    Where did you read that.

I'm interested in subscribing but would only do it if it's going to survive for a year or so

You’ve no basis for claiming Nash or Kilgallen are faster than O’Brien.

O’Brien has proper sprint athlete speed from his underage days - he won Leinster titles in the 110m hurdles in school. His record time in the 110m hurdles is 13.7 seconds - the Irish record is 13.3 seconds. He competed nationally as a sprinter in underage athletics. He’s an exceptionally fast player by any metric.

Nash faster than TOB is proper crazytown level stuff. How could anyone possibly believe that?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,856 ✭✭✭snotboogie

Not sure if you got that from world athletics but it’s incorrect. The Tailteann games had 100m at 33in hurdles not 110m at 42in, which is what Irish records are recorded at. 13.73 over 100m is definitely impressive, he finished second that year, but it’s not the national senior athlete level that 13.73 over 110m would be.

Good to see Tommy O Brien has time to post on Boards on the morning of the match to set the record staight...

    Jokes. Good knowledge.

Easy, maybe it's based on an observational opinion by the poster from watching actual rugby matches, rather than looking up schoolboy times over hurdles from years back !?

Never mind that the athletes physiology will have changed radically from when they ran those times anyways...

The poster stated their post as a speculative opinion, clue here there was a 'maybe' precluding his opinion, but you label it 'crazy town ' cos you are who exactly!?

Who makes you the arbiter of whose opinion is crazy?? Do you have experience in this realm perhaps!?

This is a rugby opinion board, so it's open to opinion afaik.

Afaik, Nash & Kilgallen could well be as fast or faster , or even slower than TOB, but if I did offer my opinion I wouldn't expect you to be acting as the arbiter of crazy.

    Have a nice day !! :)

Don't see anyone volunteering to open a match thread so here goes:

TOB is clearly quicker than the current wingers in Lowe and Hansen imo, but I’m not sure he has the elite top-end back 3 pace of a Will Jordan, say.

With regards comparisons to Kilgallen and Nash, tbh, I think there’s every chance Kilgallen is quicker; especially from a standing start or that initial burst of acceleration.

Nash would be more marginal but it’s certainly not outlandish to suggest he might be as quick as TOB, say.

Out of the 3, I’d be picking Kilgallen every day, fwiw.

Looking forward to see TOB 2nite tho!

Nash is apparently the only one who could keep up with Earls fwiw

Fastest player on the pitch is going to be Leroy Carter anyway.

Jeez Ireland are in trouble if this is the bench they are bringing on

Look at England today who could hold back 6 lions for impact

We haven't fired a shot in the second half here.

IIRC our lineout was pretty decent in the Six Nations after a poor start to the tournament. It's that first game that seems to catch us out no matter what. But against New Zealand that problem is magnified. They've been ruthless in taking away a great attacking platform. Lots of questions for the coaches to answer.

Positives to take from that match. Baird looked great, was a menace in the lineout and showed up across the pitch. Doris made an impact when he came on. McCloskey was brilliant, absolutely has to be the starting 12 going forward. Ryan had a good game too, much better showing than on the Lions.

With a bit of luck Robertson will look to add Goodman to his ticket to replace the outgoing Jason Holland. Four tries to one says it all. The attack kept just breaking down after a few phases.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,539 ✭✭✭✭Clegg

There are certain areas of our game that looked good. Felt we smothered New Zealand for a good 50/55 minutes. Their best attacks came when we were a man down.

But we've declined badly in attack. We can't play multi phase as much anymore as the rules are weighted more in on the defensive side of the ruck these days. Feels like we don't know what we're trying to build towards.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 398 ✭✭Bart97

Ireland held back 3 lions (4 if you want to count Doris who would have been a lion bar injury).

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 398 ✭✭Bart97

The other issue is the breakdown…it felt like we could never get a sniff of their ball but our breakdown was a free for all.

No joke, I hope Harry keeps playing well. Neither of these 2 tens are at the level to compete for a WC.

I suppose the one overwhelming positive was Ryan Baird's performance. I think he's played well for Ireland in flashes and especially off the bench. But this was a career establishing performance at test level. Did a lot of good work defensively and especially as a counter jumper at the lineout. Some powerful carries when he had the chance also. Think he has claimed that blindside jersey at least in the short term. He's still just 26 so has plenty of years ahead of him as well.

Him and McCloskey were the positives from tonight. Baird is a very useful player when he's in this sort of form. Great defensive lineout player just like POM but more dynamic in the carry. His greatest appeal is the ability to play lock which also frees up our options on the bench.

Aye, but I'd add McCloskey and O'Brien to that.

I also thought Osborne was having a really good game, but his drop (after to be fair picking a terrific line) was arguably a turning point moment in the match.

It was a frustrating game. The Red card was IMO an embarrassing decision, it felt like a few decisions went against us, but I suppose by the end the result was fair enough.
