    Budget takes place on Tuesday.

The rumours are no income tax cuts, government bow to hospitality lobbiests and will cut vat.

there will be an income tax cut or a band increase. Kit flying now is only so they row back on it as if “listened to the people”.

We had this exact same thread last night.

Whats the point of writing a well though out comment, when mods will just nuke the thread without notice?

I think the government need to reign in spending so I don't mind no tax cuts this time around. I'm also happy they are not repeating the one off payments to the population of recent years. Last year the government threw away 2 billion in one off payments to the general public. At least with the Children's Hospital you get an end product. What a reckless waste of our money.

What I want to see in return for no personal tax cuts is the government sticking to their budget. Year after year we are seeing billions in extra spending on departments beyond what they are allocated. The warning signs are flashing everywhere. We can't rely on windfall reciepts to keep the show on the road.

I just want to see sensible management of the public finances so we don't end up reliant on the kindness of strangers like in 2010 ever again.

Scrap the Christmas welfare bonus. No hikes to any unemployment assistance. There is over a ten billion surplus this year and their not even indexing the bands to match inflation? A direct contradiction of fg election manifesto, on page 18 if any one is bothered looking for it...

I don't really agree. It's Gone out of control again and honestly, it probably needs another crash and total review of the insanity of our spend, this will not happen without a downturn or crash... they learned nothing from nearly 18 years ago..

This time, let Europe dictate permanent hard line figures on spending etc, that can't be breached...

Can someone explain why the previous thread was deleted

Disgraceful that they look like they are going to go ahead with the insane vat cut for hospitality while refusing to adjust the tax bands at least in line with inflation

Just like every other year, I think it's best to save the indignation until there are facts to delve into. Complaining about rumour or kite flying seems to make no sense at all.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,701 ✭✭✭✭Idbatterim

It's not kite flying when it's from the minister for finance mouth... cut the welfare Christmas bonus and long term unemployed payments, use that towards indexing the bands .. .

It looks like they will be putting up unemployed welfare rates at a time of "full employment". It makes no sense. It's not going to incentivise the tiny percentage of the able-bodied long term unemployed many of whom have zero excuse to be long term on the dole. They are basically upping pay for those who refuse to work.

At the same time they aren't doing anything with the tax bands. I agree with this but it should be equitable. No change in tax bands for workers should mean no increase in unemployment benefit.

We seem to have a habit of doing things arseways. Workers take a hit and the long term unemployed get a raise.

According to all journlaists this is FGs idea and FF Ministers and TDs were not happy about it

Seems MM has bowed down to FG again

This is the same FG who in their manifesto promised a increase it tax bands.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,648 ✭✭✭Fann Linn

The same FG who said they'd abolish USC? I don't know why anyone believes that shower.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,128 ✭✭✭harryharry25

All they do is seem to lie and the people who keep voting for them are either stupid for believing them or they couldn't care less about them lying. I expect itasthe latter

There's serving and former ministers getting multiple pensions how much money will be spent on the three horse race election coming up.

The crooked Children's Hospital construction debacle and the OPW will probably do a repaint of their vans.

Just like South Park the money was there AND IT'S GONE, IT'S ALL GONE!!!

The amount of places I saw with notices saying due to the vat increase we have to increase prices…eh, who pays for vat? Not the establishment! We pay!

Guarantee you, restaurants and pubs, will increase prices at the same time.

Just like that farce of mup.

Don’t include me in that “we”.

Unlike income tax, you have a choice whether to pay VAT or not.

On discressionary spending like restaurants, I choose not to.

This is the obvious problem. They feel they can do this ahd have no consequence, because there have no political competition. There is no one who gives a toss about the worker or economic prudence... as long as this is the case, we're screwed. There is one alternative, you vote sf etc, to see what happens , it would force ffg to change. Best or worst case scenario, make your own mind up, the entire **** comes crashing down and reform is implemented again. Because that is what is needed... older generations are comfortable, clueless to reality for younger people and won't rock the boat. Ffg understandably try scaremonger about sf, but at this point, many younger people could rightlyfully say, screw it, I've nothing left to lose... the next election will be fascinating...

Shows you the power of lobbying, fcuk several million workers. Let's financially assist, an industry that frankly, isn't important...

Don’t kid yourself that the younger generation aren’t well off.

    They’ve never had it better.

Have a look at pubs, restaurants, airlines, drug dealers etc.

    All about priorities.

Are the parents funding this though or their living at home... because the pay their on, given the cost of loving, is very, very low…

couldnt be more wrong - how would you solve the country's problems - tax workers to the hilt and continue to squander the states resources?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,938 ✭✭✭✭Jim_Hodge

Yes, any old excuse to blame immigrants. It's incredible how racism blames everything on everybody else and maintains only immigrants pull from the public purse.

we all know that money is being squandered in this country left, right and centre

why should hard working citizens suffer real term tax rises

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,701 ✭✭✭✭Idbatterim

When the **** hits the fan, I can see there being more anger, than the last collapse. The obscene spending and waste, is relatively worse this time. Government spending has risen 50% in 5 years, an obscene amount. What is there to show for it ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,614 ✭✭✭combat14

not much but we will have the beautiful childens hospital some day and of course state ownership of city west hotel

sure whats billions wasted between friends
