I do feel some sympathy for Maria, as she sounds incredibly stressed. I hope the scammers are caught. But there's probably 2 chances of that happening.

I'll be honest, her demeanour doesn't seem to match up the more she speaks.................theres something off. The causal delivery, the 'crying', the flippancy, I dunno..........either theres some significant personality variance or it's not the full story.

I s'pose in her defence, she is doing us all a public service by going on air and exposing her own vulnerability and stupidity and gullibility.

Bottom line though is greed is the root cause in the vast majority of these cases. If something is too good to be true it invariable is, so take a step back before plunging your life saving in to it, and definitely don't ask the fox guarding the hen house if this is a scam?

She could always write off the €18k to expenditure on a (very overpriced and hard hitting/tough love) personal finance or self-awareness course. Unfortunately she can't claim tax relief back on educations fees paid outside the state, to some wan operating on the Telegram messenger app in Russia!
