As always, I come here seeking advice from those wiser than I.

    Previous thread and build:

    https://www.boards.ie/discussion/2057906782/new-gaming-build-for-crossover-34u100

    Current PC:

Mobo: MSI B450 TOMAHAWK MAX AMD Socket AM4 B450

    CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D

GFX: XFX Radeon RX 5700 DD 8GB

    PSU: Corsair CP-9020133-UK TX550M 550 W 80+ Gold Power

RAM: Corsair VENGEANCE LPX DDR4 RAM 16GB (2x8GB)

    CASE: Phanteks Eclipse P400A D-RGB

    Monitor: Alienware 34 QD-OLED AW3423DW

5 years old now, and time to upgrade or replace :)

Playing BF6 currently and need more power!

Budget is flexible - open to small upgrade, or full blown re-build.

    Thanks!

I'd say upgrade the gpu rather then a new build. While you are at it maybe see if you can bump the ram (32gb) as part of a the final upgrade for the machine.

What gpu? Maybe something like a 9060XT 16GB but it depends a bit on your budget cause with that monitor you can't really go too high, though if you a lot higher you start to get into the question of if a motherboard swap to one with pci-e 4.0 support would be worthwhile :-/

Upgrade to 2x16GB DDR4-3600 (and sell current kit) -€90-100. CL16 is best but not required.

Upgrade PSU to something like Corsair RM750e - €107

Upgrade cooler if required - Thermalright Phantom Spirit 120 - €34

Upgrade GPU - RX 9060 XT (€405) / RTX 5060 Ti (€464) 16GB would be double your current GPU performance. RX 9070 (€627) would be triple!

    Consider a new mouse/keyboard/headset?

Don't need to change your CPU since you will be GPU-bound in all games.

Unless I'm being dumb and missing something I personally I wouldn't upgrade the psu unless you were getting a gpu that needed more than the 2 pci-e connectors I think you have or you were planning to try to overclock everything to the max.

Your 5700 is a 180W TBP part, a 9060XT 16GB would be a 160W part, a 9070 would be 220W but that's still not pushing it at all (just make sure you have the cables for 2 pci-e 8 pin connectors then). Now the 9070XT is 304W at which point I'd put the psu upgrade on the table but even then you wouldn't have to and it would only be about the noise and peace of mind about how hard you are pushing the psu though it probably still would never hit 550W even in a stress test let alone gaming.

    I'd agree, I run a 5800x3d and 9070xt on a Corsair 550W PSU without issue.

I'm suggesting the PSU upgrade as the TX550 will only have 1-2 years warranty left, while RM750e will have a new 10-year warranty (in addition to future proofing)

Built this last night, was more enjoyable (and easier too) than I had thought. Didn't get a chance to do much other than install windows and run updates, are there any obvious next steps now it's built? Any specific tweaks I should be doing in bios or in windows? Or in the amd app?

Did you install the chipset driver?

I think you are in the wrong thread @dulpit :). But no harm. Just check you've enabled EXPO profile for you RAM and you've got the RAM in Dual Channel mode. It depends on what slots you have the RAM, does just happen. Check you've Resizable BAR enabled. A quick search on Google will have some East Asian fella explaining it to you in no time. You can validate using CPU-Z. 2x64-bit means Dual Channel is enabled (used to just say Dual but that is gone now) and the frequency should be half your target (DDR stands for Double Data Rate to it's techically double the rate if you are in marketing so it what is used)

After that, work on your fan curves in the BIOS. Don't use a OS level application for that. Well, you can use the OS apps for testing curves but once you know what is good for you just bake that into the BIOS and uninstall that app.
