Zgemma H7S - Twin Tuner Capability

    Hi all,

This may be a very basic question but would appreciate some help.

I have a Zgemma H7S and i currently have one single satellite cable plugged into Tuner A - i think its a normal LNB type cable.

what do i have to do to get the second tuner capability going - is there a way without running a second wire from the dish as such?

I'm reading about unicables but don't fully understand the process.

Is there a dummies guide to do this some way with adapters or similar?

or is a lot of wiring needed?

    Thanks

To use the second tuner you will either need to run a second cable from your LNB (assuming you have a spare output) or swap out your LNB for a Unicable one (or hybrid unicable & legacy LNB).

With Unicable you would still need to split the cable for the second tuner's input (unless they are internally bridged) but you can do it at the tuner and use a single cable from the dish/LNB to your receiver. You then tell your receiver to use 2 different user band frequencies for Unicable.

just wondering would a satellite switch work? like maybe a switch that works with a normal lnb as opposed to a quattro one? like would a normal satellite switch take one cable and convert it into two? maybe im being too simplisitc

    No it won't.

This isn't exact but will give you the idea.

Basically the SAT signal is split up into four parts and the part you need depends on the channel.

With a QUAD LNB, one of the parts is sent down each of the four cables and the receiver can request the LNB to send the part it needs.

With a Quattro, each of the four cables sends a different part. You can feed it into a multi switch to which you can connect many satellite receivers. Each receiver can then request the part it needs from the multiswitch.

Hopefully the above explains why you can't really split the cables as only one part is ever sent. Potentially you could have two receivers using the same cable but the channel they are viewing would need to be in the same part. They are more likely to conflict with each other.

Unicable aims to address this by providing frequency shifted feeds down a single cable. Each receiver is configured to look in a certain band only and so conflicts are avoided.

So as mentioned in the first reply, you'll need to either run a second cable from your current LNB or switch it to a Unicable LNB.
