As another poster asked earlier, would you see a woman simply walking wearing hijab near an anti immigration protest to be "provocative". Would you say she was "shoving it in people's faces" and deserved what she got if she was arrested for it? Something tells me you wouldn't.

The police clearly stated on multiple occasions that simply wearing the necklace is provocative. That's unacceptable. How can you claim that these marches aren't anti semitic yet also that acknowledge that a person seen to be wearing a star of David by the protesters is likely to be subjected to physical violence? That's a pretty clear example of anti semitism.

Could this be any more depraved? Israel has a lot of questions to answer.

The Guardian report referenced is further below. Warning - it is very unpleasant.

Haaretz: At least 135 mutilated bodies returned by Israel as part of the cease-fire came from the Sde Teiman detention facility, notorious following reports of its harsh conditions and abuse of detainees, The Guardian reported, citing Palestinian health officials who said each body bag contained a document indicating where the remains came from.

I posted earlier about the members of the Israeli govt. Ben-Gvir and Smotrich are in their element.

I find it astonishing that anyone supports these particularly odious people and Israel.

"Some far-right ministers pushed Netanyahu for more extreme action in Gaza on Sunday.

Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich tweeted 'War!' while National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir urged the prime minister to resume full-scale fighting in Gaza with maximum force.

Minister Orit Strock claimed Hamas's attack 'is not a violation of the agreement, not even a significant one. It is a declaration, in action and in the clearest terms, that no agreement exists.'

But beyond Netanyahu's public commitment to advancing the Trump plan, Israel had additional reasons to avoid further escalation"

Some more detail on the peace plan.

US definitely has Israel on a very short leash.

    • The U.S. plans to soon submit a draft resolution to the UN Security Council to appoint the international force for Gaza and define its mandate, several sources told Haaretz. The proposal is being pushed by France, the U.K., and Arab countries. Earlier on Monday, French Foreign Minister Barrot said the EU's mission in Gaza is to help deploy a new Palestinian police force.
    • Palestinian-American businessman Bishara Bahbah, who helped mediate between Hamas and the U.S., told Al Jazeera that the Trump administration will not allow Netanyahu and his government to sabotage the cease-fire.

Given their antics in Tel-Aviv, I can't see how the Council nor the police can let them go to the match.

Unless they implement measures from decades ago for notorious British football thugs. And the Maccabi fans won't like that very much at all. Strip searched, caged and held in the ground for a few hours before and after. Bit like an Israeli prison I'd imagine.

This post conveniently ignored by the pro Israelis here.

Some posters on here keep talking like Israel can do nothing wrong, always deflecting everything back to Hamas. Israel just want to live in peace etc etc.

But even if you accepted that argument, their behaviour in the West Bank tells you everything you need to know.

That narrative completely collapses the moment you look at what’s happening there. Literally stealing homes and land from people, backed by their own government. Have any of you even tried to imagine what that’s like?

It maybe should make you question what type of people are running that country, what type of people are supporting this behaviour and why the most moral army in the world enable stealing and pillage on a grand scale.

the rubbish spouted here daily by some people about Palestinians, the lack of respect, the lack of humanity. Refusing to believe Israel can do wrong, Hamas cannot be trusted but Israel can… while they are behaving like this for all the world to see.

I’ve got no issue calling Hamas what they are. Terrorists. But as I’ve said before, there are two sides of terror here and this thread would be a lot better if some people took off their blinkers and accepted that.

    Calm down there.

Simply wearing/carrying clothing - scarfs, flags, signs, or even being virtually naked isn't a problem. Ok, maybe Swastika signs or similar would be out of order.

A Star of David, a hijab, a Christian cross or whatever would not be enough for any protester to be arrested. Not following directions four times is certainly asking for trouble though. Don't forget, there is a responsibility to protect everyone. Even from themselves.

Back in the day, if I was wearing my team's scarf and I popped into the away end full of Chelsea fans, I would hope to God a copper would persuade me that that was a foolish move and I was at serious risk of "going home in a f*****g ambulance"

Glad to say Chelsea fans are impeccable nowadays but I'd say their was fans of my own team that has zero principles and morals either.

Perhaps there were antisemites in the protest who wouldn't think twice about assaulting a person wearing a Star of David. If they did, the full force of the law must prevail. Wouldn't help the assaulted Jew who could end up in ICU or worse.

I wasnt there but if the individual was behaving, then absolutely agree with you - simply wearing a religious symbol is no reason to be arrested. But as others report, they approached the "other side" four times and were told four time to go back -culminating in police action.

For the record, I would absolutely condemn antisemitism in any and all circumstances. Unfortunately, by using that word when it does not apply, particularly by Israel but also in this thread, it has unfortunately been thoroughly devalued.

I didn’t check either! It’s worth posting a few times. Thank goodness for The Guardian.

I've been here a long time.

Some will never lose the blinkers no matter what corroborated evidence is put before them.

There are entrenched Holocaust deniers out there that even with insurmountable evidence, they still deny 6 million Jews were slaughtered 80 years ago.

It is what it is. But I still call those posts out - simply because there are some who read this thread but don't engage. If my posts inform others and assist them in making an informed decision then that's a good thing.

It is tiresome to wade through the already debunked nonsense for the umpteenth time but if I said nothing at all, I'd feel a guilt of not at least trying to speak up for those who can't speak for themselves.

I must have been mid post when yours went up.

But you're right - it's a harrowing report and people should read it to understand how the Israelis operate.

And before anyone lambastes me, the way Hamas has treated hostages - dead or alive - is despicable too and is to be equally called out.

Powerful - in a depressing way.

The settlers are out of control. And they are being egged on by Gvir and Smotrich.

9th circle of Hell for the lot of 'em.

The independant verified reports suggest that approx 14 people Israelis died at the hands of the IDF.

If you have other numbers, please do share them.

Seems the Maccabi fans are the racists….

"The Fare network, which reports incidents of discrimination to UEFA from national team and European competition matches, said it was "reluctant to question" the decision to bar Maccabi fans and added that Maccabi fans were "the biggest perpetrators of racism in Israeli football".

It is understood Fare has made multiple reports of discriminatory behaviour by Maccabi fans inside stadia within the last 10 years."

Israeli Restaurant Chain Shuts Down All Washington, D.C. Branches Amid Boycott Pressure

Haaretz reported that an Israeli restaurant chain has closed all its locations in the U.S. capital following mounting boycott campaigns. The chain, known as “Shouk,” was established nearly a decade ago and specialized in dishes such as falafel and hummus.

According to the report, activists had long accused the company of cultural appropriation of Palestinian cuisine and of complicity with Israel’s apartheid policies, claiming that some of its ingredients were sourced from Israeli settlements. The growing public backlash ultimately led to the decision to cease operations in Washington, D.C.

Further below is a link to a translation of the full piece called "The Black Time". It's a very very long piece. Harrowing, graphic, detailed and it certainly illustrates the ferocity and depravity of Hamas. But it equally illustrates the Hannibal Directive implementations on the day - there were many. Compelling reading if you want to know at least some of what happened. It's tragic and I genuinely feel sorrow for the IDF and Israeli citizens caught up in the heinous act.

By the way, to be clear, I don't enjoy calling out Israel for killing its own. Those people were betrayed by a murderous regime of Govt and military commanders. They were innocent and did not deserve to die by any hand, but especially their own people.

Note - the original piece was published in Hebrew by Yedioth Ahronoth. They typically provide English versions but not in this case. When you read it, it becomes apparent (to me) why they didn't translate it. The English translation is provided by others.

The preamble itself is lengthy enough - but here is more detail on the event you mention (14 known Israelis killed):

Porat told Israeli media that the Palestinians had treated them “humanely” but that the Israeli army ended a standoff with the fighters by deliberately tank shelling the whole house, even though captives were still present.

She later elaborated that the casualties of the Israeli attack included 12-year-old Israeli captive Liel Hatsroni. Hatstroni’s photo was later used in propaganda by Israeli officials, wrongly claiming she had been burned alive by Hamas – “because she’s Jewish,” former prime minister Naftali Bennett lied.

    image.png

Vehicles stacked up near the southern Israeli town of Netivot, near Gaza, in November. They were destroyed soon after Palestinian fighters began taking captives on 7 October. A new investigation by Israeli journalists has concluded that 70 such vehicles were blown up by Israeli fire.

Many of these vehicles contained Israeli captives.

The journalists wrote that “it is not clear at this stage how many of the captives were killed due to the operation of this order” to the air force that they should prevent return to Gaza at all costs.

“At least in some of the cases, everyone in the vehicle was killed,” the journalists explain.

There are no depths that Israel won't descent to. The most murderous race since the Nazis for sure. Just pure hate. What a disgusting way to treat people who have not even had the opportunity to appear in court and plead. Savage beatings, starvation and murder of innocent people. Every bit as bad as the Nazis.

The Middle East's only Democracy …………. my arse.

interesting report - stand out piece was Maccabi itself calling out its own racist fans. As they should of course - but indicative of how wild a small minority of the fans actually are. Shades of British hooliganism at the end of the last century.

Israelis are intensely arrogant, the chosen people, and all that trash.

I am certain the zionist lobby is trying to get people sacked over that idiot wearing his star of david like the gestapo wore the swastika.

    Spain diez puntos

Spain is preparing today for a general strike called by major labor and student unions to protest what they describe as the "genocide" against Palestinians in the Gaza Strip for two years.

The strike will be accompanied by 200 demonstrations across the country.

Participants are demanding  a complete severance of relations with Israel, drawing on previous international experiences, such as the boycott of the apartheid regime in South Africa.

But as others report, they approached the "other side" four times and were told four time to go back -culminating in police action.

And that's why that person was arrested. Not because of what he was wearing. They were told numerous times to stick to their boundaries and they ignored that. The "provocation" was breaking the line set down by the police.

The poster you're replying to knows this and yet continues to propagate a lie that it was about something else.

For the record, I would absolutely condemn antisemitism in any and all circumstances. Unfortunately, by using that word when it does not apply, particularly by Israel but also in this thread, it has unfortunately been thoroughly devalued.

Devalued time and time again by disingenuous gits who only seek to use it as a form of cheap weapon. And every time they do so they break its true meaning further. Every time someone lies about so called "antisemitism", real antisemites are laughing up their sleeves.

It's a shame that there are people who debate in bad faith to support a corrupt narrative based on lies. But it's been common enough unfortunately. The only riposte is to debunk with corroborated evidence. For some, even that is not enough.

And you're bang on regarding the "antisemitic" call. I feel for Jews who are victims of real antisemitism.

I don't recall who said it - perhaps a Holocaust survivor?

"An antisemite used to be someone who hated Jews. Now it's someone whom the Jews hate".

It's a shame that there are people who debate in bad faith to support a corrupt narrative based on lies.

When you support a nation like Israel you absolutely have to engage in corrupt narratives and lies because that's all you'll have. Objectively looking at Israel's behaviour in the last couple of years, ALONE, would lead any normal person to be appalled by what they've seen, at every given juncture.

"An antisemite used to be someone who hated Jews. Now it's someone whom the Jews hate".

It's a phrase coined by Dr. Hajo Meyer. Yes he survived the holocaust and there's a lot of truth in his observation, as there was in a lot of his observations. Not that anyone who blithely uses "antisemitism" as a cheap slur will give a shit about either him or his assertions. They aren't interested in that, nor are they really interested in Jews or their welfare, in general, either.

All they are after is one up on the "other side", whoever that may be.

It's as redundant and childish as that.
