Well he doesn't deserve the gig.

Seems like HUGE change is on the way for Radio 1.

Was he on today? Or how was it announced?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 722 ✭✭✭bureau2009

Very seldom someone in RTE doesn't have their contract renewed.

And Ray didn't even get to sign off.

Something feels odd that it would be announced the day after his last show. No great loss to the schedule, but doesn't seem like the right way to manage this either by RTE…

Press release made it sound like he was on today, but no. Shay Byrne on today, show graphics and presenter name already changed on the website but not the show name.

So did Shay Byrne read a statement?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 81 ✭✭LLamachara

    RTE just announced it.

Not on the air today. Last show yesterday. He never mentioned it. Ended his show yesterday saying “We are back tomorrow at 3 o clock.”

I didn't think he was much good, stealing a living on that show in fact.

But that is a very harsh way to deal with anyone by the management.

Shay was on Rising Time this morning so I doubt he was planning to get on this afternoon as well - sounds like Darcy refused to go on today

Absolutely hate the smug fecker, but yeah, seems like there was a bust up and he refused to go on today and they got Shay Byrne to cover for him at short notice.

Was he in the middle of contract renewal negotiations? If he was, it looks like he didn't get what he wanted, or anything even close to it 😂✌️

Does he owe anyone rent money?

    All very suss.

When you are gone you are gone. Bye bye Ray. Crappy way to sign off.

New Head of Radio 1 or Director of Audio making an example of one to keep the others in fear, perhaps?

Two women running the place now showing us how big their balls are?

Glad to see another undeserving overpaid talent get the bullet....well done Kevin Bakhurst...slowly but surely weeding them out.

Yeah very strange, assume the contract wasn't renewed.

Dermot Whelan most likely to takeover.

It's 2025, a lot of women have balls these days .

But not Dee Frobes! FFS. A full 7 years and now the women have found their balls.

I was expecting ray to leave Radio 1 in the next year or 2, but this is all extremely sudden.

On a side note, shay byrne filling in is even more hyper active than he is on his rising time

    What a shame. Not.

D'Arcy always had such an overinflated opinion of his talent, his cultural importance and his vitality to RTÉ, as he did about Today FM before them.

Honestly, he is the most mediocre of any featured presenter, on any nationally broadcast station, in all of Ireland.

Wherever he ends up next, I hope its on a station that none of my FM radios can pick up.

another one bites the dust ??? No loss , could not stand him

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,271 ✭✭✭Expunge

I hope he's paid off the houses and put a bit aside for the kids education because he'll not be seeing money like that again.

Shout out to Willy O'Reilly for initiating the whole Darcy on Radio 1 fiasco in the first place.

"e-mail ray" jingles still being used on the show

    He's stolen a living for many a long year….

I'd say Shay Byrne is having great gas in the role today conscious of the breaking news. I only tuned in before 4 but I'm pretty sure I heard him say just after 4 something to the effect of "well at least that button works" in taking the p out of his predecessors penchant for tech gaffes and then one of the quiz questions was "former TV presenters" and he had a scoff at that also and it's uncanny that all the jingles are still the Ray Darcy show. So I'd say all the signs is that he was uncermonously shafted by being informed that his contract want being renewed earlier today and wouldn't go on to do his show today because of it. But I have to say no great loss. I used turn over after Liveline or put on Spotify. Couldn't bear to listen to him.
