Stockdale interesting at fullback, hope he goes well.
Hume can hopefully get back to his form from a couple of seasons ago.
Reffell, McKee and Flannery will be interesting to watch coming on from the bench.

Reffell has had no luck with injuries. This is his 3rd season with Ulster and tomorrow night will be only his 12th appearance should he get on.

Great to see Baloucoune back and scoring a classic winger’s try. Stewart is some boy at those mauls. He must be one of the best at scoring from them?

    Do I contradict myself?

Brilliant performance all over the park! The forwards were immense.

We were not bullied at all by what must be the beefiest pack in the league.

Good performance and good interview with Hume after. Seems the mood in camp is great. Hope it continues from here now there's a bit of belief.

Bulls were crap though, so many handling areas

That performance, second half in particular was the best I've seen from Ulster in quite some time.

Augustus already looks a cracking bit of business. The pack just fronted up big time. There were some big hits tonight. Murphy was excellent, the back 3 devastating with ball in hand. McCann's workrate was insane. One negative was the injury to Izzy. He played on for a bit so it doesn't look to be a bad one, but it would annoying if he missed the next couple of weeks with the AIs just around the corner.

Fairs fair, this has been an excellent start to the season.

Nod to Sam Crean as well, he looks a decent option.

Why is it that everytime Ulster have a big win the opposition are crap?! Lol

They fell apart in the second half, but in the first half they were ultra physical. To my mind Ulster forced them into that negative state of mind in the second half.

Just been watching the post match interviews...one common theme is emerging from players, pundits and Richie as well and that is the impact of Mark Sexton. Encouraging signs there, also plaudits for Willie Faloon.

Unrelated to tonight's match but worthy of a mention, but I just read that Ethan Graham scored 6 (SIX) tries for Hinch today against UCD!

Watched it on Hinch’s YouTube stream. A couple of very nice try’s, I would guess he’s the quickest lad in the Ulster set up presuming Aaron sexton isn’t involved anymore.

Yeah its a fair pointand in reality youre right some of it will be from ulsters pressure. Moodie had a howler but you can only play what's in front of you.

Stockdale to 15 for Ireland is a viable conversation now too for the AI I think given keenans injury.

Sharks and Lions away next, presumably more boks back for sharks unless they're given some rest now?

it would be great to see Stockdale back, he was excellent yesterday, but, Osbourne was moved to 15 for a reason, I think we can guess why.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,007 ✭✭✭Scythica

Probably, but over reliance on leinster 2nds for Ireland always kills us in the end. Stockdale did better v bulls than Osbourne did against a dire sharks side. It'll be disappointing if he isn't at least in the discussion (assuming he backs it up against a better, stronger sharks side in SA)

This is not how international rugby teams are selected

Stockdale isn’t exactly a novice at international level.

He is a record breaking try scorer.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 555 ✭✭✭darkened_scrum

I know that. I rate Stockdale and he played well against the Bulls, I'd be more than happy to see him back contending for and Ireland spot. Just saying that Farrell isn't going to be looking at it as a contest between the two of them based on one game.

I don't think anyone is saying he is. But with the short lead-time into the Chicago game for the returning Lions etc. there's a decent argument he should consider leaning towards picking on form for some positions outside of that.

Very complimentary reporting on the game and Ulster performance on the Lekker podcast on YouTube, it’s heavily focused on how the SA teams are going in URC but is a decent watch when they meet any of the Irish provinces.

Don't know much about Sam Crean but looks like a strong team otherwise. Put Angus Bell in there and…

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 242 ✭✭Paddy_Mag

Who is this team in white and what have they done with the real ulster

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,413 ✭✭✭Locke_Lamora

Fantastic start, I'll watch the scrums from behind the couch though

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,031 ✭✭✭accensi0n

    Don't think Murphy's coming back.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,413 ✭✭✭Locke_Lamora

Come what may in the second half, there's definitely some fight in us this year.

Major concerns right now, in my opinion, will be our scum and squad depth.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 555 ✭✭✭darkened_scrum

The ball was out there tbf. Ref is being very patient, he doesn't need to tell the SH the ball isn't in the ruck. It was clearly out.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 555 ✭✭✭darkened_scrum

    Scrum could be fatal now.

Without augustus we'll struggle for go forward too. Would have considered putting hopes at 6 and timoney or mccan at 8/7.
