This has been floating around for a while. Coogler mentioned it when he was promoting Sinners. Fox can do whatever they want since they own it, not Chris Carter. I think most fans are happy for Carter not to write again. I did listen to Carter on Duchovny's podcast a few months ago and he's aware of the criticism that Scully didn't have agency and so on. Not that he particularly addressed it.

    Anyway, wait and see.

I'm on a rewatch of the original series at the moment.

The X-Files as it was is very different to modern TV - a lot more episodes in a season, interposed with standalone Monster of the Week episodes and an overall mythology.

A reboot could either take the approach of:

    1. Copying the orignal format - probably very expensive
    2. Focus on one overarching plot over a ten episode season (most likely as I would see it), or
    3. Make every episode standalone (Poker Face has done this recently).

Honestly I'd prefer the third option, its really nice to throw on a random episode of the X-Files and be able to ignore continuity etc.

I’m not clear as to whether this is actually reboot or another revival like the late 2010s version. A lot seems to hinge on whether they can get Duchovney and Anderson back, again. I personally think this horse has been flogged enough, mind.

The mythology aspect is overrated. I think most fans of the original think they were marched to the top of the hill on that one only to find Carter was making it up as he went along (as the writer, his call to do it that way) and had no real resolution planned.
