Id imagine two reasons we don't have a left footed senior lcb and that lwb requires a lot of sprinting which would be a much higher risk to shaw getting injured again

That was an enjoyably boring second half, more of that please. Thought the team were far better setup today. Case and Bruno stayed compact and didn't go off reservation at any stage which helped us starve Sunderland through the middle. Amad and Mbeumo are very good together on the right. The left side was offering nothing until Dorgu came on. Dalot simply isn't up to this level anymore. Sesko had a brilliant game, some of his link and hold up.play was quality. Shout out to MDL who bossed the middle of defense all game and showed the lunacy of moving him last week.

    Only 6pts off top….🙃

Lammens kept it safe with no fancy short passing /taking chances which is exactly what is needed to settle things at the back. No doubt things can be improved in time but delighted with his debut. Didn't look fazed by things.

Thought Sesko did very well - a real handful, livewire, always getting involved

Amad looked back to his best. Mount a difference maker.

Bryan didn't have his best day but effort was there.

Cunha will find it tough to break into starting v Liverpool if everyone is fit

Very encouraging debut from Lammens. Hopefully we've now seen the last of Bayindir as well as Onana.

Nothing spectacular, but saved what he should have saved, came for crosses when the other 2 eejits would have been rooted to the line, and bar the communication error with Bruno, he just didn't make mistakes which is something we're not used to.

PS a real pet peeve of mine is commentators unable to pronounce names correctly.

The eejits on Premier Sports today talking about "Senny Lemmens" when it's pronounced "Sen Lomons". And don't even start on Mbeumo.

The tubes today were giving it the "Embwaymo" all day. Although even worse, I was listening to the commentary on the United app a few weeks back and one of the comms team (actual Man U employees) correctly pronounced it "Mboomo" and then quickly corrected himself to Mbermo!

Fair enough there are some tricky names around. But you're a commentator. Do your research. As a wise man once said, it's your job.

if you squint your eyes, and turn your head sideways, and it’s dark out, she kinda looks like Dua Lipa.

Like you surely have a sheet or note pad in front of you with the names of the players. Write out the names phonetically next to some guys name it's not rocket science unless some are just lazy and it's well this is how I pronounce it so tough ****.

I still love to know why the linesman felt confident enough to tell the Ref to award the penalty.

Crisis club with a manager asking to be sacked only 5 points off the league champions, and we have them next.

Liverpool look vulnerable. Pity the game is in Anfield but I can see them being nervy starting off. We can definitely get something out of that game.

What sorcery was it to see a keeper come and claim crosses? Is that definitely allowed?

You could see the defences confidence grow with him claiming balls and just doing his job, there was no panic at the back at all today.

Beating Liverpool at Anfield is the kind of result that Amorim needs to win back the fanbase and ease off the media pressure.

Some very nice positives to take from today. Lammens looked very composed and made a couple of pretty decent saves.

MDL and Yoro have to start every game. It should be the LCB slot up for grabs between Shaw, Heaven and Licha when hes back.

Amad and M'Beumo are so dangerous and going to cause so many problems for opposition teams. Their interplay is only going to get better as time goes on.

Sesko never stopped up top. Delighted he got another goal. I'm so optimistic he's the real deal.

Negatives, the midfield is what it is. We know its going to cause issues. Amorim does need to solve that somehow but they were, dare I say, passable today. Dalot is a huge issue, he was awful. But we know what he is at this point. Dorgu is far superior and I dont understand how anyone can possibly think otherwise.

Pool up next, they arent in great form. Let's hope the team shows up. At least we got a W heading into the International break

I think he needs to put together the sort of run where he takes 21+ points from 10 games to win back the fans. Right now his record is 37 points from 34 games. No single result fixes that. So he may not get those 10 further games.

Was on a flight so didn't see the game, and grabbing a connection now, but we get in trouble if we don't post after a win so I'd just like to congratulate Sesko for grabbing another goal.

The 2 in a row is back on.

I still think he's gone before Christmas unless we go on a run of wins and good performances which is unlikely.

    Iraola's the obvious candidate.

I must say he got his tactics spot on today, nullified Xhaka perfectly.

Amorims tinkered a bit with a 442 OOP and did it again today for the most part and we always look more solid for it, players are closer together, having to do less work but he reverts back to 523 too often and we get overrun in midfield for it. Hopefully he sticks with it again at Liverpool, they’re looking really poor right now, what a place it would be to finally break his 2 in a row duck.

If Mount can stay fit we'll b3 so much better as a team. He thrives in Amorims system and we play better with him in the team than without.

Its great to have Cuhna, Mbeumo & Mount fighting for those roles as 10's. 3 solid players.

Cuhna goal would be nice next game.

Sesko played really good today. His hold up play, flick on's and the poachers goal was great.

I'd my 12 year old son sitting next to me and he plays CB for his club and I told him I'd be fuming if he defended like that. Dalot looks at him twice (the right thing to do) and somehow still manages to lose him and Traore gets 2 or 3 yards on him. Just totally inexcusable. He (Dalot) is a massive liability. Maguire despite being solid in recent times is also an issue and shouldn't be the number 3/4 CB

I can feel the disappointment from some posters that we actually controlled a game for 90 minutes, scored two goals and kept a clean sheet. Are they really fans of Manchester United because I don't think any real fan would be disappointed with seeing progress- Yes against a newly promoted club but still a PL club all the same.

Anyway it reminds me of this infamous sign- Not claiming Amorim will achieve anything like Fergie but my point is you support your club through thick and thin or else can end up looking like an idiot!

Winning against a promoted team isn't progress.

A promoted team that was and still is ahead of us, had only lost one in 6 of their previous games and had previously beat the team that hockeyed us last week?

    That promoted team?

You can't just say it's not progress cause the team was only promoted, context is key. Sunderland had been very solid this season so far and playing like an established PL team.

To basically nullify them and have was was a handy comfortable win against them is definitely progress, considering context.
