Lever action rifles

(Edited) does anyone know where stocks a good stock of lever actions in 223 or 308?

seems that allot of the Irish websites haven’t got them up at present but on my local range I do see lever actions so they are about somewhere. You can get mag fed Henry long rangers in 223 and 308 the same in a browning blr from what I see online.

does anyone have any experience importing one?

I don't think I've ever seen a lever action 223 or 308 on the shelf here.

Both bullets mean that you can't have them in a tube fed gun, it'd need to be a box magazine like the Henry Long Ranger or similar.

Most lever actions here are rimfire or 357/38 restricted guns.

I could be mistaken, but was there not a .270 level action for sale on here a few years back. Browning I think, with a wooden stock.

sorry I edited the post i had seen you can get a blr or Henry long ranger mag fed in those calibers but haven’t seen them here. I have seen Henry long rangers but in different calibers

Certainly possible, odd stuff does pop up now and again and a 270 lever action would definitely be that.

Best bet would be a Browning BLR in 308 if you can find one,or the Henry line.They are kind of exotic here in Ireland, so you might be looking at importing one anyway. From the sound of all that now importing one would be a costly option to go with, I’d have thought they are more common here than that.

Importing from the Eu can vary in price. Germany like in the above example would proably run you 150 in courier fees,as it has to be shipped in two seperate packages,and about , Federal state depending another 50 euros,for paperwork. The French just chuck it in their mail and charge registerd tracking so about maybe 15 quid each for the two seperate parcels.The Italians make a meal of it and IMHO are grifting with this,and have to provide a police escort to the aircraft to ensure the parcel is loaded and leaves Italy,about 500 quid.So careful where you go shopping for firearms in the EU.

On the point of lever actions ,is anyone hunting or running a 45/70 or the like in a lever action here?Am kind of getting a goo for one for boar hunting in Germany and red deer here.

Would absolutely love a .45-70 too and often find myself wondering how I would present an argument to the Gardaí for one. Maybe if you had a sound chief super and said that you're hunting mostly thick plantation where the slower larger bullet doesn't deflect as much on leaves and twigs and so is more suitable than a smaller higher velocity cartridge. Also could make the case that it is of less muzzle energy and has a shorter range (and hence less "dangerous") than many unrestricted cartridges such as the .300 Win Mag and 7mm Rem Mag.

Remember here in Gardathink "Bigger bullet=More dangerous!" Lets not get confusing with things like velocity or the like. We all know the guy here in Ireland who got a 44 magnum,because his chief wouldn't license a 45 ACP or a 357 magnum as they were "bigger numbers"[True story!]

So it will be fun explaining that 45 /70 is an American designition of an army caliber of a 45 Black powder rifle round,introduced in 1870,and has nothing to do with its size or power.
