We've just had a bathroom renovation done by a local bathroom shop so should we get a cert for the electrical works done? If so is it the shop or the electrician himself who should supply it? Thanks

100% ask for cert , REC only permitted to work in bathroom,

Hold payment until cert is given ,

Thanks I rang the bathroom guy today who said they don't usually issue a cert. I pushed him on it and he said he would ask the electrician, said it involves a bit of hassle having to register the job. I had a look up in the attic and wasn't too impressed with his work which got me thinking he's either not registered or is just shite at his job. It might be all in order and maybe I'm just being too picky

I'm probably just over reacting but I had presumed it would all be nice and neat and safely out of the way

The big heavy white cable is running tight across the middle of the attic floor. Could have easily ran it along the wall out of the way. The open junction box with all the cables running into it seems very exposed to me as it's right beside the attic door.

Doesn't have to be neat, just safe.

I think those other white cables are there from last year when we had a different builder in installing a new immersion and extractor fan. It's all getting a bit messy and confusing up there now!

have you any certs from the last work?
Think you need to get a REC in to do a assessment, and contact safe electric,

You have had restricted works done by a none registered contractor,

Just checked and we have a cert for the previous work. Do you think the newer work done installing the shower is unsafe looking? What do you think they should have done differently?

they have single insulation outside of the switch , they have added a circuit to your board , report this as it’s illegals works , you will be daft to leave it as it is

So I was right to be worried, do you mind just explaining a bit more in detail about those 2 issues please? Just so I have some understanding of what I'm dealing with

jlspark has given you great advice

It’s a regulation that only a rec does electrical work in a bathroom as it’s a restricted area and also applies to your distribution board

A certificate should be provided along with test records

I’m wondering if your shower is wired in 10mm as that’s what’s required from Triton

It’s a nightmare to fit these cables into a pull cord switch

You shouldn’t have taken the cover off your distribution board but seen as you did I notice a few issues

    Be careful

what is the connection going to here( in the below picture )

on a separate note from previous works

It doesn’t look like your new immersion is rcd protected.

The new extraction fan/lights should also be rcd protected

this neutral cable has had some cores removed so it’ll fit in the terminal!!!!!!
    (Car charger)

You would benefit from a distribution board upgrade

Yeah the distribution board looks very messy and it's definitely on the list of things to do. Your right I shouldn't really have removed the cover so I'll leave it alone now. I've sent a message off to safe Ireland this afternoon asking them for advice on what to do next. My wife said the electrician did the work on the board but he had his helper do the work up in the attic so maybe the helper wasn't qualified to do it? I haven't heard back from the main contractor yet since I asked him about the cert.

he’s legally obligated to provide a certificate

It’s a simple process to report

yes . A lot going on in that board , unfortunately this is the normal standard of work these days , quick install and out the door ,

it’s been a regulation for a while now that attic wiring be tidy

I just feel that running such a big cable across the exact area where the attic floor was put down is asking for trouble when I've to walk there for the likes of the Christmas decorations. The gable wall is a metre away and would have been ideal to run it along

probably wants a clampdowns on these rogue shops

Someone had an ikea kitchen fitted and sure the ikea kitchen fitter was doing the electrics , connections and bonding and stuff

Seems to be no oversight by companies involved in a lot of this crack

In fairness the attic wiring is the least of his worries.

Looking at the fuse box you can see the advantages of insisting on the certificate. It details what each REC has done. In this case there are a few RECs that could be called back to improve the quality of the work if the OP insisted on certification on each job

data cable fired into the board with no sleeving

Original board is old those Hager L20s are an ancient breaker

Yeah just thinking back we got the car charger installed about 12 months ago and got no cert. Could I insist on one now?

    You can & you should.

It is harder to get these things after the fact. Harder to prove they were even in your home if you went for the cash job.

I would at least ask & see what happens

you should have gotten a certificate. You can’t claim the grant without one
