Coughlan was out walking and doing interviews post game - hopefully he was just suffering from cramp

I was waiting for this game to see if McMillan was really transforming Munster and he clearly has. With all respect to the three games before Munster should be beating scarlets, Cardiff and Edinburgh. I know last season that wasn't happening so there was already clear improvement but really it was only what you would be expecting from the squad.

Beating a proper Leinster selection is a statement win.

Agreed, even the team / bench selection was so considered to provide such impact.

I wonder will Coombes be drafted in to the Ireland squad for Gleeson. Certainly has the credentials. Interesting to see will Farrell go with Crowley. Its a no brainer but strong minded coaches hate being told what to do!! It's a lot more 50 50 than people think purely because Farrell won't want to be wrong. Hopefully he has the strength of character to do the right thing!!

I don't know, I think those teams are better than you think. I'd put money on Edinburg to beat this Leinster team.

Like if it wasn't for scrum penalties, giving Leinster field position, I saw nothing that would trouble Edinburgh...

Munster weren't in great shape last year and still finished above those three in the table. Welsh rugby problems have been well documented.

I think Munster have a better squad than those three.

On that logic I would expect Munster to beat them

Leinster finished top and named a strong team. That's what I meant that it was a statement win in a way winning the others isn't

Updated this as was very tired when posted and made a few obvious errors:

    Phenomenal win this weekend.

Looking ahead to next weekend against Connacht,

Will be without Beirne, Crowley, Casey and Ahern as they will be with the Irish squad.

Fresh injuries to Gleeson, Smith, D Barron and Edogbo.

Previously ruled out: Bartley, Kendellen and Nash.

23 could be something like in bold below:

    Milne, Loughman, J Wycherley, Donnelly
    ?Scannell?, L Barron, Clein
?Jager?, Salanoa, J Ryan, K Ryan, Foxe
    O’Connell, C Ryan
    Kleyn
    Quinn, F Wycherley
    ?Hodnett?, O’Donoghue
    Coombes
    Coughlan, Patterson, O’Riordan
    Hanrahan, Butler
    Abrahams, ?Kilgallen?
    Nankivell, Kelly
    O'Brien, Gibbons
    Daly, McCarthy
    ?Haley?, O’Connor.

Someone said Hodnett warmed up with Munster last night in Croke Park so he must be nearly ready to play again

Did wonder why Hodnett was left out of the injury update. If he’s back that’s very welcome news.

Edogbo is heading to Chicago with the Irish squad.

D barron went off hurt at halftime too after we got destroyed in a scrum. And Lee barron hurt his shoulder tackling sheehan in the 2nd half but was able to continue. Sometimes thats adrenaline thou.

Step up Evan O'Connell so. Another very exciting prospect

Yes, I remember thinking at the time could we be down a man if we went to uncontested scrums

Went to Croker despite my misgivings I previously posted about in this thread and boy was I glad I did. Just brilliant to watch. Brilliant to silence a home Leinster support. It looked like an evacuation order had been given with 10 mins to go with the volume of Leinster supporters heading for the exits. I would hope that Munster fans would have more staying power if the shoe was on the other foot.

While I was buzzing after the win I agree with some other posters sentiments, not quite that it will be meaningless, but that we'll have a much clearer picture of where we are after the next game or two. Still not sure where this team are at after two very poor performances against Cardiff and Edinburgh followed by an outstanding performance against Leinster.

We went up on the train from Cork and we're very close to staying for the day in Ryan's just beside Houston. Didn't think there was any hope. The exit was gas alright. A lot of grumbling from blue supporters about Leo.

On the meaningless thing, 5 points are huge in any away fixture. Then sometimes a statement win can also galvanise a squad like what happened against SA select in Cork 3 years ago. It might also set wheels in motion in Leinster for good or bad that may yet impact our season in ways we don't know (playoff positions)

    Only time will tell.

Edwin Edogbo suffered a concussion against Leinster. Hopefully he makes a quick recovery.

Absolutely thrilled for Farrell, such a great player for the last 18months.

The squad update calls out Smith, Gleeson, Edogbo and D. Barron. No mention of either Coughlan or PFP which at least is something.

A bit of detail on those injuries for those not on twitter.

Gleeson fractured his elbow at Croke Park on Saturday night and will undergo surgery.

Edogbo failed a HIA at half-time and will enter the return-to-play protocols.

Diarmuid Barron will go for a scan on a neck injury.

Andrew Smith will go for a scan on a hamstring injury and is unavailable this week.

Also Kleyn was called into the SA squad. I'm pretty sure he'll be available this weekend though.

Absolutely thrilled for Farrell. He's one of the most in form players in the country for the past while.

What excuse can Andy give for calling him in now after not calling him in last week. He wasnt brought in to replace Hansen.

Bundee Aki (hip) and Robbie Henshaw (groin) will continue to be assessed and will travel with the squad on Tuesday

So, Beirne had elbow surgery after the Lions Tour and was delayed getting back to preseason, still looked pretty sharp on Saturday night.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,553 ✭✭✭leakyboots

He's a machine, he takes some punishment too considering how often during a match he gets over the ball, even unsuccessful poaches

Andrea Piardi is the ref for Saturday.
