Pokrovsk is already pretty much gone already, lets be real. Now, barring some miracle breakout operation, the Ukr garrison trapped in Myrnrograd will eventually be lost too. We've all been here before.

But I agree the politics of this will be interesting to follow. Zelensky will probably remove Syrskyi as a kind of sacrificial lamb to placate any unrest and push another commander into the role. Can't see Zaluzhny being brought back from his exile, as the rumours were that he was being perceived as a potential political threat to Zelensky when he was making public requests to mobilize more men for the frontlines. Anyway, the next few weeks will reveal all… :/

Pokrovsk is crucial for road and rail junctions so Ukraine might pull out the stops to try to hold onto at least the transport links. It's also about buying time to fortify , Slovyansk, Kramatorsk and Druzhivka.

When leaders are in power for a long time, they can be difficult to persuade to change their approach, but that certainly applies to Putin more so. It's very hard to change leaders in a war of defence. How would the voting process be protected from bombing? The US didn't have this problem in WW2 and Vietnam as except Hawaii the fighting was an ocean away.

The Armed Forces must learn to fight without infantry, because the infantry will soon end. This was announced today by Ukrainian People's Deputy Maryana Bezuglaya.

According to Ukrainian sources, Alexander Syrskyi, commander-in-chief of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, said at a meeting with Zelensky that by spring there would be no one to fight, let alone hold the front, where it is still possible. Syrsky asks Zelensky to announce a general mobilization and significantly toughen the punishment for desertion.

It is reported that Zelensky proposed to return to this issue in December, when the amount of funding from sponsors becomes clear.

There's a lot of land down south with open fields and villages. We could potentially see the Russians rolling through these areas if Ukraine can't sort it out. What'll happen then if they get close to major cities like Zaporizhia, pavlograd etc.

General Syrski said recently that Russian claims of capturing Pokrovsk are a delusion.

Regarding Kupiansk its thought to be more defensible than Pokrovsk because of the Oskil river going through it, though Russia has a bridge head over it.

The information war is also also a front in this war. Confusing the enemy and demoralising them with propaganda, like when the Luftwaffe dropped leaflets on Britain.

OSINT groups Strategic Aviation and SZ has unveiled a massive launch pad and service center for  kamikaze drones in Tsymbulova, Oryol region — which, despite Ukrianian strikes in the past, is now fully operational. Militarnyi reports.

The facility has at least

- 93 garages and 15 hangars for storing UAVs — facility area of more than 5 km².

-Storage capacity for more than 500 drones; at least 175 already counted inside garages.

- 8 fixed launchers on site and a 2.5 km launch road that enables mass wave llaunches.-And 20 extra garages likely for maintenance and pre-launch prep — a full drone assembly line on Russian soil.

Given the Russian meat waves my guess is that Ukraine's losses are 50% of Russias. 200k kia, 300k wounded???

What the west has done to Ukraine - largely out of cowardice - will go down in history as the worst betrayal: "We can't go to war with Russia because then - we'd be at war with Russia" Sad.

Fair enough. I didn't see the post you quoted as that poster is on my ignore list because … well, you kinda have the explanation right there.

That said, there are plenty of validated reports of the Russians using chemical weapons at various points along the frontline. Haven't seen any for a couple of months, but if that reflects an absence on the ground I'd say it's most likely due to problems with Russian logistics rather than any recent aversion to using them.

In the interests of balance, probably also worth pointing out that the Russians have been suffering way above average cases of "gas gangrene" almost since the beginning of this invasion. But that's because they mostly can't be bothered to evacuate their wounded from the frontline, not because the Ukranians are deliberately targetting their medics and hospitals.
