10 PGA Tour cards would be:

    1. Patrick Reed
    2. Jayden Schaper
    3. Daniel Hillier
    4. Angel Ayora
    5. Oliver Lindell
    6. Jacob Skov Olesen
    7. Antoine Rozner
    8. Thriston Lawrence
    9. Wenyi Ding
    10. Andy Sullivan

The likes of Chacarra, Guerrier, Hill, Couvra, Lagergren and Norris to just miss out.

Mark Power is flying in Kenya... hopefully he can get a top 5 finish!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,680 ✭✭✭big_drive

Would be brilliant for him. I presume a top 10 gets him into the next event?

I remember an interview with Paul McGinley a few years ago, he named Mark Power as the best young player coming up in Ireland. His career has kinda stalled since but as we've seen in golf one good week or break along the way can change things. We need to see more young Irish players getting onto the main tour. Power is definitely one with the potential to get there.
