Thats the complete opposite of what the article and the RTE statement says.

I am sick of them. Joined at the news by Brian Jennings… and guess what?

Indeed It seems that RTÉ agreed to Oct 10, but he back out. He'd plenty of time to explore other avenues.

On the bright side if they can get rid of Ray…. they might be able to get rid of Baz… but "how low can they go?"

    ______

In the end they were just greedy, they all knew one another and knew what to expect more money for no return, it was a secure cash flow, but in fairness they looked for what they wanted and fair dues to them for that, and wouldn't you be doing the same!

Just one more thing .... when did they return that car

All the so called Rte 'talent' are pretty poor . I know people on local radios that would wipe their eyes but wouldn't get an opportunity with Rte nepotism .

Can feck off with getting paid 50k - he hasn't come in to work!

If they pay him for rest of his contract it either means they pushed him out or else RTÉ have no spine. If he walked (which seems to be what happened) then why should he get paid remainder of his contract?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 2,606 ✭✭✭Dublin Calling

They probably decided that paying him was cheaper than another WRC case, which they may have anyway.

So Ray is now going to claim he was an employee at RTÉ? I don't think that would work.

Why not. You cannot have contracts continuing year after year. Under law after 4 years the job is deemed permanent, unless it was a fixed term contract for a specified fixed length task.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,591 ✭✭✭RoTelly

Well then RTÉ are in much more trouble than they think.

There were either 2 contracts of 5 years, with the initial few months in 2014 as a separate contract. Or he had a 5 year contract, followed by a number of 2 and 3 year contracts.

Rules were really made for lower paid workers not contracts worth 240K, but you could be right, but you think that RTÉ might have thought about that when they signed his last contract.

Look I'd take the 50K, and I really think Ray deservers that 50K, I can see him over on Virgin Radio in the New Year. Big things to come don't you know.

On Track with Ray and new podcast where he Chats to celebrities about their run, when they had their first run, and could this be their last run, sponsored by O'Neills.

I liked Ray, even with his buttons difficulties. The director of audio or whatever the current title is has not come out well from this. Claiming the audience wants music and not talk, so to Ray had to go is ridiculous. Ray is a DJ first and foremost, all they had do change the format to more music.

sounds like Ray was offered an RTE Gold slot for less money, I assume rick o'shea's, but he declined.

There is no one in Ireland that deserves more than 50k-100k a year for presenting an hour or two of radio a day - especially when RTE is reliant on taxpayer money (either directly or bailouts from the government). Thats a very decent wage for doing very little work
None of them are "stars" outside of the RTE stable

Programme production crew who do the real work are payed a fraction of these so called stars wages

In fairness, I doubt what he earned would be Ray's top priority. He spends a lot more time and money supporting things which are important to him than his other ex Radio 1 colleagues who are now promoting gambling and shilling London pubs every chance they get.

I think it might be more than that. Darcy probably didn't score well in RTE's own internal research - listener panels and the like. If these things can be believed.

The more music thing may or not be the case but it does free up production bodies to work on the extended Callan show or whatever.

I loved Ray also he was well worth the money he was paid, I would have also excepted the kind of pay he was. There are just too many jealous types on boards. Bring people down and all.

But in all seriousness no matter your view of Mr. D'Arcy a going away present of €50k is really unnecessary for the beleaguered public service broadcaster.

I wouldn't believe a word from any research that RTÉ has ever carried out.

Also TBH to me it sounds like Louise Duffy will be presenting a much more talk driven show than what she is currently presenting. The roundy birthdays will be dropped.

In theory Ray has earned enough to dedicate the rest of his life to his own interests. The only issue is he still has a young family to support. They will want more in life than soup, porridge, running and a VW golf.

If he is well worth the money he's been paid then I'm sure he'll have other broadcasters willing to take him on on a similar salary?

People across all professions get paid a rate which matches up with industry standard and what is needed to get them to stay with your company, I don't think that applies to RTE, Tubridy hasn't been weighed down with offers of 500k per annum since he left RTE and the same would apply for almost everyone in RTE.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,591 ✭✭✭RoTelly

Look they all are being offered millions, its the nature of the market, your just jealous of these people, typical boards.

You'd miss the Tubridy Fan Boys, D'Arcy just doesn't seem to have the same effect… I wonder why?

After the announcement was made, she categorically stated numerous times on her show that it would be music driven show, not talk driven. Reading between the lines she didn't seem too happy at how it was phrased.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,682 ✭✭✭Jack Daw

Then where is Ray off to now , seeing as he's been offered millions?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,591 ✭✭✭RoTelly

I am being sarcastic and also taking over the role of the many posters that defended Tubridy to the hilt who have all gone very quite of late.

Perhaps she'll have more live music and some guess, I'd just been think how very rarely the Ronan Collins show had a live music guest but then Today would have someone in at time. But again this really shows you that RTÉ seem to have been caught of guard.

The same can be said for sport. I will be changing station at 6:30 or whenever the new daily sports show starts.

I have read that 2FM already has sports show around the same time slot, but management did not know it existed!
