IMO the Grimsby game on the back of failing to beat fulham and failing the eye test in the second half vs them ruined everything. there was a bad taste in the mount from Fulham and then Grimsby looked like a bunch of players who had no interest in playing for the manager, for club, for the fans - and then Amorim seemed to basically hand in his resignatioin in the post match interview.

It is genuinely difficult to take positives from any match with everything around those two games stinking things up.

Any pre-season positivity or 'benefit of the doubt' was utterly used up and thrown away that week, even for me.

And Brentford will be the same imo. In isolation, a draw in that game is not a bad result. But a draw when we need to build positivity won't be enough, and a loss certainly won't be. There will be no context or excuse accepted by the majority. It would be another point of failure in a long line.

IMO we need to beat Brentford and Sunderland. Winning those two puts us on a good footing going into the Liverpool game where I do think a loss, as long as we don't look like bumbling morons, will be 'accepted' and not instigator of calls for Amorim to be sacked.

If we fail to get 6 points, and then lose to Liverpool, its gonna get noisy.

But we'd probably still have Onana stinking out the place so the fact the Grimsby game finished him off is a big plus.

You always know that United have a terrible performance "in them", like Grimsby.

However they don't really have any excuses ahead of Brentford, they should at least put in a decent performance.

No midweek game. The team is now largely stable, with Ugarte coming in for the suspended Casemiro (an improvement in my view), and Cunha to come back in.

I'd just love us to "click" and give some team an absolute pasting. Been too long since we belted someone 5 or 6 nil.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,903 ✭✭✭keeponhurling

Even if we clicked and got into a 2-0 or 3-0 lead, we'd probably just fall back or even go to sleep.

Even a straightforward convincing 3-0 win would be nice. Looking at the fixtures, West Ham at home in December could be a good opportunity for that. They might have solved their issues and have a new manager by then though. Wolves away in the following game is another opportunity if they haven’t recovered from the mess they’re in.

I'd even take a scrappy 1-0 win now tbh.

I can't even remember the last time we won back to back league games. Putting a run of consecutive wins together is the most important habit this team needs to learn

Slightly related but the lack of mid-week football meant that I watched a bit of the U21s in action last night against Athletic Bilbao. Only got the last half an hour but Obi was an unused sub. There was some speculation online that that might indicate a call up to the senior team but I'm not too sure, I watched him a few weeks ago and he was less than impressive.

Was surprised not to see Leon involved, he might be in danger of falling between two stools.

Jack Fletcher was very good in CM, really drove them on in the final stages to get a late winner.

Agree on Obi he looks uninterested when I watch him.

Anyone see the lad that got attacked, is know for growing his hair out and won't cut it till united win 5 games on the bounce I think it is

Scummy the way he got started on.

5 games alright. might have been possible with a kind run of europa league, league cup and a PL game.

i'd say zero chance this season of 5 games on the bounce.

re the attack, he seems fine at least.

Nothing like a 12.30 kick off to get the weekend ruined nice and early.

at least it’s not a Friday evening kick off.

Maybe unpopular but I love a Friday evening kick off. Get in after work, get the kids to bed and settle down to watch the game.

For travelling fans it's not so good obviously.

will be interesting to see what Amorim does with the front line tomorrow. I assume Cunha will be ready to start, don't know about Mount. Cunha, Mbeumo and Sesko? Or will he do something silly like drop Sesko and play Cunha up top again? Possible if Mount is ready to start. I assume Ugarte in for Casemiro, and Mainoo to ride the bench again - and I don;t think Mainoo is the right partner for Bruno so it has to be Ugarte imo. I'd like to see Mainoo start, but if he didn't move Bruno to start him when Cunha and Mount were out, I can't see any reason to think he would do it with them back - and I doubt even more that he drops bruno to the bench.

I think if Amorim has a fully fit squad, Sesko doesn’t start. He has a big call tomorrow.

Sesko is a striker so why would he start?

Also I'd play Mount instead of Bayindir

Has to be Cuhna, Sesko and Mbeumbo. They haven't had a chance to really get going yet as a front 3.

Think we'll see a lot more from all 3 once they get game time together.

Ive been so impressed with Mbeumo so far. I'll be honest, didn't know what to expect as i hadn't watched a whole lot of him last season.

If Sesko doesn't start, I give up. I'm hoping Lammens starts too.

I think it'll be Cuhna, Sesko and Mbuemo.

Sesko did ok against Chelsea and was only hooked at HT because of the Casemiro red. Mount was also quiet when he came on. Also, will need Sesko to help defend set pieces v Brentford.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,008 ✭✭✭AidoEirE

Harry would have to start against the long throws too id imagine.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 48,937 ✭✭✭✭Mitch Connor

wtf did we spend 80m on him if that were the case. Could have got Jamie Vardy on a free.

    - - - -

I can see Sesko starting tomorrow in large part cause of his height. Will be useful on set pieces - and with Casemiro out we will be without one of our best aerial players - and replacing him with Ugarte who is far from that.

Harry started last week so it would be the same. Apparently Maz wasn't training yesterday so there may be a change there. Amad will be benched as well for one of the returning players.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,903 ✭✭✭keeponhurling

He has to start. And nothing to suggest he won't. He only missed the first couple of games as he was building up his fitness.

We simply cannot pick an out-of-position Cunha or Mount instead of him.

If Maz isn't starting then I assume Amad to RWB. We've no one else. (and it should be him anyway)
