Buffalo & Doozerie - The mild musings of two grumpy old men!

I had a car overtake me tonight while another car was coming against us both. Now he made it but not by much. Anyway, after a relative bout of calm for many months, I let out an almighty roar, which he definitely heard but drove on. My blood was up so my speed increased. Low and behold he had been stopped at the next crossroads. I pulled up to the passenger window and asked what was that for.

Alas frightened the poor child in the passenger seat, which I actually just apologised for immediately. He apologised immediately, knew what he had done was wrong. But he had to say it, I didn't see you and there was nowhere to pull in. Now I let it go because the subtleties would be lost and no need to put the child off cycling and cyclists.

But it is irking me, the lies in defence. He admitted fault, he could have left it there, lessons learned. But then he couldn't see me (but overtook with space into the path of the oncoming car, the Lezyne 300 under my saddle, and so on). It was clearly a deflection of guilt, and one he will no doubt inform the child of that it was partially my fault for no Hi Vis (we shall ignore the reflective strips in my jacket and bag as if you didn't see the light, you wouldn't see them).

If the child was not there I would have called him out but hopefully he just will wait in future but I doubt it.
