News of a sort from MyHeritage. They are transitioning to a more extensive autosomal DNA analysis that will provide more accurate results. The ‘old’ test sampled about 700,000 base pairs on the genome., whereas the new test is Whole Genome Sequencing (WGS) and samples about 3 billion base pairs.

Existing kit results i.e those processed with the older technology will NOT be reprocessed with WGS. If you have an unused kit it will work with the new WGS process. If you order a new test, you will be able to switch between the WGS results and your current results.

HOWEVER currently you cannot choose which test for your sample. Until END 2025 some samples are being processed using the old technology and others with the new WGS.

In short, MyHeritage have rushed to the market to be the first to launch a better test BUT customers have no guarantee that they will be getting that test process until at least end-2025.

Personally, I’d wait until Spring 2026 before processing a test with them.

I've ordered a test from them but will not be sending it back until the new year. They're currently selling at €45 including shipping.

Should be interesting to see what innovation this brings.
