Hi my dad unfortunately has fractured his knee cap and he is in so much pain. He was sent home after x ray with 2 crutches and a knee brace. Our main and only bathroom is upstairs as is his bedroom, we have contacted our public health nurse to get advice and support as right now he can barely move. She is hoping to call out early next week.
He is a very strong minded man and does not like fuss however we believe there is further diagnosis coming so we ( his children ) are trying to figure out what to do. We are in Co cork so looking for recommendations for suppliers in this area. I have looked online for the grants but I know there is a waiting time for that. I have looked at reviews for suppliers but it would be nice to get a personal recommendation. Thank you

Are you any ways handy at DIY? Loads of second hand ones available and relatively easy to fit. With a helper for lifting you could have one installed in a couple of hours (the rails they run on are cumbersome). Just a suggestion and a lot cheaper and faster than new.

Would not agree with the above. There can be many subtleties when it comes to stairlift installations, especially with regards safety and useability.

I’m not anyway handy at all, prefer to leave to the professionals! He fell again this morning on the way to the bathroom, poor man , it’s very distressing

The public health nurse might actually know anecdotally through their rounds of well-regarded suppliers of stairlifts etc. Although they may just refer you to an occupational therapist for the area who you can ask. Also, I think I've previously come across suppliers who rent stairlifts for convolesce cases, but presumably this would be for a common, standard staircase with no bends etc.

Finally, if your dad might be more prone to falls long-term, it may be worth asking the public health nurse about a monitored pendant alarm that he could (reluctantly!) wear on his wrist.
