I also had 3 days with "no signal" up until yesterday and today i have the uk channels back working...

    What had happened anyone knows?

Impossible to say, possible loose connection somewhere?

If it occurs again possible LNB fault or receiver fault.

No loose connection whatsoever, i checked both the lnb and the tv ends of the cable.

So you reckon lnb is dying and is acting up? If this is the case is this normal behaviour? I thought a dead device (lnb) would either be dead or working... Not coming back to death :-)

Difficult to troubleshoot someone's install via a forum,

As regards the LNB they can partially fail, I've seen one polarisation fail while the other one works ok. The internals is just a circuit board, maybe a failing joint.

Could be a dodgy cable between LNB and receiver.

Could be that the receiver's power supply is failing, LNB not getting power.

Basically if it's working now it will be difficult to find the fault.

Or some damp / moisture in the LNB joints.

Possible, check the LNB feedhorn plastic cover for any cracks that would allow moisture ingress

    Thank you both!

I dont have a receiver, it goes directly to the tv.

I will visually check the lnb and if it does it again i will need to call someone to check it further as Im not up to it. Or would I be able to replace the lnb myself? Have to youtube it to see if it is possible as I can reach the dish from the bedroom window

Take a note of your signal readings, and observe any changes. It could be possible that even when you have a picture, it is coming from a weak signal.

That would be my thought too, water could be getting in and then drying out over time. I've seen this quite a lot lately with cracks in the LNB cover.

I checked, no cracks at all.

For the last 3 days I could watch all uk channels. The signal was at 82% which I read is considered good.

Today out of the blue all channels are gone and the signal is now at zero

Also no rain whatsoever so it cannot be the case that moisture went in.

Looks like the lnb is faulty then I presume?

LNB would be my first suspect. They are cheap.

I managed to remove it from the dish. I will try to buy a new one and see if im lucky

The old one reads " Sky quad lnb" model J4LS

I only have 1 tv directly connected to the dish. Saw a youtube video saying the i can either use quad or a simple one with 2 outputs. Is that right you reckon?

    Apologies for the many questions...

Did you try connecting the cable to an alternative connection on the LNB?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 439 ✭✭in2dark

Nope.... Didnt think about it :-(

Now i did and zero change. Signal zero

I’ve the same issue. All channels disappear for a few days very couple of months or so and then return for no apparent reason. I was wondering what might be causing it. My dish is on apex of gable wall out of reach of standard double ladder. Will have to borrow a taller ladder or get someone to have a look. Its a right pita when it happens just when I’ve into watching something

It's also possible it could be the receiver's power to the LNB. If you had another box to test it would narrow down the fault.

    Beyond that dodgy cable.

If you are trying another box make sure to use its power supply (plug top) too just in case the power supply is the issue.

Get a cheap meter that goes between the LNB and the cable. At least that will tell you if there is power to it.
