    Hi folks

I'm thinking of getting my cavity walls insulated with polystyrene beads. The house is about 1400 sq ft two storey detached. The walls are two 4" blocks with a cavity and it already has the polystyrene board .. probably 11/2 maybe 2 ". So the gap is probably another 2". The house is about 30 years old.

Q: has anyone here had it done .

Is it any good.....rough cost etc

There's a grant of about e1700 as far as I know.

    Any thoughts /advice

    Thanks.

Hi! It's normally called bonded bead, it's not normally described it as polystyrene bead as the loose polystyrene beads are encased in a resin, making them inert and immobile (there have been issues with loose polystyrene in the past).

I had a 250 square meter detached house done for 4150 total, grant was 1750. I think it's worthwhile as external insulation is far more intrusive and a much bigger job, plus you'd still have the losses associated with the open cavity.

My tip is to get three quotes anyway!

Tkx for reply and for giving me the correct name for the bead.

    I will get three quotes...
