I remember her appearing in one of the later colour episodes of Steptoe And Son as a medium.

me too that episode is beyond hilarious, she played I think a character called Madame Fontana….’a seance in a wet rag and bone yard’ was the title of the episode…

I'm not into t-shirts but a few times I saw Manchán wearing a t-shirt in the Centra colours, but with a slight modification. "Centra" became "Cén trá?". I liked it. 😊

That's two icons of British sitcoms gone in the space of a few days. Mickey Pearce and Hyacinth Bucket, sort of representing two different sides of British life, but very much crossing over too. Hyacinth not wishing to associate with her more 'downtrodden' sisters, and brother-in-law, Richard very much being a 'get along with anyone' kinda chap. Mickey Pearce was another Del Boy, but without the street smarts. Rodney and Del Boy eventually getting out of the gutters and finding wealth.

It's a real thrill to point out Routledge to people in To Sir with Love, or other films. Was watching that movie (which is still miles ahead of its time, with stuff you can't say today, despite the honesty) and when she appeared onscreen, I said 'Oh hiya, Mrs Bucket'. Did that while watching the film once, with my mom and brother, and their jaws dropped. We sort of picture actors in one role, especially one that is so well known, then don't expect them to appear in anything else. Apparently, Keeping up Appearances, would have run far longer, but Routledge wanted to pursue other projects. So the show ended on her own terms. I have tremendous respect for that. Better to go out on top than grow stale.

    RIP.

Very sorry to hear about Manchán. His railway show was lovely easy watching, the kind of travel program I enjoy. Just nice for a change to see an Irish person doing it and bringing that perspective as opposed to the umpteenth English toff.

His Brendan O' Connor interview was amazing. The bravery and openness he showed in the face of that illness was astonishing. It's very sad that he didn't get that extra year or two to do the last bit of traveling with his partner he had hoped to. RIP

He was friends with blindboy and when I heard blindboy on his podcast from last week asking people to send good vibes his way, I thought '****, that doesn't sound great'. And I only just started listening to that podcast last night and heard the news an hour later.

I didn't realise Patricia Routledge was 96. She didn't seem especially old in the early 90s when I was a child. Used to watch Keeping Up Appearances with my Dad. You'd nearly forget it was over 30 years ago. RIP Patricia.

My late granny used to love watching Keeping Up Appearances & Hetty Whainthropp Investigates when I was a young kid. It filled her with great laughter & joy when she watched those shows on the BBC. I loved watching them too. And I still watch some episodes of Keeping Up Appearances on the tele to this day. It still fills me with a lot of great laughter when I've grown up with it as an adult. Patricia Routledge was a terrific actress. Her calibre & craft in the world of acting on stage & screen was something special to unfold in our theatres & on our screens. Her talent will never be forgotten within British culture & in worldwide culture as well. RIP Patricia Routledge.

A good innings. She was absolutely fantastic in Keeping Up Appearances when I was a kid.

We spent many nights laughing at Mrs Bucket, such notions, so posh in her own house with the fine china (with the handpainted periwinkles!) and then she'd go round to Onslows where he's in bed or drinking cans.

They were simple clean laughs, good for us kids. RIP Patricia

That'll be his son Jim. He co-wrote a musical stage show with Paul Whitehouse who plays grandad and Uncle Albert in it. It had runs in Belfast in Belfast and Dublin a few months back.

Very sorry to hear about Manchán's death . He was lovely to watch and listen to . Chrainn na hEireann was my first time seeing him and watched everything he did after that . Somebody commented how he was the least annoying Gaelgóir presenter . I'll go as far as saying he made the language accessible and pleasant to more people. He was so bright and informative , and easy to relate to . Loved the rail trip around Europe . We laughed at the episode when he had to swap jocks with other guys in some Eastern European country 😊

He didn't get a chance really that cancer was very progressive but how he faced it was so brave .

He was a person for Ireland it's true , ní bheidh a leithéid arís ann .

    RIP Manchán .

Kimberly Hébert Gregory, US actress who passed away at the age of 52 . Popped up in a lot of tv shows including Better Call Saul. One of the stars of HBO sitcom Vice Principals.

I loved Manchán and was really saddened to hear of his passing. He seemed to have such a gentle, genuine soul, a true free spirit without any of the pretentiousness or judgment that often comes with that. He never seemed to look down on anyone and just radiated openness and kindness. Love his books and always enjoyed listening to him talk about his research on the language, folklore and the land. Its such a huge loss.

Author Jilly Cooper has died at the age of 88. A tv chat show regular and several of her books were adapted for tv, including Rivals last year. She also wrote the screenplay for the 1971 BBC sitcom "Its Awfully Bad For Your Eyes Darling" (early role for Joanna Lumley)

Agree on that, though she was only occasionally in it.

The only main cast member who fell short for me was the actor playing Emmet.

    "

Manchán Magan married his long-time partner Aisling Rogerson in the hospital before his passing at 55 years old.

His wife Aisling spoke at his funeral, which was held in the chapel at his former school in Dublin - Gonzaga College.

She told mourners that “caring for him in these last few weeks, an honour is not the word”.

She spoke about her deep love for the late writer and how proud she was that his career blossomed as his message reached out to others.

"He used the Irish language to take us beyond language and culture," Ms Rogerson added.

His brother Ruán also shared a heartfelt sentiment, saying: “Instead of being gone, Manchán is everywhere”.

    RIP

Seems to have come over here after making the Swedish-Irish co-production the Sleep of Death starring Patrick Magee, Ray McAnally, Niall Toibin and Curd Jurgens. Family friends are credited with working on the film, though they have no memory cos it was 45 years ago.

One of the Swedish productions she worked on was the 1977 swords and sorcery film the Brothers Lionheart, which I remember being shown on RTE in the early 80s as a dubbed four (?) part mini series.

John Woodvine was a very fine character actor. He was also one of those actors whose face I instantly recognized but for a long time never knew their name

I think you're going to have to explain that one!
