(Edited) does anyone know where stocks a good stock of lever actions in 223 or 308?

seems that allot of the Irish websites haven’t got them up at present but on my local range I do see lever actions so they are about somewhere. You can get mag fed Henry long rangers in 223 and 308 the same in a browning blr from what I see online.

does anyone have any experience importing one?

I don't think I've ever seen a lever action 223 or 308 on the shelf here.

Both bullets mean that you can't have them in a tube fed gun, it'd need to be a box magazine like the Henry Long Ranger or similar.

Most lever actions here are rimfire or 357/38 restricted guns.

Never forget, the end goal is zero firearms of any type.

S.I. No. 21/2008 - Firearms (Restricted Firearms and Ammunition) Order 2008 - Firearm types restricted

Criminal Justice (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 2009 - Firearms banned & grandfathered

S.I. No. 420/2019 - Magazine ban, ammo storage & transport restricted

I could be mistaken, but was there not a .270 level action for sale on here a few years back. Browning I think, with a wooden stock.

Certainly possible, odd stuff does pop up now and again and a 270 lever action would definitely be that.

Fight Lite https://fightlite.com/rifles/herring-lever-action Does one in 223 and 300 blackout, but they are,or would be close onto 2k worth of rifle by the time you got it her.Even if they export them from the US

Best bet would be a Browning BLR in 308 if you can find one,or the Henry line. They are kind of exotic here in Ireland, so you might be looking at importing one anyway. There is one for sale on Egun at the moment. One in 308 [at a 400 euro bid with 4 days to go] https://www.egun.de/market/item.php?id=20102747

From the sound of all that now importing one would be a costly option to go with, I’d have thought they are more common here than that.

Importing from the Eu can vary in price. Germany like in the above example would proably run you 150 in courier fees,as it has to be shipped in two seperate packages, and about , Federal state depending another 50 euros, for paperwork. The French just chuck it in their mail and charge registerd tracking so about maybe 15 quid each for the two seperate parcels. The Italians make a meal of it and IMHO are grifting with this, and have to provide a police escort to the aircraft to ensure the parcel is loaded and leaves Italy, about 500 quid.So careful where you go shopping for firearms in the EU.

Would absolutely love a .45-70 too and often find myself wondering how I would present an argument to the Gardaí for one. Maybe if you had a sound chief super and said that you're hunting mostly thick plantation where the slower larger bullet doesn't deflect as much on leaves and twigs and so is more suitable than a smaller higher velocity cartridge. Also could make the case that it is of less muzzle energy and has a shorter range (and hence less "dangerous") than many unrestricted cartridges such as the .300 Win Mag and 7mm Rem Mag.

Remember here in Gardathink "Bigger bullet=More dangerous!" Lets not get confusing with things like velocity or the like. We all know the guy here in Ireland who got a 44 magnum, because his chief wouldn't license a 45 ACP or a 357 magnum as they were "bigger numbers"[True story!]

So it will be fun explaining that 45 /70 is an American designition of an army caliber of a 45 Black powder rifle round, introduced in 1870,and has nothing to do with its size or power.

Just on that do you know which gun shops here are fairly helpful with importing rifles such as this?

waiting for info back of one that is checking but 2 others I called said they couldn’t get and Henry rifles presently.

long ranger express is looking suitable presently.

also just on that auction you mentioned, is there a specific way of going about that with the license here, seems like it would be very difficult to bid on a gun and then try get a license for it afterwards? @Grizzly 45

No ,what you do is bid and win[?] on the gun or buy it outright if it has "Sofort Kauf"[Buy immediately].Then get in contact with the seller/dealer and arrange it to be sent to a dealer that does exports [Some folks just dont want the hassle of shipping guns within the EU or outside, and let a dealer handle it]. Pay the seller, and they will ship it to the dealer who will do the paperwork and storage. Companies like Waffen Bock , Waffen Verwertung do international and EU sales on a daily basis,so its no biggie for them.

It sits there until you provide the import cert, which means you get the lic here. When you send them a copy or original depending on which Federal state you are working with, they then apply for the export permit and to whatever costly courier company you want to use to ship to Ireland.[I would suggest Waffen Taxi, they are,or were the cheapest option to ship Two packages to Ireland].

The Germans arent too big into storage fees either, unlike here,as they have a higher turnover and volume of guns coming and going. So your order sitting on the shelf isnt eating any hay on them. They know what bolshie beauracrats can be like.So dont be too worried about storage costs .

And not use Ryanair or any of the cheapo airlines either. They as a rule won't accept firearms in checked baggage.
